[Development] T-14 Class torpedo boat: Single-Engine Seafarer

During wartime, a range of problems were revealed in the industry of Imperial Japan. For example, the Japanese did not have the necessary infrastructure to produce modern petrol engines and thus were incapable of manufacturing powerful torpedo boats, even though there was a great need for this class of vessel. The Mitsubishi company proposed a design for a small single-engine torpedo boat that was equipped with a 920 hp petrol engine. In spite of its small size and low power, this engine was capable of carrying two torpedoes. By decreasing the weight and dimensions of the design as much as possible, the Japanese were able to mass-produce these little torpedo boats. And so the T-14 Class torpedo boat was born – an entirely wooden design, just 15 meters long, and with a displacement of 14-15 tons.

This little Japanese boat was nonetheless well prepared for an encounter with the enemy. Shipbuilders mounted two torpedo tubes, housing Type 44 torpedoes (450 mm caliber). In the stern, there was enough space for six depth charges weighing 160 kg each. However, the boat’s anti-air armament was weak: all she had was a high-caliber 13.2 mm machine gun with a 30-round magazine. The subsequent modifications received the Type 96 25mm Gun. Its magazine could only hold 15 rounds, but a cannon is a cannon. The machine gun had a hard time effectively defending the boat.

I had to write a review about this game because I have noticed the amount of ♥♥♥♥ this game has been getting lately, and with over 1,000 hours, I feel as if I am more than qualified to do so.

Yes, War Thunder is not a perfect game *gasp*, and I too have had my fair share of frustration at times. But when I sit back after a match and think about what I did wrong after being completely ♥♥♥♥ on, nine times out of ten it was my fault. Not angling my armor properly, being impatient and pushing so far up I get surrounded, etc. Thats what I love about this game. When you screw up, it's on you.

People are quick to cry wolf on the russian bias. Those people are also the ones who don't angle, flank, and mindlessly take on a heavy tank from the front. This game requires a plethora of skill which you will eventually require through practice and perserverance. Learn your tank/plane! Know your weaknesses and your strengths! This will help you tramendously in any situation. If instant gratification is something you are looking for, there's always COD.

Gaijin does a wonderful job updating the game fairly fast, and you can see they really do care about their community. They keep us updated and add new content almost every other month. They also do an excellent job hyping the following updates, giving players something to look forward to in the near future *COUGH COUGH BOATS*

Basically if you want me to cut the ♥♥♥♥ and get straight to the point of this review...

*Do not play this game if you are easily angered or impatient. YOU WILL NOT SURVIVE.

*If you are new to WT, give it a try for yourself instead of looking at the comments. This community really likes to whine. Don't let the comments plague your experience.

Most importantly, have fun, try not to think too much, and I'll see you in the skies!! o7

- Fun to play in the beginning run for each tier
- Graphics are beautiful
- Detail on battlegrounds and tanks look and feel in place along with many tanks and planes to choose from
- Occassionally you get to see great teamwork and feel like you're accomplishing something for once

- Once you get to higher tiers you start to notice the horrific balancing issues of always being up-tiered by things your tank cannot even penetrate
- When reach the 6.0 Battle Rating vehicles, it can take up to literal weeks to research a single tank or plane unless you wish to spend real money buying your way to it instead to skip the grind (basically 'buy our stuff or be stuck forever' ordeal)
- Ever see a t-34 Go 0-60kmh in 5 seconds with a turret speed that can triple any other tank at it's rank? (Oblivious Russian Bias post)
- Always that one ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ teammate in spawn who kills half your crew in realism
- When playing with friends who have other faction tanks than yours, the average que time can span up to 15 minutes across US and EU for a realism match, only to drive for 5 minutes, 1 shot killed, and not have enough points to respawn so you have to angrily tuck tail back to the main menu and wait for your friends to die as well for another good 30 minutes before you start the whole process over again.
- As for the tank arcade, the war thunder definition of arcade is to show everyone's location precisely on the map and play hide and peek with 30 other ♥♥♥♥♥ in a waiting game to see who will have the balls enough to cap something

I like the game yeah. But would i recommend it to friends? No. Save yourself the rage, grinding, money, and time

While playing this game it occured to me that the more time i spent partaking in the tedium, and the grind, the less fun i had. Initially, tank fights were very fun to play - an experience (one of few) i was able to take away from this game that was positive. It was simple - you shoot them and they shoot you.

