Version 1.0.2, Build 5.7 - Happy Holidays!

Welcome to Version 1.0.2, Build 5.7 - Update #44!

Merry Festivus and Happy New Year to our awesome community!

This update will be our last for the year as we ramp down for a well earned break and some long overdue family time.

We will be back again around the second week of January for a little while, then we are taking another break until the start of February.

You may still see us on the forums from time to time, and we will try to stay active on support issues whenever we can.

We want to wish you all a safe and happy new year, and we look forward to continuing our journey together next year!

So, lets get into business….

Online systems Upgrade
We have upgraded or networking library to the latest version (a significant change) to try to address the ping and connectivity issues some of our players have been experiencing.

As the issues are only effecting a small group of players, we cannot guarantee this change will actually fix the issue, but it will at worst case allow us to get our networking provider involved (they were unable to support us on the older version we were on).

This change has affected/touched almost every bit of networking code in our game, so though we have been super careful to try not to add new issues to our code, until it hits wider testing we won’t know for sure.

We’d love to hear from anyone that was experiencing problems

This update includes a new version of our LAN server and WILL NOT work with the older version.

New NPC Animations and Icons
We’ve added three new NPC animation sets in 1.0.2 - Working, Sweeping and Guarding:

We’ve also added an Icon system to NPCs - an NPC can now display an Icon (Exclamation, Asterisk or Question Mark) which will display the selected Icon above that NPC’s head. The Icon will stay visible until somebody in the party talks to the NPC, it will then turn off for the rest of the adventure.

Changes to Reward adventure system
It’s been less than a week since we launched our daily rewards system, and though the results for the included adventures have been phenomenal, it’s clear that we have more adventures being created per day than the daily system can cater for, so we’ve change how it works, and now it ticks over every 8 hours, presenting you with 18 adventures per day.

We’ll keep monitoring the play counts of adventures over the next little while and we’ll keep working on the problem of discoverability of new adventures.

Improved text edit boxes
We have finally worked out that how we were validating our text fields was causing the text input fields to behave badly when trying to insert text, so we have started changing many of our text edit fields over to a new validation system.

One of the advantages (apart from insert working) of our new system is that you will get proper feedback as to why you can’t use the text you entered, but only when you try to submit it.

We have moved some of our text fields over so far (Comments, Reports, NPC Dialogue, Character name) but some of them haven't been done yet as they are going to require some breaking changes (Publish UI, Campaign UI etc) that we didn’t want to try JUST before we broke for holidays.

We’ll continue to move everything over to the new system in future updates.

Version 1.0.1, Build 5.5 - Daily Rewards!

Welcome to Version 1.0.1, Build 5.5 - Update #43!

This update has lots of goodies, changes and fixes, including stuff like our new experimental Mouse & KB controls, weapon damage balance tweaks, 2 handed weapon attack speed changes and better discoverability for new and unplayed adventures!

Daily Rewards System
With our launch, we’ve seen a HUGE amount of new creators join our ranks, adding almost 1000 new adventures in just under 6 days! New adventures is great for our community, but it dramatically added to an existing problem we’ve been trying to deal with for a while… new adventure discoverability.

After reading the forums for months and smacking our heads in frustration for all of you that put so much time and effort into making great content for the community, only to have tiny amounts of players ever find your adventures, we finally came up with what we think is a pretty awesome idea to START to deal with the issue - Daily Rewards.

Every day you will be presented with 6 of our least played and newest adventures, and you will be able to play them and earn 20% extra XP per kill and get an increased loot drop rate (more loot, better loot).

Every player gets the same 6 reward adventures each day, so creators could potentially see hundreds of new plays when their adventures are selected.

The deal only works once per reward adventure, so that means 6 opportunities per day to earn bonus rewards!

If you happen to have one of the 6 adventures on your map already, that’s ok, you’ll see a spinning yellow star on it letting you know it’s a daily, and you will still get the reward for playing it on that day.

We really think this new feature will go a long way towards getting new and unplayed adventures noticed and we are excited to hear what you all think once you have given it a go!

New “Experimental” Control Scheme
So we’ve take a lot of your feedback on Mouse and Keyboard gameplay, and we’re going to start experimenting with our input systems until we find something that works for everybody. For 1.0.1 we’ve added a new “Experimental” mouse Input system that you can find in the Settings->Game menu in your Home screen.

In this new mode, your mouse cursor is permanently hidden and you rotate your camera simply by moving the mouse left or right (no middle mouse clicking). You attack with the LMB as usual, but when you attack your direction is determined by your WSAD keyboard input. So if you’re not touching any keyboard movement inputs, you will attack forward from the camera, otherwise you’ll attack in the direction of your movement input.

It’s a bit hard to describe with text, but a good example of this control method are the Rocksteady’s Batman games. The main advantage of this system is that it makes camera movement incredibly easy, but by losing the mouse cursor you’re no longer able to click on UI (you’ll use KB - 1-4 for special attacks, [,] and [/] for potions, etc or whatever keys you’ve bound for them). We think this scheme has got potential, so please give it a try and let us know what you think on the forums!

