Testing new respawn mechanics for ground battles

Dear friends,

We would like to invite you to take a part in the testing of the new respawn mechanics for ground battles. Tests will be held in the “Events” tab as, [Domination] “Advance to the Rhine” in the RB game mode.

How it works:
This game mode portrays the clash of two armies. Both armies have a specific setup of vehicles which are distributed randomly among the players. If all the vehicles are allocated out, it will not be possible to spawn.

The list of vehicles available for use in the event:

  • Jagdpanzer 38(t)
  • Jagdpanther
  • Panzer IV/70(V)
  • Pz.IV J
  • Tiger II (H)
  • Tiger E
  • Panther A
  • Panther G
  • StuG III G
  • M18 GMC
  • M26
  • M36 GMC
  • M4A1 (76) W
  • M4A2 (76) W
  • M4A2
  • M4A3 (105)
  • M4A3E2 (76) W
Important features of the mechanics:
  • Vehicles that are chosen will be done so from the list randomly, and the probability of getting a particular model depends on the remaining amount of vehicles in the team.
  • For example, the team only has two types of vehicles, the ‘Tiger II (H)’ with the amount of 99 units, and the ‘Panther G’ with the amount of 1 unit. Therefore, the chance of receiving the Tiger II (H) will be 99%.
  • From the start, players will have 3 vehicles, one of which will be replaced when a vehicle is lost in battle after each respawn (there will always be 3 vehicles available to the player).
  • Players will have 3 vehicles available. Vehicles that are available at the same time can be either a single model or indeed different models. For example: it is possible that a player will have the Tiger II (H) twice, along with one Panther G.
Conditions of participation and other information:
  • The Event will be available from 13:00 GMT on the 24th of August.
  • Event [Domination] “Advance to the Rhine” is in the “Events and Tournaments” tab.
  • To participate in the event you should have researched at least one ground vehicle of the 3rd rank for USA or Germany.

[Gamescom2016] The Summary of Gamescom 2016

The biggest game show in Europe - Gamescom 2016 - has come to its end in the German city of Cologne. Hundreds of thousands people arrived there to check out what’s new in the world of computer games. The Gaijin Entertainment booth offered 2 new projects.

In Crossout, thousands of players had an opportunity to try out the role of an engineer and a soldier in the tournament and brand new modes in the post-apocalyptic online action game. Intensely commanded battles and unprecedented fighting for survival gathered crowds of fans at the stage.

Also Gamescom visitors were some of the first who could watch and play our main premiere feature - War Thunder naval battles. Half of the booth was constructed as the deck and cabin of a vessel, under the shadow of an iron mast there was a special zone that looked like an undercover bridge with a real; 40-mm AA-gun on the deck in the bow. Naval battles in 3 vs. 3 format took place on the map that was designed specifically for the show. All participants could choose vessels from different nations, you can read more about them in our Devblogs. Later, during the closed beta-test the amount of available craft will increase, also the maps will grow bigger and will become suitable for 10 vs. 10 format battles.

Also there was a magnificent show with awesome prizes and gifts prepared for our visitors. Every 30 minutes there was a giveaway of the various prizes on offer - from souvenirs, Crossout CBT and War Thunder naval battles CBT access codes to high-end gaming devices from Roccat and graphic cards and computers from ZOTAC.

Players could watch what was happening at our booth on a live stream on our official Twitch channels. We have been streaming from day one until the very end of the show and every day our players were able to get a sneak peek on the new vessels in War Thunder as well as win valuable prizes. On Saturday our team showcased the gameplay of naval battles on a map that was designed specifically for Gamescom.

The blistering torpedo and fast attack boats not only engaged other vessels but also had to watch the skies for attacking enemy aircraft. You can watch the recorded battles on our twitch channel.

So, Gamescom 2016 is now over but there is a lot of interesting stuff waiting for you. This year War Thunder players will join the closed testing of the brand new part of our game - the naval battles. The players and the development team both will decide together how naval battles in War Thunder will look like.

