What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are using Early Access to enable you to keep us alive long enough to finish this game. By buying the game while it's not finished we can keep working until it is.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We can't say how much longer it will take till we are at our full version, by a guess would be another 6 months or so”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

Full version is planned to feature:
  • Comprehensive Training/Tutorial
  • Ranks and Competitions
  • Level ups / XP
  • Lots of achievements
  • Steam workshop for custom maps and armors/clothes
  • Party Matchmaking
  • Clans/Guilds
  • Team objectives game mode(s)
  • Singleplayer/Co-op survival game
  • More of the other stuff (spells, swords, armor, etc.)
  • Much more balance and way less bugs

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“I'm not going to pretend this game is finished, as you can see from the list of features we are still working on it's going to be a fair amount of time before its called "done".

That said, the game is playable and enjoyable, the fundamentals of combat (albeit sometimes buggy) can currently be experienced by anyone in all it's glory.
If you are someone who needs more than just combat to continue enjoying the game, you may get tired of this fairly quickly”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“After Early Access this game will go up in price, hence why you would want to invest in it now while it's still a work in progress

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We listen very closely to everything our players relay to us. I'm sure many of our community members can already tell you how a feature or fix they have suggested has since been added to the game.

If you join the community you can be assured you will have an impact. We are not your programming slaves here to make any or every idea but we do consider all the ideas we read”

About This Game

Kingdoms Rise is about palpable multiplayer fantasy battle. Take your choice of weapons and abilities onto a battlefield where skill alone will decide your fate.

With a multitude of armors, swords, spells, ranged weapons and more you can customize a warrior and a fighting style unique to you.

Kingdoms Rise makes fantasy combat something more than grind a earn level-ups. It's not a means to an end but and end in itself.
The feeling of steel against steel is made solid. Bringing all tension and thrill as knights wield sword and fire against each other.

Read your opponent and try to psych them out in tactical blade dueling.
Wield spells such as fireballs, lightening, hook-shots, invisibility and blinks that will work tightly in tandem with your strengths in swordsmanship.
This game has been build from the beginning to feel palpable, as though you control every muscle and plant every step. You wont watch a knight perform fancy pants maneuvers from simple button presses, instead you step into the very boots of your character and fight with your own finesse.

With deep character customization every fight is unique and every opponent will have a new trick up their sleeve.
Experiment with different combinations and strategies to create a knight with a fighting style unique to you alone.

Players can form parties with friends and fight in competitive modes.
In team games the only limit is your imagination. Your teammates can build themselves into roles such as tanks, damage dealers, supports or any new role you see fit. Think up new strategies, combine spells in interesting ways and achieve victory!

Key Features
  • 360° Directional Melee Sword Fighting System
  • Deep Character Customization
  • Wide Range of Magic spells and abilities to use and combine
  • Create a Party with Friends and fight as a Team

Dissapointingly unplayable. This game has so much potential but it's quite upsetting to see them charge so much for a game that's so empty an under-developed, even for an early access game. Controls are stiff and annoying, combat is just confusing and there generally barely anything else to do other than run round and kill people. The graphics are what stand out the most in the game, effects are vivd and beutiful and the maps look divine, it's just a shame it doesn't play as well.

Do not play this if you ever want to play a finished game. Released in November 2013, not much better in March 2015.

Dev is too slow with updates, and the player base is consistantly ~1 person avg every month. Biggest regret on Steam.

A really promising game, sadly no one is really playing it a whole lot.

it seems to move slowly, as they aren't many working on it, but it's really fun. As long as anyone else is playing. Which seems to be the problem. It's a pretty dead game, but hopefully some marketing once it's released will change that.

Pretty disappointing 'forever in early access' game. The controls are clunky, the UI is extremely buggy, the game renders horribly, and the map selection/style of play is extremely limited.

I bought this game about a year ago, and have seen some changes.. but far too little.. I couldn't see this game releasing for another couple of years, and even then I worry that it would still be a buggy mess.

I do not recommend this game, even for its price. It is a perfect example of what's wrong with the 'early access' on steam.

let's keep this simple:

- the good
*good graphics
*well established combat system
*plenty of customization

- the bad

*very glitchy
*an abundance of clipping
*usually one capped server with the rest being empty

I really hope the developers will put some more time into the game, but more importantly it needs more players!

I was extremely excited about this game when I first got seems like everything that I ever wanted in a competitive fantasy game like this. The swordplay worked well, the blink teleports made getting around quick and exciting, and the game looked really cool. I would have recommended it in a heartbeat.

However, I can't do that in good conscience anymore. Unfortunately, the game has bugs that haven't been fixed after months, the community is tiny at this point, and, while this might just be me, I feel like the game has gotten less responsive when it comes to attacking and parrying.

A great game with potential, but it was a let down in the end.

Although I haven't played too much of this game, I would recommend it to anybody looking for a competitive game with a skill-based melee system!

They've fixed character customization and the menus since I played, but the gameplay is still pretty similar to this video.

I plan on coming back to Kingdoms Rise when I have more free time to check out all the content the developers keep adding :)

Good, and fairly fun. Hopefully this continues to get better, and while early access certainly enabled this game to get to this point, it may also be its death. The people who were looking for a game like this probably already lost interest a while ago.