Networking Changes & Problems
As many of you might have noticed or experienced, we’ve had some networking issues with both our server ping/selection system as well as some other connectivity issues.

One thing a few of you have reported is what looks like a lockup when joining, leaving or forced disconnection from a network game, and we think we tracked that down to a few corner cases where your character was removed from the network game and never re-added back in… No character, means no control of the game, so it looks like a lockup.

We think we have these fixed in this build, so we’d love to hear feedback from you all that did see these “lockups” to let us know if they are gone.

With regard to the server pings and connectivity, that’s a harder problem for us to solve and requires us to move to a newer version of our network library that is quite a bit different from what we have now, but we are committed to fixing these issues, so now that 1.0.1 is out, we plan on ripping our networking apart and upgrading our library and getting some test builds out to those of you that have been having problems and see if we can eliminate the issues.

We estimate we should be able to get some test builds ready by early next week and hopefully have 1.0.2 (network fixes) out by the end of next week.

We really appreciate your patience while we get this sorted out.

Attack speeds, balance and auto attack
We’ve made some considerable balance changes for 1.0.1, including speeding up the attack animations of several slower weapon types, as well as some significant stat changes for newly dropped weapons. Like when we were in Early Access stat balance changes will only affect newly dropped items, any items you’ve already collected will remain unchanged.

You can also now simply hold down the Primary Attack button when attacking to execute a combo, so you don’t need to button mash as much anymore - your mouse/controller will thank us!

1.0.1 (Build 5.5) Change List

  • New Reward system in Adventure Gallery
  • Adding server ping status display to online screen
  • Added new experimental mouse input system in Settings -> Game
  • Added a new Attack Speed item modifier

  • Fixed world map details sometimes appearing in home screen when opening Settings after Gallery was opened
  • Fixed inventory keyboard help not showing correct key when inventory key has been rebound
  • Fixed not being able to close the inventory with the inventory button in the Dragon Arena
  • ACK: Fixed some controller navigation issues on the enemy inspector UI
  • ACK: Fixed being unable to cancel out of finding an Event Receiver with a controller

This is a review of Fight the Dragon by 3 Sprockets games, an early access arpg on Steam.
It is currently available for PC, OSX and Linux.

The developers are planning on making it available on other platforms at some point.

Fight the Dragon is a Arpg-style game that takes elements from games in the Diablo or Torchlight series, and mixes them up with a bit of Little Big Planet as well as Minecraft.

I've been playing arpg's of one sort or the other for many years-since the debut of the first Diablo game back in 1996 in fact. I've played almost every single game in the arpg genre. While Fight the Dragon isn't exactly like a traditional arpg due to its incorporation of things like puzzles and its lack of a main storyline I feel it more than makes up for it in its replay value as well as its customisability.

It all starts with their Adventure Creation Kit. This is a simple to learn editor that allows players to create and share their own adventures.
Players can also share their adventures or campaigns online. The game has Steam workshop integration. You can subscribe to custom character modifications that let you change your characters look OR you can share your own creations with others. Adventures (as well as gameplay) are also cross-platform.

This game has a ton of replay value. There are over 3k player-made adventures, and more are added all the time. There's also four player co-op via internet OR LAN, and two player local co-op! Between single player content and multiplayer it means way more than your moneys worth. There are features that haven't been implemented yet. Money has no use aside from the games 'loot sacrifice' system. Every player gets a loot shrine. They can add excess loot to get donation tiers.

When you've donated enough items to reach the next tier you get to choose a random item of rare or better quality. It means your chances of getting something decent are good whether you accomplish an adventure or not. This game is challenging! It has easy maps but the real fun starts on medium. Maps aren't just about killing monsters. There are puzzles to solve as well. It means that no matter how many times you play the game there's always a new problem to solve which means less chance of losing interest.

I think this game is worth the low price they're charging for it ($14.99, currently on sale (as of 12-10-14) for $11.99), and the developers are constantly adding great new features to it. I think this is a solid buy for any arpg fan or for anyone who loves a good hack and slash dungeon crawling adventure.

I really liked Fight The Dragon more then I thought I would. After about 24 hours in I felt I had a really good character going. Its fun because the game doesnt take itself to serious. Once you get the feel of the game you want to keep playing(At least I did). Either you want to play for a whole day. Or just go back to the game ever once in a while to level your character up some. Although I did find problems I really did find alot to like.
Pros-Lots of great Adventures and Champaigns made by players.
Not to hard at all to make your own maps.
Lots of loot
The Dragon is really hard to kill so you want to keep leveling so you can do it.
Fun exploration. You really want to keep going.
Cons-Glitchy, Some enemys get stuck or they come at you all at once.
Characters feel kinda the same. Not much to choose from.
Not many different enemys. Maps feel the same after a while.
Just feels like it needs more. Especially at your house.
Overall I am happy I bought it. I also will keep playing it from time to time. I hope more content and fixes happen.

