I got this game in a bundle, and was unsure whether or not I wanted to keep it. After reading numerous comments and reviews about MKH, I decided to give it a try - and was really happy to get a chance to play through it.

If you enjoy Japanese-themed swordsmanship with challenging technical mechanics, fighting mobs of enemies, and grinding for upgrade systems, then you will really enjoy this game.

The aesthetics are fantastic - the detail in the different character models is very good, and the fighting special effects is well-done. The music and sounds are great, adding a high level of intensity to the brutal, fast-paced gameplay. The cutscenes are short but sweet, and add an anime-like feel to the narrative. Although fairly basic, the story is decent enough to keep you interested in the plot (although the fighting mechanic definitely is the shining gem for this game).

The controls can be challenging to learn - especially if you do not use a controller. The move list and tutorials are helpful, however, the default keybindings make keyboard play unnecessarily difficult. That being said, I completed several playthroughs without a controller (I will be attempting to complete it on the hardest difficulty with a controller, since keyboard play is far too brutal), so it is possible if you have no alternative. The learning curve is moderate to challenging because the later stages (and higher difficulties) really require you to utilize more advanced moves - like countering and parrying. If you cannot do this in the later levels (and/or difficulties), you will not get very far.

Each "level" consists of multiple waves, followed by a boss fight. Every enemy type follows a particular attack pattern that you can memorize and use to your advantage, adjusting your playstyle accordingly. For each kill you make, enemies may drop health or experienc orbs - experience is added to your total pool, which can then be used in the abilities store (you can access this at any time by pressing ESC).

There are a variety of things you can unlock and upgrade - in particular, improving your health and "katana energy" gauge (used to perform moves with your sword) is crucial to survival and chaining more combos. Improving your normal attacks will allow you to do more damage, refill more of your energy bar (hand-to-hand attacks refill your energy), and increase attack range, among a multitude of other things. You can also unlock a deadly counterattack, which is essential for defeating higher-tier enemies, and even bosses. Special attacks can also be unlocked and improved, however, it is entirely possible to complete at least one playhrough without further enhancing these things (it will just make it more difficult).

For achievement hunters, it can be both very fun and very lengthy to unlock every achievement in the game.

Overall, the game is a lot of fun, and technical players will appreciate the depth of the possible fighting controls and combinations. Definitely give this game a try.

Despite it's rather unpolished apearence and.... sort of, lack of story, this game can be rather entertaining to those willing to master it's soemwhat complex combat system. can be a bit frusttrating due to the punishement for the slightest margin of error, but other than that,a rather flashy, well thought and rather well executed hack and slash.

...Oh! and did i mention there's unloackables? there's quite a few. mostly costumes for the mian character, soem with an odd twist in difficultyto unlock, but it's soemthing to look forward to and work for.

If you want upskirts, you can get them for free elsewhere; if you want a hack n' slash, there's hundreds of better games.

Pantsu, and nothing else. Just what you would expect from a doujin by Japan.

The gameplay is dull, the enemy is boring, it tries to pull many beat-em-all action classic like DMC, Onimusha but the poor exection make the game became chore.

The game does tries to like put some innovative design like like kick/fist with sword attack, idealy sound but in reality boring, the 'finishing move' is a nice touch, but again, brilliant idea are screwed by poor execution.

But hey, at least you get pantsu, that's all that matters.

An arena sword figting game with anime schoolgirls and without any real story
which could be described as "mindless fun", except there is no such thing as fun.

The worst part about the game is the sound, since there is only one sound for each action.
Your combos always sound the same, aswell as when you take damage.

Even the rapeculture-esque death moan gets annoying over time, because even on normal difficulty you just die alot, since your guard is unreliable and boss attacks are hard to read.

An immensely tedious button-masher where you sit in an arena and fight waves of the same guy over and over again by stun-locking them until they die.

On top of that, the story is an incredibly cliché anime storyline with little lasting appeal.

Additionally, the keyboard controls are terrible, so unless you're using a controller, the game will require a fair amount of key rebinding untill you find a comfortable setup.

Holy ♥♥♥♥ this game is awful.
Admittedly I didn't play it for very long (I tried my best!) but at this point, even if the game became phenomenal after the first level it still wouldn't be worth it. There's like two combos, three enemy types and the stage was just a big, open arena. Did they even play a character action game before? Or even a hack and slash? The first boss looked cool, but the fact that he was missing roughly 30 frames of animation made the fight seem like rock, paper, scissors instead of a rewarding fight. I honestly can't recommend this game to anyone. Well that's not true: if you're one of those people who buy their friends ♥♥♥♥ty games on purpose, this will definitely get the job done!

Great character action game in the vein of the 3D Ninja Gaidens. Fast-paced moves that flow nicely and end with badass finishers. Stacked together with Just Guard's(a perfect block) tinging sound and a well timed flourish(a counter) to make some hard boss battles look like something straight outta the animes. Dispite some complaints that could be made about enemy variety and closed off circular arenas I found great enjoyment in playing as a Japanese Highschooler cutting up suits.

A short slash'em-up action game that delivers on the girl-with-a-sword thrills it flaunts. Each of the 5 stages is a small circular arena against waves of enemies and capped by a boss, so there is a disappointing amount of repetition within the game's short length. However, the sword action is fast and responsive. The ugrades you gain will challenge you in to finding what slash can cancel in to which kick in order to continue an unbroken chain of attacks. For those of a defensive mind, there are counter and parry timings to master.

Despite some repetition, Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae has good sword action in a small package.

A very shallow game with terrible controlls. It is essentially a Devil May Cry clone, but is nowhere near the same level at that series. If you are looking for something like Devil May Cry... I would still suggest just playing Devil May Cry!

This game is down to personal taste entirely. It does have a lot of positive reviews but as I've seen most are for 'pantsu' and not really anything else. I got the game because I wanted a good ol' button mashing fighter game to chill me out. It does just that and I'm happy with that because it's all I wanted from it.

There isn't really a story to speak of and visually it's quite boring as it's the same arena just a different backdrop. If you want a more indepth fighting game with background and multiple characters...this isn't the game for you. If you just want to hit some things in the face with a sword repeatedly, well then what are you waiting for?!

Panties flying across the screen, some say you can even see monsters and school friends to defeat, but those are just false rumours.

This is a Shinobi/Ninja Gaiden/DmC hack and slash combat arcade game. No real story just combos and killing. It would feel right at home as an import Dreamcast game you got show how cool you are.

What you see is what you get. This is the kind of game where you just know this is for me and it was, but I can't recommend it unless you are really into these kinds of games.
