About This Game

TowerFall Ascension is the definitive version of the hit archery combat game. Inspired by classics from the golden age of couch multiplayer, it's a 4-player local party game centering around hilarious, intense versus matches. The core mechanics are simple and accessible, but hard to master and combat is fierce. Loot treasure chests for game-changing power-ups, master the art of catching arrows out of the air, or descend on your foes and stomp them into submission. TowerFall is best played competitively with friends, cross-legged on the floor within punching distance of each other.

New in Ascension is the 1- or 2-player co-op Quest mode. Players work together, fighting off a variety of monsters and enemy archers across the land of TowerFall. It's a new adventure to explore when you don't have more friends handy to square off against.

New features in TowerFall Ascension include:
  • Brand new 1- or 2-player co-op Quest mode
  • 50 additional Versus arenas, for a total of 120 unique maps
  • More game-changing power-ups, such as Drill Arrows that burrow through walls
  • 4 new unlockable, playable archers, for a total of 8
  • A huge list of variants to customize your matches - a total of 75 ways to mix things up
  • Plenty of hidden secrets and surprises to discover with your friends

The game itself is okay. There is a relatively weak SP, and couch-co-op only, so that hurts my opinion of it significantly. The majority of the game's content is only accessible if you have another friend who can come to your house and wants to play this game. There is an expansion coming out, and surprisingly, considering how little content there is overall, the expansion is not free. The dev is of course free to charge for DLC, but it just seems to be a bad move to me. Personally, I'd make sure the base game is stable and substantial for the current audiences it caters to (SP and local split-screen) before I'd ask people to pay for me.

One of the dev's forum admins is a little trigger happy on the thread deleting as well. They seem to get rid of anyone with anything negative to say.

More recently, there's this http://www.polygon.com/2015/2/10/8011477/towerfall-anita-sarkeesian
I've seen multiple threads of people calmly discussing this, without negativity, just curiosity, and those threads get deleted as well.

I did play over 4 hours of the game as well, so I'm not one of those people who plays for 10 minutes and gives a bad review.

EDIT: They delete threads that even mention the deleting of threads. Seems like the only place you can speak your mind is in the game reviews.

This game is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ delight. It's got fast paced multiplayer that feels easy to learn but difficult to master, and the single player challenges are well designed and have perfect difficulty scaling.

If you are going to let yourself miss out on a game as good as Towerfall simply because of your hatred of feminism then congratulations, you've succeeded in ruining gaming for yourself!

This game is fantastic. The co-op adventure mode is a lot of fun, and the VS. mode is a blast - especially with 3 or 4 people. No online gameplay is a letdown, but this game shines with some friends & a couch.

Just an awesome game for casual and other players ! You always find a cool way to dodge or attack your opponents, even if you played a lot of matches on the same maps.

Best party game since Smash Bros. Maybe even better for parties than Smash because it's easier to pick up and play competitively.

Old school addicting and though (at times frustrating) game if you play the quest alone or with a friend.
Amazingly funny when you play versus with some friends in local co-op. I recommend this as a party game.

Pros:
Amazingly fun local co-op.
Modifiers and different game modes add lots of variety / replayability and the ability to level playing field between new and experienced players.
Solo campaign is a fun and challenging experience.
Animations, art, and sound are really polished, further enhancing the awesomeness.
Slow motion replays of that unbelivable last round.
Amazingly fun local co-op.

Cons:
Matt Thorson hasn't made another game yet.
I can't get enough of this game.

Tips:
You can play with the keyboard, but you really should use controllers if you can.
Hook up your PC to the TV and play on the couch with three friends for maximum enjoyment.

Wish there was a way to play online even for a few matches daily or something along those lines, but i love this game. the combination of archery trick shots and monsters . The art style is amazing for my taste .Playing head to head to head to head is so much fun with extra goodies on even better.

First off, the elephant in the room: This game is local multiplayer or single player only and essentially requires controllers to play. That being said, if you're interested and that's not a problem - it's worth it.

It's well designed to cater to both those who prefer casual play and those who want to master it. While new players will certainly feel less skilled, after getting a hang of the controls even they can get a few good shots in. Everyone I've played it with has enjoyed it after only a few rounds.

This is the quintessential fun video game. It is best with local multiplayer but the single player quest is also entertaining.

Approachable, yet with a lot of depth for advanced play. IMO, the best competitive couch multiplayer on PC.

Simple, precise, and open to a wide and vast room of skills, playstyles and A LOT of fun.

This game has everything right for what it was supossed to be, really easy mechanics, but a lot of techniques to master in battle, which make itboth good for casual and competitive fast placed play, and despite having relatively few content, its trials, quest modes and a high number of variants for versus fill the necesary for this to make you play a lot of time.

Not much to say, the perfect couch game. 10/10

It's ridiculously fun both alone and with friends.
It's been years since I actually put time into a game to unlock characters and stages
and I can say it was really refreshing!

don't be scared by the price, it's an extremely high quality game!

worth every penny :)