Fantastic game so far. Community maps are really enjoyable and the fact you can make fun campaigns is a big bonus.

Some little bugs- some just fixed themselves, others aren't really that big.

Only negative I can imagine seems to be that you cannot fight the dragon with friends.

Will update if any major problems are seen.

Are you dying to have your thirst quenched for a solid RPG hack and slash? Look no further.

Simply put this game is like gauntlet met diablo with a comforting playful art and combat style like torchlight, and a level creator that is as simple as minecraft

Do you and your buddies think some hack and slashes are too easy? are the waves of monsters just not tough enough for you? GOOD! look no further-- get your crew together making maps in only a few hours with as many enemies as you can handle, with tricks and traps to kill each other, and hidden treasure to share with the adventerous!

The community for this game is great, the devs are incredibly friendly and helpful and listen to their fans, and as it stands this game is a fun family game- weekend game and even a fun single player experience

hope they keep up the good work and possibly add another class or 2

I recommend it to anyone who enjoys playing games. Matter of fact I bought a second copy for a friend because its just that good.

User created contect
Fun gameplay
Loot for days
Feels like a lite Diablo

Controlls for keyboard (Mainly camera control) need a little work
Graphics are a bit low end in some areas, but for those with less than great rigs that could be a pro

Awh man... played it for an hour and I already love it. The fact that it's basically endless with community maps and stuff makes it so nice to play. I started to make my own map too, the editor is actually really simple to use. I picket it up within minutes without even watching the video.

Gameplay is smooth, love the graphics style, music is good but sound effects could be better! Overall I loved it and I now know what I'll be playing over christmas break :D

*Edited my earlier comments*

FtD is a blast to play but you have to pay attention to the details. If you want to select which user-created content you are going to play you have to right-click on the tiles to bring up the gallery. Pay close attention to adventure ratings as players are able to rate content higher or lower. Also, pay special attention to the easiness of adventures. I made the mistake of playing more difficult adventures which my character was not ready for. But I went back and chose correctly for my character and skills and was able to finish with minimal deaths. :)

FtD may require a few passes before you "get it". Once you do, it's a hoot to play. It's nice to be able to quickly run through an adventure.

Great game and for its state in development only a few bugs were found but it was mainly tiny animation glitches that looked funny and this is a EARLY REVIEW OF THE GAME
The games concept is great like they said little big planet and diablo
Its diliverd well with a easy to use level creating system and online and offline missions made by community memebers now
it might sound awesome but there are still some bad or still in progress levels but then there are always those really cool origional levels and if you think a level needs work well you can leave comments for the creator to see or if the level is offenceve you can report if needed and of course there is a dislike and like and meh button
The game is great no lie its diliverd greatly and may need some work on the animation glitches but its still a great game
Now you can get a lot of loot not just a few but ALOT WAY TO MANY XD but you can turn it into donations which later on those donations can get you some sweet gear and lets get to the dragon its a boss really really strong but you can only solo the boss and cant fight it with your friends wait waaaat? theres a reason because everytime you damage the dragon it leaves it permenently because the dragon has a lot of HP and your suppose to fight him multiple times to acctualy kill him and trust me its gonna take a long time but for every 500 damage you do to the dragon you get rare gear that can only be used for a set amount of time but is a great boost I mainly donate them
The game itself is all dependant on community no lie and please please add fighting dragon online i know it probibly is not possible the way its currently coded
Graphics are cartoonish which i like it fits and sorta blocky and wait theres workshop mmmmmm You know what this means POTATO SUIT AWAY and creating your own armor or well skin as i may say for your hero then crying cause armor blocks it.
Then the replayability
come on come on its a community based RPG where the people make the levels i think we know the replayability
Now this is one of the few games that might leave early accses seeing how much they work on it and get progress done
and i am happy to auction a copy for myself because iv been looking at this game for a while and they hade made progress well if you look at it as a developer they made progress
So 8/10 great game hope its final realease happens and may the hack and slash gods be with you :D

This game is really fun. An Rpg and Adventure Creator in one!

You gain exp and level up.
Find new equipment,
Use or trade that new equipment in for new items or bonuses.
Create your own adventures and campaigns.
The editor is straight forward to you and easy to learn, with a few slightly
harder things it lets you do that takes a bit more practice but not too much.
Can play multi-player.
4 different classes.
Can make or download your own clothing for cool looks.

Great as a solo game, and even better with friends. Hours of button mashing fun and laughs. Comes with a built in scenario builder to create your own adventure, or challenge your friends.

A simple hack and slash with lots of loot. It's fun, easy to get into and you're always finding stronger and better gear. Best part of the game though is the map creator that gives you the tools to make your own maps and such. Maps are uploaded and everything you play is user generated by other players like yourself. I'v spent more time making levels than I have actually playing. It's a cheap game with infinite replay value!

This game has everything that I want in a game. A great adventuring platform and the ability to make great quests. A community driven game where many of the adventures are rated and have been played hundreds of times. This game is doing the adventure platform right. 9 out of 10.

I hope there is more coming =)