As i ascended in the ranks of both russia and US tanks (3.0-5.0), that same ideal stayed relativley intact; some tanks became more armoured than others but it wasn't impossible to kill them and a miracle shot wasn't something unheard of. There were clear trade offs with the tanks - Some offered more speed with a better gun, but less armour as a whole. Some were more armoured with decent speed but a crappier gun, and it goes on. No tank was without weakness in major areas, and the areas were very clear. This added a bit of interesting gameplay and it helped me learn how to turn my tanks in certain ways to block shots, or where to shoot tanks to get the maximum amount of damage and i reveled in that. It was interesting gamplay, and it was very immersive. I had spent a large portion of my time playing War Thunder at this metaphorical 'sweet spot'.

Then i got my first 5.7 tank and i started to get matched with 6.0 and 6.3. An occasional 6.7 would appear, as well. I would position myself no different than before and die instantly. I would fire away at tanks shot after shot, trying so desperatley to find a place to hit but die quickly after i was spotted after causing minimal damage. Most times, i would find fair matches but it was also the unfair matches i remember most vividly. I kept telling myself that once I was on equal ground, it would be more fun again. It kept me going to repeat that.

Then i got my first 6.0 tank. Long gone were the times where i could just shoot at other tanks and cause damage. I was finding myself dying over and over even though i had been doing nothing different than before. Constanty dying to a single shot even though my shots never got the chance to even penetrate. When i did get a kill, it wasn't satisfying. It felt owed to me - and after spending the better part of 10-15 minutes driving my slow tank, i felt that it should've too.

After some research on why my performance has suffered so badly, i learned that the game completley changes at 6.0+ with no warning to it's players. Instead of having huge killzones, tanks now had tiny weak spots to shoot and you were damned if you couldn't hit them. Some tanks were still thinly armored with guns equal to those of the slow cumbersome variety. There was no way to win for me but to sit and ambush or invest in these tanks that demanded tedium to drive. If i managed to get to a shooting zone that was profitable for me, I ended up getting bombed.

The game was stale. It wasn't fun to play anymore. The tanks - they were wildly cool. As an enthusiast, i was thrilled at the idea of getting to drive them. It's unfortunate that the game becomes so unbearable at the higher tiers becuase i was really looking forward to playing a simple tank game like it was when i started. I wanted more than World of Tanks... but i also wanted less than the complexity this offered. I only hope that in the future they make a balancing pass at the game. And i sure hope that the ships don't come out like this did.

I havent even started on the grinding process of this game. You will not get far without premium or a tank that costs money.

TL,DR: Very poor vehicle balance, heavy bias towards soviet vehicles in ground forces, double standards in selective realism features that tend to favour or disfavour certain nations. Not Reccomended.

I have been playing this game on and off since closed beta, if I remember correctly, and had high hopes for it. Not only it held a lot of promise gameplay-wise, but it also looked gorgeous, with great visual details to vehicles. While not a very big fun of ww2 airplanes, I awaited Ground Forces with anticipation, to become a more history focused and sim oriented version of world of tanks. I have been playing GF since closed beta and originally it was a real blast, especially simulation mode. And while game had a lot of problems back then, including balance, damage model, corridor maps and the like, the potential for a greatest tank game for ppl, that want something more deep and historically accurate, was there. Unfortunately it was not meant to last. As a lot ppl noticed back then, and still do up to this day, game is heavily biased towards soviet vehicles, while german vehicles recieve disproportionate amount of hate from developers, and it only gets worse over the years. What was attempted to be excused as bugs, or overpenetration mechanics couple of years ago, nowadays became a norm, and it seems it was intended even back then, in gaijeen attempt to appease their main player base, which are russians, to slow a player decline from game. Just a few examples of disbalance and nonsense that happens virtually every battle:

Balance issues:
German tanks battlerating, which puts ww2 german tanks against post war tanks, and generally pits german tanks against opponents that were introduces much later in the war, thus virtually making all german tanks inferior to their opponents. What the point in tiger 1 100mm armor, when it has to fight late war tanks from 1944+ which can pen it from any range at any angle, while tiger keep getting "no damage" even from t34-85s relatively thin hull...
Gaijin supposedly strives for realism, by adding armor coefficents for later german tanks, to simulate lover quality late war german armor, yet they ignore things like tank optics quality difference for example, which all ultimately plays in favour of soviet tanks. Another example of this is British solid AP shells whith which you virtually has to individually kill every crew member of enemy tank to destroy it, which translates into 5-6 shots to be able to destroy enemy tank, and i f its a soviet tank, then you can count on the fact that after your first shot, you will be one shotted by glorious soviet gun, unless ivan is too drunk and miss you.
In realistic battles, where teams are being balanced by nations, germans loose 9 out of 10 battles, which speaks for itself.
Most maps are made that way, that there are almost no long range engagements, like it used to be on old Prokhorovka and Mozdok maps, which again greatly plays in favour of soviet vehicles, which are more close combat orientated.
Soviet glorious AP shells that 8 out of 10 times oneshot your tank by killing all the crew and detonating ammo racks, while it takes several similar shells to take out soviet tank, which is illogical considering how cramped soviet tanks were on inside.
If soviet glorious AP shell did not one-shot you, then it will somehow crit gunner, driver, and your gun at the same time, this happens 99 hits out of 100, where german tank manages to survive the first shot.

Nonsense that you will encounter almost every battles.
Outsmarting and flanking enemy t34 on your Pz4 F2, making a sideshot in a hull, only to see "no damage", while guy notice you only after that, casually turns his gun and oneshots you without much offeort for aiming...
Outsmarting and outflanking enemy t34 with your tiger 1, shooting twice from short range at engine compartment TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NO OVERPENETRATION (as fanboys and gaijin like to claim) - after second shot with no damage, enemy finally spots that simething wrong, and drives away.... catching him 20 seconds later, direct hull shot along the tank hull axis, no damage, while he shoots back on the move and oneshots your tiger.... just great, so much about skill, but seems not a requirment for soviet tankers.
This list can go on and on to eternity, because as I said, nonsense like this happens almost every battle.

It is really sad to see a game with such great potential turning into ♥♥♥♥ by its own devs, trying to appease a part of community, so school boys and always drunk Ivans and Nikolays can have their fun at expense of other players, especially german tankers if we take realistic battles national balance into account. While I understand their desire to keep players in game, I think favouring one part of the playerbase over the rest is a bad call in a long run, and only need leads to game stagnation at best. So all in all, I cant reccomend this game in its current state, which seems to be only deteriorating over time, and unlikely to get any better. I will be cheking this game every half year or so, to see if there are any positive changes in game mechanics and balance, and might change this review in the future, but for now - NOT RECOMMENDED.

The game is great and amazing but, theres just many things that sets this game back.

I get dissapointed by the fact how unbalanced match making is at high tiers and including others. It becomes apparent that some factions are overall superior in performance over the others. Combine that with bad grind you get a really frustrating experience. But the primary issue for me is the already ridiculous grind and now they are increasing it even more.

Heres how grinding works, you play the game, kill enemies perform objectives, you get experience points (RP) and free ingame currency (Lions). On average, matches last 10-20 minutes and depending on performance, if you perform decent you get about 2-3k RP and 5-10k Lions in a mid tier match- high tier match. If you perform stellar you could get 4-5k RP and 10-40k Lions. If you do poorly you might gain less than 1k RP in a poor match that could last to half hour and possibly lose Lions since you have to repair your tanks after match. If you do well, you will mostly perform average in matches. You can only research one aircraft and tank of each factions tech tree one at a time by playing each faction one at a time. The amount of RP it takes to unlock a vehicle starts from a meager 2k RP(stock vehicle without upgrade modules, would double if fully upgraded) to a whopping 380k RP(fully stock without upgrades, would costs much more than the amount to fully upgrade it!).

As you grind your way up, the level of grind becomes exponentially harder and harder. When I check the stats for a Chieftain Mk3, a max tier vehicle, it costs 380k RP to unlock the tank and 990k Lions to purchase itself but another 494k RP to fully upgrade it!

Here is my calculation for unlocking a max tier vehicle at 380k RP and +1.28 million Lions for purchase, if you average about 2-3k RP and 5-10k Lions every 15-20 minutes. You must play around 190 decent matches to unlock just one max tier tank on the tech tree, that means about 3.8k minutes or about 63 hours of ingame time to unlock 1 max tier tank alone and about 83 hours to have the credits to purchase it. To put into perspective I have 90 hours total in 2 weeks. Unlocking and buying the tank is just the beginning, vehicles are so not competitive unless fully upgraded and it costs 28k-40k RP to unlock each modules in a max tier vehicle, the only way to grind those modules is you have to play the vehicles to grind them. Since I spent money on this game to reduce grind, I could cut the grind rate down by half.

