the gamplay at the beginning is very simple
however afterwards it will leave you in a pickle

up down left and right
you move with beat in order to move and fight

picking gold after every kill
to trully master this game recquires a steel will

different items and setups on every run
is truly what makes this game diverse and fun

different strategies for different loot
can either make you puny or a bulky brute

the story is simple but the gameplay is rich
so pick up this game and beat up that atonal lich

and whatever you do never play or step afoot
near the becursed and sinister golen lute...

This is an absolutely fabulous game that is well worth your time if you have a sense of rhythm.

1. The soundtrack is amazing. I listen to it in my car and hum it in my head. That alone makes it worth the purchase price.

2. The gameplay rewards patience and persistence. I saw myself fumbling with each new zone as I learned the enemies' moves. What was difficult when I first started is childs' play later. It's a rare game that punishes you for mistakes while teaching you not to make those mistakes again.

3. The replay value that comes from various playable characters is huge. Each character changes the game fundamentally, making for a whole new run style.

Excellent game. Highly recommended.

The most challenging and addictive game I've played so far. If the amount of hours I have on this game don't show how much I love this game and the music, I don't think anything will. Nearly 500 hours and I have yet to 100% the game, but I keep trying because it's so much fun. I definetely recommend this game.

it's... it's just fun. ok. although i've basically completed the entire game (except for the last unlockable secret character) and don't play it much anymore, it's very... fun. it's fluid. the gameplay's fun. the music's good. it's one of the only good rhythm games i've played since rhythm doctor. just buy it.

Boy, This game

I love it, Moving around to the beat is a cool concept, And with the release of all of these soundtracks, There's tons that it naturally offers music-wise

And even if you don't want to listen to any of the five base soundtracks, You can even play to your own music, Which it naturally picks up the beat for

What problems do I have? Well I suppose there's that sometimes the difficulty ramps up Immensely, But that's fun in its own right, Relying on luck helps to give pretty much everyone a chance

It's interesting how it originally arose from time-based turn-based dungeon crawling and now it's all this, This amazingly fun and slightly addicting roguelike rhythmic dungeon crawler that everyone's loving

Now, Some notes for those of you who are a little suspicious of what this game might have to offer

If you don't like following the beat of the music, Well actually you're already prepared for! The bard turns the game from fighting the clock to a straight up strategy game where you can move whenever you want, And everything moves after you do

If the game's too slow, Bolt has you covered, Bard does too really, Bolt semi-requires you to move at twice the speed you'd normally have to move, But if that's too fast just know you're not FORCED to move at double speed (like Coda does)

Now if the game's too fast you're semi-♥♥♥♥ed
You COULD set your own custom music at a pace you're capable of handling, But then you're not using the default music, In case you wanted to do that, But none of the characters allow for halved beats or anything except for the Bard who doesn't have beats

Does the game have diverse foes and 'friends' (as in playable characters here)? Yes, Yes it does
10 characters, Each with their own rules and abilities, And a Lot of enemies to learn and dance with
Zone 4's a really interesting zone to work with with what it gives, But I won't spoil anything for anyone who wants a fresh experience

Does the game challenge you? Oh hell yes it does
This game will beat you down a lot if you don't learn how to give those beatbound beatdowns (haha that almost rhymed)
Remember what Eli taught you, "Every enemy has a predictable pattern, If you learn those patterns, You won't suffer so much as a single scratch", Very important words (Also ♥♥♥♥ the bats, They don't follow a pattern except for "every x beats, i will move some way", So just stay out of their way when necessary)

Is it fun? Depends on what it decides to give you and what you do with those items, Or if you go for no items, And if you actually like the game itself
There are a lot of items and a lot of enemies to contend with, Some of the items will reward you for taking risks, Like sticking to half a heart for immense damage, Some of them will rewards you for not missing a beat (however no items will reward you for missing beats, so keep that in mind)
Other items require you to be strategic or to not rush ahead too much in certain areas, Like the whip, Which gives you a good sideways range, But can get you killed if you're trying to move off hot coals and there are things in just two corners around you, Same with the spear, longswords or bows in directly forwards directions
Something that could make it really fun is challenging yourself in many ways, Including (a way in which it rewards you for doing with an achievement) Not grabbing any items besides coins in two different situations
Now if you don't like the game itself, You're fine to hate it, I'll accept you not liking how it works, Or even how it looks, Atleast you tried

All in all, I really like this game, The diversity in items, weapons, equipment and enemies really is worked in well here, And with it all based around moving to a set speed based on the beat of the music is a very new concept to the dungeon crawler/roguelike area

If you like rhythm games and dungeon crawlers, then this is an awesome combination. I wasn't a particularly big fan of the latter, but turns out I still really enjoy this game.

I'm still nowhere near good enough as I would like to be at it, though...

I have yet to beat even the second stage, but the music alone keeps me coming back every now and again for another dose. :3

A roguelite based on moving with the beat of music! It's very difficult and will take many runs/tries to learn the games mechanics/movements. If you'd like a unique take on this style of game I highly recommend it. It has a decent amount of unlockable content and permanent upgrades/unlocks for new runs. I don't find the game to feel RNG based, so it just comes down to mastering the mechanics and playing well.

I'll be honest, I don't think the rythym element works at all. Actual rythym games have you tapping out a tune, getting the feel for the flow of a piece, but here you simply have to tap to a beat, no variation at all. So what you're left with is a very competent roguelike with great music, gimmicks and enemies where you have to arbitrarily go at a fixed pace - no pausing for a second to take stock of a new room, no zipping through an empty corridor at speed, no control over the flow of the game in any way. It feels stilted and frustrating, failing to understand what makes rythym games a joy to play while simultaneously ruining a great roguelike with a poorly thought out gimmick.

Fortunately the bard is playable right from the start, and with him you aren't locked to the beat and can play as normal, and that makes this worth the price of admission alone. It's a fantastic game at its core, but unfortunately the USP doesn't do it for me at all.

This game has one of the best soundtracks in video game history!
The music alone is worth the money.
Danny Baranowsky is a god PERIOD
And even if you dont like the music, use your own songs.
The gameplay is simple and fun, but you can easily play it for hundreds of hours.
