What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access allowed AArcade to be built around the suggestions of the Steam player community.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“AArcade's development is nearly complete and will be coming out of Early Access WITHIN A COUPLE MONTHS. The April 20th release date has been pushed back as we eagerly await news on a VR update to the Source engine.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will have an improved new-user-experience with tutorials and one-click-access to the the best community content. Great effort will be put towards orienting new users to the concept of a 3D desktop so that they may enjoy what AArcade has to offer for many years to come!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“AArcade's 3D desktop features are ready to rock 'n roll. The multiplayer features and the new-user-experience are currently being revamped in preparation for coming out of Steam Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“AArcade will be free. You shouldn't have to pay for a program that just launches your own stuff anyways.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Feedback & suggestions have shaped AArcade's development over the Early Access period. Features such as cooperative building in persistent multiplayer servers now exist due to the community's many requests for it. The Steam community can talk to me directly every Wednesday during a live Twitch stream or through the Steam forums.”

About This Game

Anarcy Arcade is a shortcut launcher, just like your regular desktop. It replaces your 2D wallpaper image with a 3D world, and replaces your 2D shortcut icons with 3D objects.

It transforms our PCs into 3D metaverses that we can explore with our friends while still getting work done. Performance is always put first. It will not lag your games down.

Use AArcade as your everyday desktop, or use it to manage your massive game, movie, or image collection and share with your friends.

This walking simulator is in early beta stage and not even close to be functional. It seems to have lots of potential, but sadly, the only thing I've been able to see of it so far is a golden occasion for game makers to spam players with commercials.

Maybe it's just me, but just trying to launch a local video through VLC has frustrated me enough to want to quit.

• Bugs: Controls are everything but smooth. There are bugs that stuck you for no apparent reason and long loading times even when you want to load a local resources that you had just loaded seconds ago. Plus, it's a little heavy on RAM and some processors for a 3D desktop.
• Gameplay (if we can call it that): The process of setting up a functional shortcut requires that you read ugly menus and go through trial and error, waiting for the data to load at each attempt. —> Then, as soon as you launch a shortcut (if it doesn't freeze) you are exiting Anarchy Arcade and a cmd script show to launch the corresponding exe.
—> In the end, the only type of media that can actually be displayed in Anarchy Arcade, are web pages (game trailers), local pictures, and, theoretically, local videos, thanks to an addon called "Liberto" that actually doesn't do anything at all when you click it. (I tried different short mp4 and avi and none has ever worked in-game.)
• Multiplayer: did you think that you invite friends to watch content or play together? Perish the thought. The only things that other can see in a room are the 3D models that you set up. Your files will not be shared, and local co-op is just a distant dream.
• Design: The interfaces that have no theme or visual coherence at all.

What to expect of Anarchy Arcade: A walking simulator with movable 3D items where you can watch the pictures, game and web content set up on the game cloud. You are supposed to be able to watch video files too, by (aiming, click, aiming, clicking, aim and clicking again) starting a cmd, that will start local files, that you have previously set yourself on an in-game 3D model.

I would like to reccomend this but I just can't. Its a good concept but it has game breaking (and in my case almost GPU breaking bugs).

first off lets start with the settings, the game launches every time in a window mode 600X900 or something no matter what i do in the settings.
secondly sometimes when setting it to fullscreen the game breaks and black screens.
thirdly the game black screen crashed on me, caused the pc to reboot, after rebooting my GPU was diplaying artifacts on screen so i had to reboot again to fix that (im not launching again in fear of the life of my GPU)

on a positive note it is a good concept and offers an interesting way to organise your desktop, its just unfortunate that the bugs make it difficult to use.

I think this game has a lot of potential, but this game, sadly, has a lot of issues that hinder this game, and it just falls short.
Let's go into more detail:

1. There are a lot of bugs. It really gets annoying, and it's quite annoying to deal with.

2. You can't spectate the games, or play local multiplayer. When you play a game ingame, people can't see it, so you can't do things like playing with other people, and spectate games other people are playing. This limits, playing with other people, it makes it a lot worse of an experience.

