Create games your way
In Game Dev Tycoon the decisions you make during development really matter. Decide which areas you want to focus on. Does your game need more gameplay or should you focus more on quests? These decisions will have a major impact on the success of your game.

Definitely fun if you like Tycoon games. Personally think it could do with a bit more stuff to do, but it's definitely fun to replay to unlock all the hints, and with all the different mods in the workshop, it doesn't really get boring.

Game Dev Tycoon is a great relaxation game in my opinion. It's the kind of game that you just open up and shut down for a little while as you play. As much fun as it is to make parodies of your favorite games, (or not so favorite games,) the feedback when your game is scored is kinda lacking. Which can be very frustrating when you're first starting the game since you have no idea what affects what for a while. Other than that Game Dev Tycoon really delivers on what it tries to be.

I should have written a review for this a long time ago, but honestly, it's great. It's a great little game developing simulator where you play the role of a programmer starting off in the very early 80s, and you progress through until the modern day, becoming an office lead, and finally a CEO if you make good decisions with your time and money. The barebones game is fantastic without mods, though it can be really frustrating until you get into the swing of things. In this way art seems to mimic life, because you struggle to become wealthy and successful, and even at the top one or two bad decisions can bring it all crashing down.

Sorry to get metaphorical there. If you've not played it yet, I strongly recommend doing so. This is one of those games that you can find yourself enjoying for hours on end for its simplicity and the learning curve of figuring out what combinations make the best games.

My story:
-Makes RTS
-Turns it into a series
-4 games later my friend suggest I make a TPS spin-off
-I make it
-More popular than the RTS
-I make more TPS games and less RTS
-Year 15
-TPS becomes FPS
-5 games later
-Online play released
-Zombies mode released
-Makes FPS into MMO
-Makes 60 expansions
-Year 57
-MMO still on market
-180 expansions
-I get a hardware lab finally
-Console is built to play MMO
-Keeps making expansions for MMO, never makes another game
-Year 106
-100th Anniversary of the series (including RTS, FPS, and TPS)
-Makes console in honour
-Releases grPad edition
-Goes bankrupt
10/10 would have a 108 year long game again

Game Dev Tycoon is a cute and witty take on the video game development process. There is a certain level of addiction the game instills in the player, pushing you to continue to develop new titles or create new businesses to try and squeeze out the best review scores ensuring a steady stream of sales which equates to more cash for your little simulated development company.

The pacing works well and gives you roughly 6-8 hours of play time for the 30 years you get to play. Once you reach the end the game does allow you to keep going, but no more story elements unfold (nothing beyond the PS4 and next Xbox).

If you can find Game Dev Tycoon on sale on Steam it’s certainly worth picking up.

- Addictive gameplay
- Solid design
- It is easy to understand
- Fun real life gaming representations
- You can interact with the community

- Can be very easy
- Flat gameplay

  • Doing pretty well, have a successful little company going, made some okay games
  • Decide to take the leap into making bigger more promising games
  • Begin developing a Space/Simulation procedurally generated game titled "No Man's Lie"
  • Press interviews me, hype up the game as much as humanly possible
  • Continue building hype
  • Hype reaching unprecedented levels
  • Finally finish game, time to squash the ungodly amount of bugs
  • Decide "♥♥♥♥ that, let the people play"
  • Release with bugs untouched
  • Rated 3/10 and now everyone hates my PR guy, Sean Flurry
11/10 game, surprisingly realistic