If you want guaranteed access to the CBT you may purchase one of the two special packs: either the famous American PT-109 torpedo boat that John Kennedy captained during WW2, or Soviet Project 1124 motorboat armed with the infamous “Katyusha” rocket launcher system and a T-34 tank turret mounted forward. Be one of the first players to try the naval battles of War Thunder!

I play tanks. This game is downright ridiculous.

What is the point of having tank battles if you are going to have planes running around killing tanks as they please?

What's the point of having capture zones if the clock is going to run out before you can actually get to them. Seriously it all comes down to who rushes to their favorite camping zone first.

Waste of time and effort. Unbalanced not just in the factions but in the maps and how the gameplay is thought out. Just frustrating and rage inducing. Almost always unfair in some way.

Oh and you can turn the damn grass off. And the game is very reliant on spotting. Shows how much love the devs show to the game and balance.

Damn shame, could have been a good experience.

War Thunder, in my opinion, is all about skill. Yeah there are some planes that shouldn't be fighting each other, like P-51D is obviously going to overpower A6M3s.
Russian bias does not exist (except jets, which I usually never play). You just need to know how to fight them and you'll be dropping Russians like flies.
I'm not really sure about tanks. Don't play much tanks.
Just know you're vehicle and know theirs.

let me make it clear right now and forward upfront

i play war thunder
im a skinner on live.warthunder
i am tier 4 in tanks and tier 5 in aircraft
i have some good vehicles
i play this game the most out of alot of games that i have(i have over 1000 hours into this game)
i brought premium accounts before and i will continue if i feel like im having fun in game

but time to be honest
for newcomers, its a HUGE pain to learn the game
there are LOTS of craziness that happens in tier 2-3 that makes me question why people still play certain modes
i honestly still play the game because i like the look of the jets and want to continue making skins for aircraft

rant in 3 2 1

dont play tanks at all, just dont unless your using russian tanks. i use my Tiger 2 in Ab and Rb and have had the issues of being one shotted by a freaking russian op or uptiered tank for no reason at all.
and the games in tank RB are NOT, I REPEAT NOT REALISTIC WHAT SO EVER. doing research i found out that in real life there were tanks that can be reloaded in seconds but it takes AGES(IMO) to reload tanks. tanks used to be fun and quite enjoyable when you could ACCUALLY SHOT STUFF. now its like full of camper and bugs and invisible enemy's and HORRIBLE AWFUL FRAMERATE SPIKES. overall tanks are not to be mess with at all. and i joke around and like to yell "RUSSIAN BIAS" when getting killed by russian vehicles in both modes and do it when i get kills with russian tanks. i agree that tanks have some sort of "Bias" when it comes to russian tanks. and i want to see it get fixed

OH BOY HERE WE GO WITH THIS. Ok as a high tier player i LOVE JETS, at the moment of this review i have only american jets(i might update this review as time goes on) and i feel like the jet matches are fun for what they are. the balance is a bit off for jets BUT imo its not to bad to the point were its like uptier v. low tier like with tanks. BUT O MY GOSH THE RELEASE OF THE TU-4 HAS UPSETTED US ALL OF AND WAS A PAIN TO GO AGAINST WHEN RELEASED IN 1.59. it was AN UNSTOPPABLE BIAS AND HAD TO BE FIX IMMIEDITALY. since 1.61 however the tu-4 has(imo of course) feel like it has been nerfed enough to be able to kill it. plane br for tier 3-4 is jacked up to the point were its sad to be on the tier 3 side of things. but overrall i think they should focus on the balancing a bit more

now the things i downright hate about the game

1)not being able to see others user skins
*yes i know its for keeping kids who play this game safe from the nude/rule 34 skins and other stuff but
if games like(for example Rfactor to those who know about it) has it where you can see user skins why not war thunder

*like i stated i am a high tier tank player but that doesnt mean it's fun

3) balance for tanks

again this is mostly on tanks. enough is enough gaijin i dont need you to have a country stronger then the other.

im tired of flying my b29 only to get shot by invisible jets gaijin. also i ran into a few aimbots in the game and think that people should get this TRUELY known and fix

