HTS2 - 70% OFF, More Language Support & Release!

Dear Survivors,

When we began Early Access back in 2015 we stated that we wanted to have a final game by summer 2016. And we can now announce that we will be launching How to Survive 2 on September 8th 2016.

For the past few months, we have been working with you to enhance, widen and shape How to Survive 2 by taking in account requests and suggestions from the forums. We would like to thank everyone for their feedback by making sure that you get a nice pack of Early Access items. So anyone who purchased the game before official launch will receive the Pet Crow, the Winter Hat and the Dual Knives. Those who purchase at launch and after will need to purchase them via DLC. We will be keeping the Primal Fear Armor for those who already own another How to Survive franchise game. The Voodoo Guitar will remain exclusive to players who purchased the game early (thank you, guys!).

We knew from our research that the community wanted a space where they could play with friends and freely create their own camps, so we focused in developing a system where you could invite other players and cooperate with them to survive.

The scenarios are now bigger than ever in the How to Survive franchise, introducing a variety of environments from swamps to suburban streets, sewers, farms, the French Quarter, etc. And we have populated it with infected hordes that include classic zombies, fast zombies, SWAT, exploding or mutilated zombies, farmers and more. You can also find a large catalogue of animals, infected or not, roaming the scenarios: alligators, turtles, pelicans, bears, deer, pigs, bunnies, etc.

You can come across over a dozen NPCs that will trigger dozens of quests with different mechanics: scavenge, timed challenges, escort and stealth missions. And, first among the locals, there is Kovac who will guide your steps to craft your gear, build your camp and fortify it. Following his recipes, you and your friends will be able to equip your survivors with amazing weapons and armors. And you can choose among dozens of skills to level up and create unique characters.

There has been exhaustive work tweaking and adjusting animations, controls, difficulty, leveling, etc. And, by the time that you read these lines, our plan is to have the game available into, at least, 11 languages! In our latest update today we have added language support for Korean, Thai and Turkish.

There will be one last content update at launch to bring new challenges and quests, camp modifications, new enemies, building, weapon and armor novelties and… a special surprise Kovac finale! We wanted to do something completely crazy and unexpected, just like Kovac. So don’t tell us… "Oh, I saw that coming…" because you didn’t. ;)

Upon game launch we will need to reset the servers which will mean all camps and characters will be reset back to the beginning. We have implemented a new save structure that is a bit more simplified than what we had during Early Access which we hope will clear up a number of issues that users have reported to us. Along with the save update we are also releasing all the game Achievements for the game which will require you to start from a fresh launch. The quest structure has been updated and finalized so we hope everyone will have a nice story quest flow that will lead up to our new ultra-exciting story ending.

After the game launch we will be monitoring the forums and game performance to decide our next steps. So stay tuned!

“How To Survive is more than just a solid zombie role-playing game, it's also one of the best games of the year. With its mix of Diablo-esque hack and slash and dual-stick shooter action, 505 Games' newest Xbox Live Arcade game is a real surprise. It has a deep crafting system and a world you can't help but want to explore. How To Survive rewrites the book on zombie RPGs!”
90% – Gaming Nexus

“While there have been several games that have recently released that fall into the growing zombie survival genre, How to Survive manages to do enough differently to earn its place among the crowd. The game’s strong emphasis on crafting and juggling basic human needs helps distinguish itself from other titles. Additionally, the story campaign features a tale that manages to contain a few plot twists despite its simplicity. One area where How to Survive shines is the game’s strange brand of humor which is helped along by the title’s decent voice acting. In all, How to Survive is recommended to any fans of either the undead or survival simulators. Those who enjoy intricate crafting or top-down gaming should also give it a look.”
4 Stars – Examiner

“In terms of graphic and sound design, How to Survive looks good and sounds even better. The lighting gives real-time shadows based on not only the source but the time of day as the shadows move with the passing sunlight. The island is beautifully rendered, and animations are fluid and zombie deaths are pleasingly gory, chunks of body parts will liter the ground and roll depending on the shape of the surface”
8/10 – Gamer Horizon

A neat little game, short but entertaining.

Best thing about it is the easily accessible crafting system. Gather stuff that you find all over the islands and combine them to powerful items. Manage your character and limited inventory space, find water and food so you don't starve, find shelter to sleep when you are exhausted and protect yourself from the creatures on the island.
Kill hordes of Zombies with your ever improving crafted weaponary and armor and find a way off the island.