Ive spent over +$150 dollars on this game and thats enough to buy 3 advanced title games or about 7x $20 steam games. Ive been playing this game ever since 2012,before this game was even added on steam, so my hours does not include out of steam play time. I did managed to unlock and get several max tier vehicles, but once i get to the top, I also get frustratetd at the imbalanced gameplay.

The thing about this update is they added tons of new vehicles, primarily top tiers. and they added millions of RP amount straight into the tech tree without reducing the total RP amount in the tech tree. The grind level is getting ridiculously out of control and should be reduced by cutting down the amount to unlock new vehicles! Ill tell you this, it takes up to a year to grind and unlock a max tier vehicle if youre F2P, what they did is that they added another years worth of grind straight into this update, and most of the vehicles i see in this game, most of the players will never the chance to drive one, i can assure that.

If you want to drive all these tanks, I can tell you my $150 was just not even close to enough. :(
From this, you can see, the developers behind this game do not want you to drive the best vehicles unless you pay, other wise itll take you years to get them.

Devs seems to only care about making money by adding new features instead of fixing bugs thats has been more than a year old. Often the new additions to this game are often come with bugs themselves.

For example, some tanks have none disappearing ammo racks thats not even been fixed ever since addition of british vehicles. theres also a bug where destructible obstacles in the game keeps respawning after getting destroyed, when you run them over, they will cause your tank to start twitching uncontrollably if you are on them which could have huge negative impact on you when you try to aim. sometimes your tank would also twitch uncontrollably when on rough/uneven terrain. And there are countless more bugs out there thats been reported for over a year now and no steps have been done to fix them. instead Gaijin is just focusing on adding big updates instead of fixing these bugs. If you can devote so much time on adding big features, then why arent you spending anytime fixing the numerous game breaking bugs?

Its a relativelly realistic game with LOTS of tanks, planes and soon ships. Also it has great graphics&sounds and LOW requirments. I dont recommend it THOUGH BECAUSE it has almost no balance, 0% historical accuracy in battles (Tigers are playing against Caernavons) and weird bugs ( OftenShots from a King Tiger rickoshet a T-34 with no angle or any explanation) and it is also considered by many Russian Bias (it has Russian Developers and Russian tanks are a bit stronger than they should). IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A REALISTIC WW2 GAME THIS IS NOT FOR YOU !!! In any other case you might like it.

In its current state I can not reccomend the game, by any means. Cheating runs rampant due to the lack of an anticheat, and gaijin's insistance on burying their head in the sand on the subject and pretending said hacks dont exist, a clear and present bias, as well as poor matchmaking make this game an obviously poor choice of time and money.

Until they fix the faction biases, the unrealistic and at times laughable balance choices, the horrendous matchmaking, and acquire a good anti cheat program, this review will remain negative.

^^ To show my profile as it doesn't align with the time played on steam.

WT looks gorgeous, and it once was a promising game with a thriving community and a developer willing to bring the game and the community forward.
Then game update 1.29, it ended the golden age of WT and brought us the silver age. Not nearly as good as the game was, but you know all for the sake of "beta" status most players went along and continued playing. 1.35 came along and is still to this day considered the best update. But that was autumn 2013. 3 years ago.

Since 1.37 the betastatus has ended and the game is officially released. With that came a totally toxic gaming developer, mod/admin community and more and more restrictions on the forums. Which would have been manageable if the game wasn't brough to its knees...which it did, obviously.

Bottom line, WT was promising to be a historical and graphical astounding game but it has been completely destroyed by its developer and toxic mods/admins. The player numbers have dropped from 120k online to 40k-ish which tells you something as well.

If you want to get started, I can't recommend this game anymore, it has become too much of a moneygrab (the recent navy beta that has been introduced is the new utter low Gaijin has fallen too) where if you have to start right now, you'll be frustrated after less than an hour. And there's no reason why you would get frustrated over a game.

Used to be good, got destroyed by its developer and mod/admin. Chances are very slim that Gaijin will ever unlock its full potential.

Nice graphics
Completely unbalanced.
No historical accuracy.
The worst WWII vehicles are the best in this game.
T34-85 is the best tank here so, if you want to win, play USSR.
German tanks are almost useless.
This is a game of communist propaganda.