1)yes it has it's flaws
2)it has its "bias" that is so fustrating it makes you throw your stuff(i broke a controller of mine and had to fix it playing tanks with it)
3)the game needs balance gaijin listen to us
4)ability to see user skins
6)the ablity to use our convertable rp without paying money(like seriously that is just stupid DX)

i however as a ,high tier player, recommend the game. play it to have fun BUT dont play it and over analize the game. if you spend money try to be the best. but overall play it for fun and with friends. this game in it state has had it flaws for the longest time and needs to be addressed BUT its your decision.

and as for me? i will play it as long as it is fun

TL:DR. play it for fun, even with it's issues

hope this helped

Just to give you an insight of the company that runs this game, Gaijin Entertainment:
Some months ago the incredibly unsuccessful E100 tournament took place.
Players where hyped like ****, A FREAKING E100 IS BEING ADDED
What people didnt know was that the E100 would only be available to less than 1200 people that won these tournaments, for which you needed to pay to get tickets to play.
The tournament was badly set up and full of hackers (Shhh Gaijin doesnt want us to know there are hackers)
Of course thousands of people complained in the forums, including myself.
Most of my comments where removed on the context of ''flaming'', some of those comments complained about the removals.
Shortly after this, they introduced a rule that didnt allow people to post in the forums, unless they had played a certain number of battles prior to posting.
After receiving a warning for challenging moderation (lol) I got a message from a fellow forum user:
''The rule came about shortly after they removed Simulator Battles from the game. It wasn't to keep the trolls at a minimum, it was to reduce the workload of the moderators after such a poor decision.

Scarper and Pacifica (two senior mods) are megalomaniacs. Their egos get in the way of moderation. Their extra comments on closed threads are often insulting and almost always condescending. They show the community no respect at all and I believe it is only a symptom of Gaijin policy. This was evident in the Youtube incident (if you are familiar I won't elaborate, but if you want to know more I'll elucidate)''
More into this:
Mods from all around the globe are likely to downvote this, and I doubt this review will ever be viewed by many, but please, stay away from this toxic company while you can.

Don't be fooled by the "Mostly Positive" rating that Steam gives War Thunder. All those review, all 58,000 of them, are left over from the glory days of War Thunder when Gaijin actually listened. Now, the community is toxic, the hacks are real, the devs censor everything, Russian Bias, and the matchmaker is ♥♥♥♥. Good job Gaijin, you killed your own game. Now this review will be censored by Gaijin by downvoting it as unhelpful.

Yeah, I know you Gaijin. I've also seen how your mods interact with the community on the forums. I saw a comment by one mod that closed a thread, calling the writer of the thread "obstinate, ignorant, arrogant and wrong. But most of all you are a complete and total a$$hole.- FACT."- Pacifica, Senior moderator. The mods call this "Protecting the community" AKA, censorship that would make Stalin blush. Don't believe me? I'll leave the link below but you can't see it without an account. Imagine that. This isn't an isolated case either, it runs RAMPANT on the forums.

All the community does is try to help out, telling you that there are third-party softwares in the game, telling you that you f***ed up the matchmaking, and you just censor them. You also allow Russian bias in the game.

I can tell you right now that T-34s had sh*tty transmissions that didn't allow them much maneuverability. In the game, they move around like they could fly. You guys screwed up. And to all of those die-hard WT players (and I know that there are very few of you now) who are about to comment that I'm an autistic 12 year old, I will teach you actual history, delete your comment, and report you. The community is just plain toxic, by the way.

The gameplay is decent and even that's a stretch. There's very obvious Russian bias from teir 2 up and the FPS is just downright terrible. The matchmaker is nonexsistant. Theoretically, Gaijin has a matchmaker in place that uses a system they call the "Battle Rating" system. A tank is assigned a certain number like the Tiger H1 at 5.7. The tank will play any tank that is one above or below this number. So you are being thrown into matches with teir 4s and teir 2s. Matchmaking is also not based on skill which screws over experianced players with ♥♥♥♥ teams. I've been on 14 battle losing streaks before, all because I got the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ team that was destroyed in seconds. Gaijin also abuses the BR system, putting Russian tanks in slightly lower BRs to give them much better matchmaking than they actually deserve. I don't know anything about their aviation section but I know that it's just as biased and terribly matched as their ground forces.