3. Lack of players. Not many people play this game, and it gets boring, since I think this would otherwise be one of the game's strengths.

4. Lack of features when making servers. There are things such as making moderators, banning users, ect. This means if you make a server, anybody can edit it, which is just horrible.

The idea is one of the greatest I ever heard, but it needs more work, you can't share mp4 or avi or any video files, even if you're playing alone, the sound won't play AT ALL. I would literally use this as a virtual desktop but there's no way to make it compatible with most of my media files. Needs more work. This could be the next facebook and devs will most likely get rich if they ever finish this thing in the RIGHT way.

With the new update I can simply not recommend this. I enjoy playing with friends and ONLY friends, not randoms coming to spy on us and annoy us. Metaverse is just not a good thing to me. I wanted to set up a server with a town where me and friends would each have one house, but that will no longer work.

Re-add friends only hosting and I will change this review. I'm really not happy with this.

Anarchy Arcade is an extremely fun virtual world that allows you to build your desktop shortcuts in the forms of CD Album Covers, Arcade Machines, Monitors, and more. Using a nearly unlimited amount of maps thanks to self-porting methods and the workshop, Anarchy Arcade will never get boring. You can use it to store ANYTHING; Website links, music, YouTube videos, Emulators, and more. Anarchy Arcade has direct links to your Steam library; meaning that you can build an arcade using the games you own on Steam. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities; you're able to play your favorite Steam game from within another game. This is one of the better concepts to rise from the Early Access market. 8/10 because of some bugs that can happen, and because I had alot of issues getting it running properly before beginning to play it. I would highly recommend this "game".

This is not a game. It is a simulated environment for you to share your favorite things that you create yourself, that amused you while browsing the internet, and of course, game and program shortcuts that exist on your computer. If you find building things for points fun, and like sharing that small vanity as I do, then you should take the time to learn how to use this nifty little program. 10/10 Needs more and better support from us.

You have no idea how badly I want to recommend this, but I can't. The concept is great, but the delivery is very poor.
If you've ever tried Playstation Home, then you should know exactly what to expect, except none of it works.
I will definitely be following this title and I love the innovation behind it, but it needs to be refined a lot before it works.

Anarchy arcade is one of the few games that can manage to take a good concept and actually roll with it. Anarchy Arcade is essentially a 3-d desktop giving you the abilty to load up any map, weather it be a default one or a custom one(You can use any map from source games like cs go ect.), and you can then place essentially well ANYTHING. Images, movies, games, youtube videos, websites, i tunes, netflix, old nes and arcade games, and even those videos you prefer not to watch on your regualar browser if you catch my drift. Each thing you place down acts as a shortcut like one would work on your desktop, you just simply click on it and launches the item at hand weather that be a game or video or whatever so long as you have it or its of the internet.

The game allows for you to be droped in an area and to create an arcade of what ever you can imagine, its a briliant idea but not only that it actually works suprisingly well. Your given the ability to place down again ANYTHING, place a picture from google on the wall, make a room full of snes and sega genesis games, fill a room with youtube videos or music, or even just make a room full of entirely props and manequins of charactrs from your favorite games. Props are essentially "acessory" items and can be placed anywhere to add more of a feel to the game such a couch, shelves, plants and ect.

Despite its earliy acess state, and the game being a one man development project, it still manages to get updated constantly with each one ading new things such as the metaverse mode. This is a mode that allows for nemourous people to be in the same map and create stuff at the same time and build an arcade together. The best part about is that if you have the game or item placed then YOU can launch it even if someone else placed it. The game is free and kind of hard to understand at first but its one of those things you have to try before actually judging it, also the game is described well in the description and in the videos. So despite some of the work it may or may not need it still stands out a unique and interesting so i would say to just try it and if you dont like it then so be it, but atleast give it a chance.

it's like having your own fully customizable gaming heaven in the one and only source engine.

pros:
+100% customizable maps
+supports all games on source engine (like tf2 and l4d2)
+has multiplayer
+workshop (duh...)

cons:
-HARDLY ANY SERVERS.
-the tutorial is kinda hard, too.

final score:

8/10 2nd best source mod ever