I want to love this game, its just impossible for me....

Apparently this game's mathmaking mode decides who you play with according to their plane rank, not their actual level. This is my biggest problem because imma noob whos trying to learn how to play the damn game. However, every game i try to play has veterans or high ranks in them. This tottally ruins the game because I cant do ♥♥♥♥ against them. I really want to play this game, but every match leaves me with frustration.

Also, Im like the most unluckiest bastar because I never get these high ranked players on my team. For example I have about 230 games played but only won 40..............da ♥♥♥♥

This game is incredible...it has gread graphics...planes are available in all veritas. With pros and cons... figure out yourself which one suits your style of air combat....armor, speed..guns..all your free choise!
Yes you can pay for it...but you dont have to in order to have fun.
..and yes, it might take ages to get real high class jets, without premium (even with...if your not the guy that pays for research), but is a jet really what your here for? You decide. Remember, all planes can be gained without money...it just takes its time.

I dont know why people say this game is going down. For me its a game ever lasting...
It supports joystick feed in...graphics up to movie style..good for recording and squad possibilities. Never underastimate a trio communicating and working together!

Me myself play solo...end fun never dies ;)

Its for free...so why be sceptic?!

-3 modes of gameplay: Arcade, Simulator, and Realistic

-Russian planes fly like UFOs, even in the most realistic mode
-No nazis. Only german side ;( (but still acurate about uniforms and vehicles)
-early American helmets look like ripped out from Gulf´s War. Not really historically accurate
-AND THE MOST IMPORTANT: If you dont put a real coin, you will take AGES to research the late tiers

I picked up this game about a month ago and have already gotten tired of playing it. Perhaps I will come back to it in the future, but for now it just seems like a tiresome, broken game.
First off, let me say that the gameplay itself is remarkable. It is by far the most fun tank/aviation combat in the market right now. There are so many different elements to combat that make the game very dynamic. Even with a somewhat small collection on maps, it is hard to be bored while emersed in game combat. Considering that it is a free game where pay-to-play options do not instantly grant a victory speaks wonders for the members of the community that are just seeking a couple hours of gameplay from time to time.
However, the thing that ruins this game is the matchmaking. While it is a pain to fight against higher-tiered enemies, it also comes down the experience of the community you are fighting against. War Thunder seems to have an issue where it's main audience are the people who have had the game since release. That means that they spend a large amount of time and resources trying to keep those experienced players interested and in the game. This does mean that the game is updated fequently with the introduction of new vehicles (they are even adding naval combat at some point in the future), it also leaves the new player with a distinct disadvantage. Any newbie is expected to fight against players who have been playing for much longer in enemy tanks that they may or may not be familiar with the strengths or weaknesses of. This then leads to the disgruntled player leaving in frustration, and adding to the ever-continuing paradox of maintaining the older community. This crusade against new players then limits the amount of competitive and entertaining combat, leading to boredom of the experienced players, which leads to War Thunder adding more and more vehicles and maps in the hopes of keeping them interested.
I was also having issues playing in that there were constant connection bugs and internet issues while playing this game. I am fine with the occasional disconnection from a match, or the lag spikes where my tank would spaz out and wind up in the open where I would get shot or where my plane would fly at insane speeds into the ground. However, War Thunder treats a disconnection like player left the game intentionally, and locks you out of your tanks/aircraft for a few minutes. It would be fine if you could cycle between Army and Avation combat at that time, but instead you are locked to that screen watching a ticker go down until you are able to play again.
I am sure that doesn't and won't happen to everyone, but it is just one example of many goofy bugs and gameplay issues that inhabit this game. At release, this game was probably more finished-feeling than it is after four years.

I feel like this game doesn't get enough credit in the Steam community. It's all CS:GO and Dota 2 but this is one of the best games on Steam in my opinion. If your looking for some free games to play or just a good time with friends then this game is for you. Play it however you want, you'll love it no matter what!

It's a fun game, it has more realism than gameplay, it's a hell grind of a game though, also becareful your eyes might be crossed when looking for enemy tanks.

Many people over the years have tried to make a MMO Combat Game that stands out from the rest. This is probably the greatest of those. This game has delighted me over the years it has been around. I enjoy every second of this Leonardo Da Vinci of a game, whether im bursting ammunition racks in my King Tiger, or swooping down like a magpie at AAA guns in my HO 229. I Highly reccomend this game to anybody who comes across it.