And here's where I get downvoted by every mod that Gaijin ever had to keep this information out of the forums. At least I get to laugh at them and say, "Well, I knew it"

Here's the link to that forum thread that you can't see without an account. Convienent right? http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/290640-community-relations-or-why-i-have-to-post-in-off-topic-discussions/

Why negative:

1) Reload time is being changed by developers they way they want, completely independently from real conditions. I am not sure if its still like this now, but 1 year ago m18 hellcat had 8 sec reload and Sherman with the same cannon had 5 seconds reload, for example.

2) Ammoracks are just broken, and broken intentionally. On many tanks ammorack is blowing up realistically in most of cases when its hit by a shell, like it should. But A LOT of tanks with very high caliber guns (like Maus, IS-2/3/4, KV-2, etc) for some stupid reasons have nearly unexplodable ammoracks. You penetrate them and hit ammorack directly, several times in different places, result? it just becomes black.

3) Finally, absolutely utterly destroyed and annihilated balance on 5.7-8.0 Battle Rating.
Before, like 1-2 years ago, War thunder had a lot lower historical limit on vehicles, the most late vehicles that were in the game (and had the highest BR - 7.7 or 8.0) were IS-4m, King tiger 105mm, panther 2, Early T-54 (it didnt have all the best late shells) and so on. Basically the latest vehicles in the game were designed in late 1940s or early 50s, and battle rating did make sense. However time was going and developer decided to add later vehicles with more advanced technologies, they started adding later T-54, T-10m, M60, Leopard 1, these tanks had HEAT shells with up to 400mm pen and sabot shells with a bit lower. And it would be COMPLETELY NORMAL, if ONLY they would give them PROPER BR, BR that would be way beyond 8.0. But guess what? there is still not even a single ground vehicle with BR higher than 8.0, even though they have jets with BR 9.0. Probably the guy who defines ground veh balance cant count more than 8 just like gaben cant count more than 2. This becomes even worse now since they are adding more late vehicles like T-62 and ATGM vehicle for every side (controllable anti tank missiles). This entire mess is happening while there are such tanks as IS-2 and King Tiger on BR 6.7. Just think about it, regular late ww2 tanks are fighting with 60s vehicles with ATGMs, sabots and HEAT shells. 20 focking years difference. They even put one premium tank with ATGMs on br 6.7.
As result of this completely idiotic balancing, many vehicles became completely unplayable, or barely playable in only some of situations. Adding tanks from 60s on BRs 7.7 and 8.0 caused lowering down BRs of some earlier vehicles like IS-3 and IS-4. Now we have vehicles that absolutely suck against vehicles with just a bit higher BR they can meet in battle, but at the same time they are annihilating vehicles that are having a bit lower BR than they.

Hello and welcome to War Thunder, or as close friends call it: Masochist's paradise...

Now the game currently features two seperate game genres: planes and tanks. Planes are alright, but it gets repetitive fast and I didn't get past Tier 3 planes (out of 5 tiers) as the gameplay just became repetitive and boring.

On the other hand, tanks kept me going past that but I'm feeling the hate for good players more and more. Let me explain, but I'll first list the positives.

In many aspect the tanks part resembles alot any other typical multiplayer FPS. I enjoyed the almost lag free experience of single shot projectiles and big targets with critical modules that are either alive or damaged, rather than the health pool of a target that suffers damage per second and can be killed in miliseconds making lag a real issue. Here, there's none of that and it is refreshing to play a multiplayer game without having to blame lag. Also, everything besides player input is calculated on the server which makes most if not all cheats inexistant. A real positive and a rarity in free 2 play games. On top of that, WT has the most stable game I've ever had the luxury to play. Content is ample and regular updates keep adding more vehicles and occasionally maps.

Now that the good is listed, what is left? Alot of injustice and frustration! With tanks it is critical that when facing an oponent, your shell has sufficient penetration to punch through the enemy's armour. Therefore to create a balanced environment where you manage to be on even grounds with tanks that are fundamentally different, Gaijin, the developper, decided to attribute a battle rank (BR) to every vehicle. This is great as you can then balance the game by matching vehicles of identical BR together!