This game is not hardorce survival horror. More a top-down shooter.

I like this game. It has a few good hours of zombie killing fun and its awesome with friends (but team damage is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥). I would only get on a ~20% off sale, it gets boring late-game. All of the quests are "Go over there and do that thing while I do nothing".

The controls are weird, and everything in the game is just very inconvenient. It is very difficult to see items on the ground which is especially frustrating if you like to use the bow and arrow. It's fun for a while, but it gets tiring quickly.

This is good game,i like it,but i should also mention it have some nasty flaws.

During sales, this game can be bought at 90% discount. Eat-drink-sleep system is amazing.Kovac is very unique character which can be rarely seen in other zombie games.Interesting storyline.Challenges and Barricade modes. Crafting system is amazing.Islands are pretty, and each one of them is unique. Large amount of enemies.

Inventory managment is extremly lame.Travel system is bad. Other in game characters will be totally ignored by zombies. There are a lot of incorrect subtitles. There are few bugs including combat system.

Im giving 6.5/10 for this game.

Would recommend if it's on sale. Overall, I'd give the base game a 6/10, and the DLC 4/10.

Later in the game, it starts to wear on you/become repetitive, but you just have to press on through. There's a bit of a learning curve for a lot of aspects, but once you get past the first island, things become a lot mroe clear.

Nice storyline. I'm not generally a fan of zombie games, but it's a mix of nature survival and zombie survival
Crafting lets you do different things without being too in-depth (though pretty linear/few overlapping components)
Plentiful ammo, so if you use it properly, no real need for time-consuming CQB once you get going in the game
Won't do any spoilers, but there are interesting twists and turns
The "Kovac's Tips" are a nice way of doing in-game tutorials; informative but fun and creative
The base game does a pretty good job of being clear about your goals, good map icons (though the DLC loses that in a lot of ways)
Overal enjoyable to play, and keeps you drawn in for the base game (though for DLC, see above point)

The camera angles... it's a fixed cam, or rather a series of fixed cams that semi-randomly rotate. No way to adjust your veiw. Sometimes enemies will be a few feet away, but you can't see them because of the camera angles.
You need to stockpile all your "dropped" weapons in a couple centralized places, or you'll lose track of where stuff is - no system for keeping track of what you drop (no chests, storage system, or map to show where stuff is)
After the main game, not a lot is explained well enough - have to google A LOT later in the game
Lots of grinding later in the game, and though it says you're getting xp, it's essentially meaningless becaue of how the upgrades work
If you move offscreen, a horde of zombies could appear where you just were. Constantly clearing the map everywhere you go is a huge pain
Zombies respawn way too fast. If you can back-and forth between islands (or even off-and-on screen sometimes), everything fully regenerates right away
Nighttime combat: think Hyrule field from Ocarina of Time - no way to stop annoying pests popping up throughout the night, and from all around you. A bit of a pain to deal with throughout the entire game
Can't sleep through the night unless you're tired (at most, every-other day or every few). No way around nighttime combat

This game is a veey fun, and somewhat more challenging game compared to other survival type games. It does, however get boring after some time, and can start to get repetitive with the mechanics. The biggest problem I faced was lack of inventory, but it also felt more realistic as far as these type of games go. The game provides several hours of addicting fun, but I do reccomend getting this on sale.

For me, it was disappointing. I expected lots and lots of crafting and weird survival tactics in an oddball world where the rules were a bit different. What I got was another damn zombie shooter and really not much else. The crafting is very lackluster, which feels weird to say because I kind of got the impression that it was this game's major selling point. It's nothing that hundreds of games haven't done better.

I won't rule out the possibility that it might get better later, when you get rid of that annoying ♥♥♥ Kovak and have to build your own base and such, but honestly, I was annoyed enough with the dull gameplay that I couldn't stay invested.

If you like top-down shooters, you'll like this. If you come to it expecting a combination of Dead Island and The Long Dark (like I did), then you're in for a disappointment.

When you lose because the game was still loading, you know the game isn't good. I had lots of trouble to make this crappy excuse of game running on a controller, and it's hard to move through this terrible interface menu. Nonsensical save-sytem, boring voice acting, but at least Kovac is funny.

This game is great at first but the game becomes way more difficult near the end to the point where not even the most advanced weapons and armor you have can help you.

Garden variety top-down zombie shooter with crafting and survival. Personally not my cup of tea, but if that appeals to you, then go for it. I only put "not recommended" because there is no neutral option.
