Game Update 21st July 2016

Hello hunters,

It’s status update time!

It’s a birdie!

As we revealed during last week’s Lock&Learn, the new species coming to theHunter are Ptarmigans. Rock Ptarmigan will inhabit Val-des-Bois and Willow Ptarmigan will inhabit Hemmeldal. The two viewers who first guessed the species and subspecies during the livestream have been awarded their em$. Work on the birds is already in the final phase as we iron out some rough edges and polish a few minor things. We hope to be able to release these wonderful sounding critters on their respective habitats very soon. Until then, enjoy this sneak peek on these cool birdies.

Rock ptarmigan

Willow ptarmigan

Two-person tripod

Yesterday we released another great piece of large equipment for players who love hunting with their friends. The two-person tripod. Perfect to call in an animal, get on top and pass the time chatting with your buddy while the animal makes its way to you. There is also a super crazy bundle in the store which features this new tripod. Check it out, it’s probably the biggest discount we’ve ever offered on relatively new stuff.

Here’s an update on the recent bugs – disappearing climbing gear, messed up sounds and calls as well as reduced weapon steadiness on towers. We are aiming to patch fixes for all those locusts in the next game update, hopefully next week (subject to change). As always, stay tuned and follow our updates!

Summer Fiesta

What’s for sure happening next week is the return of our traditional and probably most loved summer event. That’s right, it’s time for another summer fiesta! This time we’ve come up with a slightly different format, and I think that everyone will find something that appeals. Check back at the beginning of next week to learn the details!

Killing season

In case you’ve missed this thread on the forum – check out this epic competition by community member caledonianblues, which starts August 22nd. Sign up now and use this time to hone your skills, devise your strategies and plan how you’re going to walk away with some of the enormous 100,000 em$ prize pool!

On a final note, due to the summer doldrums, our weekly stream Lock&Learn is going on vacations together with Johanna and will be back in a couple of weeks.

Happy hunting!

Status Update 14th July 2016

Hello good hunters,

Welcome to our weekly status update!

Musings on game crashes

Starting with the big news, in case you missed it yesterday. We released a game patch which has been one of the most celebrated and welcomed game updates in the last months, both in theHunter team and the community. At least for people who were affected by repeated game crashes. In the patch we implemented the community-found and tested fix that we communicated in our last status update. The result is heart-warming and inspiring. Not only do we keep getting reports from people who have been plagued by those crashes that are able to play again with no problem after the patch, but we also see a huge drop in the numbers in our crash reporter tool.

Why just a drop and not a total elimination you ask? That is the million dollar question. The truth is that in any game, especially such an old and complex one like theHunter, with such an immense amount of content, there will always be crashes. Different combinations of software, hardware, actions performed in the game, Internet and server hiccups along with a host of other factors can cause the client to crash. The roots of those rare, random crashes are exceptionally difficult to locate. Although we are 100% committed to fixing as much as we can, especially when it comes to serious bugs and issues, we need to make our peace with the fact that the game will crash for some players once in awhile.

More bits and pieces about the patch

With the last game update we also included a fix for Sitka Deer that capped their antlers and made them too small. On your next hunt, drop by Whiterime Ridge to check them out and, while you are there, why not do some of the Sitka Deer missions created by Mills?

Continued bug fixing

Some known issues that we are looking into right now are disappearing climbing ropes on Val-des-Bois, Arctic Fox footstep sounds as well as weapon wobble on the towers. We are aiming to release a smaller patch with fixes for those very soon. Stay tuned!

Time for a new animal?

If you say so! While fixing stuff, we haven’t stopped working on new stuff for you to continuing experiencing theHunter as a constantly-evolving game. Yes, a new species is coming soon! Well, better to say, not one but two different species, which are variations, coming to two different reserves.

Dying for a hint? I thought so. As we never like making it too easy for you, make sure to come and watch our Lock&Learn today at 16:00 CEST on our official Twitch channel. This time Johanna will be accompanied by our User Acquisition Manager, Sacha, who joined us a couple of months ago and is now taking his first steps into the EHR. They will be hunting on one of the reserves where one the (two) new subspecies will reside, while also dropping some hints on what it will be. To spice the things up, the first person to guess the species and announce it in the livestream chat will get 1500 em$ on the spot. Hope to see you there!

