What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I was actually working on a game with the name Birds and Beasts Fantasy Playbook at the same time. This game is also in the middle of a sneak preview.

Since my setting for Birds and Beasts Fantasy Playbook was so large, it took me a lot of time to work on the script and draw pictures. Also had to tweak a lot of code issues about the game being huge. I was physically and mentally exhausted by these trivial tasks. Initially it was expected that the game would take about 2 years to complete. So far I've been working on it for almost 1.5 years. It feels like there is still a very long way to go before the project is finished. At the same time the quality of the game makes me feel anxious. Every time I add a feature, I feel like I have to add more features to make the whole game quality improve. There are still tons of features that need to be tweaked, the numerical balance of the battles, the striking sensation issues. All these things make me feel physically and mentally exhausted.

I've been thinking about making a smaller, simpler game when Birds and Beasts Fantasy Playbook is done, one that I can finish quickly. Something like The Marriage of Isaac. It could be done in a couple months at the most. Because my painting skills need a lot of practice, and my music arranging skills need a lot of practice to present a better Birds and Beasts Fantasy Playbook.

Knowing that one Friday, I just couldn't handle the frustration and anxiety that Birds and Beasts Illusory Theater Picture gave me. Why not set out to make a small-bodied game right away. To soothe the inner turmoil that game making has caused me.

I named this game "Descending Tones". It's really more of a message to the self. Lowering your expectations of yourself and lowering your goal expectations may make it easier to reach your goals.

With this game, I want to go back to where my gaming dreams started. It was Terraria. 10 years ago, I was working as a java web engineer in a company. I was expatriated to another location for a project. The company's was playing Terraria at the same time, and I started to play along. The pixelated drawing style instantly attracted me. When I was on vacation, on New Year's Day, I played this game day and night. This game attracted me to change my career to become a game designer.

In order to become a game designer, I had to rethink a lot of my programming skills. I read a lot of books about programming and put these skills into my projects. Lots and lots of time was just gobbled up by programming. Then I drew for 2 years to learn painting and 2 years to learn arranging. Also drew time to learn how to write screenplays. Many years later, I still haven't found my creative direction. Then I made "Bird and Beast Illusion Play". Finally I can say I am a game designer.

Let this half-baked game designer go back to the place where his dream started and start a brand new life adventure.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Initially, it will last about 1 year. Then it will move to an official release. It will continue to be updated for years after the official release.”

Developing Xbox controller support.”