Except it isn't. Gaijin then allows for the matchmaking to join people with vehicles that have up to 1 BR value in difference (the entire scale goes from 1 to 8). On top of the possibility to meet someone who is a full BR higher than you, they might have all the upgrades unlocked on their vehicle while you have just purchased yours and have therefore no upgrades. Upgrades provide extra armour, suvivability and penetration with better shells. So sometimes it is actually impossible to penetrate the enemy's armour, while their gun can one shoot you, no matter where they hit, even on your toughest armour.

Now if this would happen randomly (which the devs insist on being the case) it wouldn't be so bad, as you'd be facing stronger and weaker oponents on a 50/50 ratio. Except that doesn't happen. Gaijin also says that the BR range is to ensure short match searching times, except it isn't. After 400h of playing I've seen two clear and unmistakable correlations appear:

1) the better you play the more often you get matched against stronger vehicles, the worse you play the weaker your enemies. I used to have an efficiency of almost 70% (average ratio of your position in team for all matches played) and I kept being on the short end of the BR range. Then I started to lose purposefully and reached almost 50% efficiency. Now I get the 50% ratio of stronger and weaker enemies.

2) search times are shorter when you get put in a game in which your skill balances out the MM algorythm. When the game needs you to face higher enemies as you've been playing well and it finds a game almost instantly, you're sure to be facing stronger enemies. The longer time the search takes, the weaker your opponents get as the MM has to diverge from what it actually wants to do: face you against strong enemies. And I assume the opposite is also correct.

So, just as many other multiplayer games that try to balance their games, War Thunder tells their weak players that they can still face veterans easily, while good players get constantly handicapped in order to work double as hard as the others to progress. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't an economical agenda behind it as well, but you think of it what you will. But this is a f2p game after all.

WT has a healthy community in numbers (otherwise it's probably the most egoistic and selfish community I've ever encountered with allies pushing you into enemy fire and other dishonorable stuff) and therefore the "shortening search times" excuse doesn't add up. Especially when I spent two weeks playing tanks with BR 3.7 , 4.0 and 4.3 while always facing enemies with 4.7, and when I finally started playing with 4.7, suddenly all those other games I played ranging from 3.7 to 4.7 vanished and I started playing against 5.7 BR tanks most of the time. Now you tell me if that isn't some BS right there.

Multiplayer games need to stop holding hands and let good players be good and bad players improve and get better. If they don't manage, then multiplayer games are not for them. There's always solo. I for once am getting increasingly frustrated at the game keeping to punish me right from the start before I even started playing. I'll still keep enjoying my masochism for a while, but in not long I'll move on. I'll definitely never spend a dime on this game though and neither should you. Being punished for being a good player is just not right, nor fair.

Finally, this game has RNG elements. If it's not intended to covertly help out the newcomers and brake even more the success of good player by manipulating the results (as denied by the devs of course), then it is still a random element in a multiplayer game. This should simply not exist. RNG is for rogue likes, not for a multiplayer game where encounters need to be fair and consistent. Because when you hit one particular spot repeatedly and get only ricochets out of it, but in another match, in the reversed situation, the same tank you were using with the same shell, penetrates you at the same exact spot you were failing previously... That's just not right.

In the end, War Thunder shows the incredible skill of a brilliant dev team, but it tries to screw over skill in favour of making bad players feel good and that's just not right. And so playing this is not worth the months of life expectancy one loses through all the generated frustration...

After playing this game for over 1000 hours mostly ground battles I can honestly say that this game is on the decline its now full of cheaters & hackers using esp, aimbots etc. Even though Gaijin says there are none believe me there are! (Latest I have seen player killed he was rendered as killed i.e. turret on fire track gone completely burnt out but he was able to still move and fire most blatant hack I have seen).
The other problem with this game is the growing kamikaze way players dive and kill tanks with no consiquence to them i.e. not losing a life but you do! This part is one of the most annoying and talked about problems with this game in tank battles it needs to be sorted out before more and more people leave the game.
Oh and lets not forget Gaijins matchmaker algorithm that fixes the matches. What do I mean play it long enough and you will see.