First of all, buy this game and give these developers your money.

Here's why (for those of you who know how to read). Giving them your money will help this team improve. This game is the best and worst game I have ever played. It plays sort of like Dark Souls series, with combat, they could drastically improve the combat system for more fluid movements and better mobility. The idea of this game is what every hardcore RPG player will want in a game, an online, combat oriented, PVP masterpiece. But that's just the idea. The game has many flaws that will only be fixed by overcoming financial barriers.

For those Dark Souls series lovers, remember Dark Souls started as Demon Soul's (which nobody I know personally played before falling in love with Dark Souls other than myself). I strongly suggest this crowd to support this game, and to see where a series like this could go.

-Awesome Character Loadout Screens
-The Idea of a PVP combat Oriented Hardcore RPG
-The Gameplay is fun even if it's not as good as it could be.
-PVP System
-It's not even finished yet

-It's Not Finished
-Slow Updates
-Very Slow, Un-Fluid (for lack of a better term) Movements.
- Graphics could be smoother in most instances.

When i saw this game for the first time I fell in love instantly. It was a like all that kind of games of multiplayer shooters but instead of using guns, using swords. That was something compleatly new for me, and I have never liked shotters because I prefer swords (hell yeah), so I had directly infront of me the perfect game. That would have been a really good time if the game was finished when i bought it. But I dint mind, i just played and looked for things that could be improved, and im glad to say that most of the things that i thought have been used. Anyway, not everything is good, the description exagerates every aspect of the game, it is full of bugs, as the game is a beta there is not too much people playing it at once or maybe no one is playing (that produces that all the people that is playing is playing the same game and maybe the servers has too much lag for you), the "noobs" and the "pros" play the same match, etc, etc, etc. But as I said this is beta enviroment, it has a lot of things to improved and I encourage them to keep going like this. It is incredible the way they have work this. Date: 4/11/2014

Kingdom's Rise is still in Early Acess, but it has huge potential. Though I haven't done too much with this game recently, it has a great concept, and huge customizability options for a MMO. When playing, it is easy to tell that it is still under development, as the game is a bit buggy, and some things aren't balanced. This game could possibly rival Chivalry or other games of the same concept. I would reccomend this game to anyone who is looking for casual play every once in a while, but isn't looking for massive servers with 20-30 players. At most I think I've had 15 other people in a server, so the community is still small, but don't let that persuade you not to support Kingdom's Rise. If you don't want to get it now (with all the bugs and small community), then consider getting later on sale or after it passes through the Early Acess system. Great job to Flyleap Studios for making a phenominal game with huge potential. Keep the work up!

It's an okay game... It just lacks... something... in a couple of areas. With more updates it would be great.

Small player base right now, but that and the general buggyness of being early access are its only real flaws. Really fun game. If you have people to play it with, it's really great. Even one on one will keep you for hours.

First things first: if you are wondering should you buy this game or not, don't buy it (right now).
But if you like sword fighting multiplayer games, keep an eye on this game.

All this is because of one reason. The game is basically abandoned by players most of the time. But at the same point, developers are making updates on a regular basis. Plus the game itself has a really nice gameplay. Easy to understand but also with some depth (well, at least for an early access game). You have spells, you have several swords, each with its own bonuses, you even have some ranged weapons, plus acrobatics. Also the graphics and animations are really nice. Yes, there are quite a few bugs, but it's early access, right?
But all this niceness doesn't matter when you don't have players in the game.

So, as I already said, keep an eye on this game.
And if at some point the Kingdom will Rise, buy this game.

Early Access Review
I'm a sucker for PVP melee combat games that involve both mind games and skill to win. I bought this game on a whim because I had nothing else much to play after I watched the trailer. it seemed very similar to Dark Souls and I was especially intrigued in the spells + sword fighting gameplay.

First thought was, "damn, why is this game so bright?" but the game is beautiful. Some things aren't texturized that well and the game is full of glitches, bugs and inconsistencies but that is what an early access is about. Things will be fixed and as of yesterday, a patch has already been released acknowledging many inconsistencies and imbalances.

Using the mouse to aim the direction of sword swings isn't unheard of, but I think the game does it well, and with the addition of bows, throwing axes, mines and magical spells, it adds alot of depth to the game. Discovering what types of spells go with which swords or abilities is fun and experimental and there are many different combinations to tinker with.

All in all, I think this game has so much potential right now. If FlyLeaps studios could make the sword play a little more responsive, (sometimes, hits do not register), add a duel-mode similar to that of chivalry, and some more content (including more spells, swords, maps etc.) this game will be big hit that will most likely appeal to a competitive community.

This is unplayable. I can't believe they make people pay for this. It has a LOT of potential, but the greed from the devs might screw it up. You should go watch a movie or eat something with your 10-15$. Devs are blacklisted.

This game was nearly unplayable for me. No matter the server one player always had higher ping, and this enabled them to dominate all as there was no way to defend against attacks since the ping delayed you too much for it to even register a block.

It's a awesome concept, but to have a intricate battle system you also need the netcode or servers to back it up.