Hunt ‘em all in Hemmeldal!

We continue releasing bundles with community loadouts that won in our competition, and it’s now time for Hemmeldal’s “Hunt-em-all” loadout by SloNeZ. You can pick it up here at a pretty great 53% discount!

That’s it from us for today!

Happy hunting!

One of the worst game in human history! It's BS that you have to pay for everything and when you came to close to an animal your character has the accuracy of a novice.
the developers should be ashamed of their failure.

so this is suppost to be some sort of quiet but rewarding game?
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t, the time it takes for me to kill a single rabbit let alone finding onw with the horrible tracking simulations is unreal.
and 9/10 of the animals you'll usually find require a license to kill,WHAT? the point of a game is that it is a game and its different from real life, as much as this was a simulation game,it made the game so boring. half the stuff that you need that makes you success in sess-pool of ♥♥♥♥ needs you to buy not talking a couple of cent/pence i mean ALOT of money.even if its free to play, dont get it,waste of space and on my last note,CHECK THE BUYABLE ADD-ONS

There is so much whinning about paying for a few things on this game. You cry about $10 for 3 months and $5 for new gun? I'm guessing none of you has ever had, nor will ever have a girlfriend. I spend more then that a week in "I'm sorry I said something stupid" flowers.

I hunt in real life, want to compare cost? My Gun w/locking case: $400, Hunter Safty Coures: $250, Firearms Permit: $250. Plus $58 for 1 Moose tag(actually is a draw system here and I'm not even garentied a tag). Almost $1000 the first year I hunted. Plus it cost about $600 to $900 to have a moose processed by the local wild game butcher.

Game: Around $200 for every gun in the game. plus $40 a year for every liscence and unlimited animals.

You do the math......Off to buy more flowers.

This is a good game BUT there is one downfall to this game and that it is pay to win. Excluding that factor the graphics are good and gameplay is wonderful.

I played the game for around 40 hours on my other steam account, and i truly enjoyed it. This is the best hunting game out there. Unfortunaately, my expierience was VERY limited due to the microtransactions which are almost essential to the game. I would rather just spend 10- 20 bucks on this game and have it include everything. i am very dissapointed, although i cannot say this is a bad game. I think you should try it out, and maybe you will even decide to spend money on the game for the full expierience.

A great hunting game if you are into or want to learn more about hunting.
There are a lot of people who complain about the licenses needed to hunt various animals, however thats how hunting works.
You dont just grab a gun and randomly go shooting stuff, you need an actual license, usually for the region as well as the type of animal, not to mention you often also have to pay pr animal you kill, and thats separate from the license.

There are free guns in the game as well as animals you can hunt, so yes the game is free to play, however to fully explore everything you should grab one of the packs that go with the game, not to mention you will help support the people who made the game and that keep adding content to it.

Only downside in regards to the game is that id like more ballistics and more weapon and ammunition brands, but in all fairness there is plenty to use already, just not a huge blaser fan myself :P

I did not pay anything for this game, but i have greatfun playing it never the less!
I honestly can't understand the people who say that this games is crap because it takes them to long to find a animal, or it takes them to long to find an animal they are allwoed to hunt... yada yada yada... moste of the negative reviews cry all about the same ♥♥♥♥!
If you are not willing or able to just play the damn tutorial and after that use your f*ing brain please go back to school and learn something!

The thing about the hunting licenses, yeah as a free player you can hunt 3 animals, White tail deers, european rabbits and phesants, additionally to that 2 randome animals that are changing each thursday. I don't have problems hunting them. If you want to find and hunt them you first should play on the right map and... ahh wait, i don't want to be your tutorial, just play the tutorial and use your brain, after a few hours of gameplay i think you can try writing a review again.

I have to admit that this game has very much features you have to buy for a specific time or temporarily and i don't like this either. Also the premium credits are the opposite of being cheap.
But if you realy want to have something from the store and don't want to pay money, go play the game with the free stuff and compete in competitions, because there you can win the premium money. I don't say it is easy, but if you want it you can do it.

The last thing i want to say is, this game is a very good simulation and you won't find any better! So if you like hunting play the game for free! If you like the game so much you can buy something, nobody forces you to do it!