(I apologise about the lack of coherence, I have hundereds of actual hours in this game and was once my passion)

As many others have said, this game was at one time absolutely stunning and full of promise, but now its just a ♥♥♥♥♥how filled with high quaility renders of vehicles. This game is beautiful and has fantastic physics, But this is a combat game and requires alot more effort than that.
The devs are Completely clueless on retaining players and have no idea on how to effectively balance the hundreds of planes in this game despite the dozens of attemps to help from the community. gaijin absolutely refuses to listen with a vengance, and wont tolerate any negative publicity.
the story of war thunder is a sad tale, doomed to be repeated by the countless F2P games that will never go away, we all hoped this one would be different, but corruption is a resilent foe, and war thunder fell victim.
this game is only alive thanks to its exeptional premise and constant influx of new players, but make no mistake, this game has been forsaken and no savior is in sight.

The game is slowly dying and mostly used by the dev as a cash cow.

This review was updated to summerize the growing list of problems.

- constant pop ups on log in urging you to buy premium
- After battle reports displaying what you 'could have earned' if you had premium
- Premium items being incredibly overpriced, up to $60 for one tank in some cases
- incredibly slow lifetime long grind to get anywhere in the game, no doubt a method to push premium
- free experience (you must use credit to unlock this) generated at a rate far too high in relation to unit experience
- challenges that reward free tanks but basically require the purchase of premium xp bonuses
- did i mention they push premium?
- constant recycling of units by the devs, they stick a swastika on a churchill and expect you to pay for it
- very thin unit trees, they have a large number of T-34 variants but zero japanese tanks
- that roll mechanic...
- poor map designs that are quite boring
- spawn camping (although we have all done it in our time)
- hackers
- Gaijins method (or lack there of) for combating hackers, which origionally was to remove realistic mode, but now they really stepped it up a notch by having the grand strategy of doing nothing

- Number 1 rule of War Thunder club: dont talk about hacking

*feel free to add to this list

But the most telling issue with the games future is the upcoming War Thunder Coast Guard, and no im not here to complain about ship size (as we all know its not the size of the boat, its the motion of the ocean). The thing i wish to point out is that Gaijin is not even capable of hosting a non-pixelated stream showing off its latest offering.

When the list of issues is nearly unending before boats are even released and gaijin couldnt even manage a stream let alone this steaming turd, it dosnt surprise me they are losing the player base.

When a dev takes such little pride in its product i take such little pride in playing it.

Welcome to War Thunder, the game where B-17s can get shoot down by a Russian Biplane, let's get started.

Things I like:
- Realistic flying mechanic
- Damage modules
-Both planes and tanks
And that's it.

Now, let's get to the things I hate.
- Balance -> This game is not balanced at all, there are 5 nations to join: USA, UK, Germany, Japan and Russia, now, the real problem (seen from a USA main) is that every nation exept for USA and maybe UK is overpower, expecially Russia.
It might be me, but I think there's a problem with the fact that a russian tier 1 plane can completly obliterate a tier 4 US bomber.
- Teammates -> Altough there are some good teammates who like to actually play as a team, the majority of the players wanna just get points, they won't communicate, they will ""steal"" your ""kills"" and they will bomb the objective you chose to bomb. Not to talk about the fact that most of the players will randomly write something in russian every 5 seconds ))))
- Bombers -> As a US Bombers main, I realized that bombers go down very quickly, expecially B-17s and that's a shame, because it's very hard to shoot down most of the other bombers, but the B-17 is probably one of the most weak one. And it's kinda strange, since in real life, the B-17 was one of the best bombers.
- Russia -> Every russian plane\tank is overpower, I litterally got bored of playing as US and constatly get shot down by Russia that I tried to play Russia and got bored of shooting down other planes.

People ofter ask "Is this game Pay to Win?" of course it isn't, it's play Russia to win

So, if you don't like to loose, Grab your Sekrit Dokumints, choose your Russian plane made of Stalinium and spam "♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥" everywhere you can and put on "Kalinka" or The russian march of Red Alert 2 oh, don't forget to write "xaxaxaxaxaxa ))))))" after every kill.

Now that you know how to play Russia in WT, you're ready to go Tovarish
