[Development] Updated model of the He 111H-6 bomber

Download Wallpaper: 1280x1024 | 1920x1080 | 2560x1440

Excellent news for fans of German aviation:
one of War Thunder’s old timers, the He 111H-6 bomber is receiving an updated model!
In addition, we’ve fixed a range of bugs that were present in the old model.

The German Heinkel He 111H-6 bomber is a true old timer in War Thunder – this aircraft was among the first to arrive in our game. As you already know from our Developer Diaries, work on upgrading old vehicle models takes an important place in the list of our artists’ and modelers’ responsibilities. In update 1.61 Road to Glory, the German bomber will receive an updated model and texture, which includes the removal of various drawbacks in the old model.

The current in-game model of the He 111H-6 is noticeably outdated and no longer meets the quality standards that we set for vehicle models in the game. The new model of this regular of aerial battles in ranks II-III now has far more polygons and the new texture has a 4K resolution and has become far more detailed than the previous model.

[Development] Crew Reinforcements

It takes weeks to build a ground vehicle. It takes years to train a professional. Vehicle crews and maintenance teams are the most valuable resource in any player’s slots.

But the realities of the game dictate their own rules. Every day on the War Thunder battlefields, far more vehicles are destroyed than ever met their end in real war, and a vehicle that is very survivable in real life may fail to show its virtues so clearly when it comes under a hail of fire. This mostly concerns heated battles on the ground.

We strive to recreate historical reality wherever this doesn’t oppose simple logic and exciting gameplay, and the survivability of ground vehicles in battle is an important factor that directly influences how much fun people have in battles. But how do we adapt our vehicles for far more deadly battles than those that took place in real life, without touching the tanks’ carefully recreated characteristics? The answer is simple: crews! It is people that control tanks, and the tank is considered lost only after the majority of its crew are killed. We’ve been looking into various options that would allow you to enjoy the battle for longer without losing the sense of a true conflict.

These options included medkits, which would allow you to return a member of your crew to life, but many of you considered this mechanic not entirely suitable for the realities of Simulator, Realistic and even Arcade battles in War Thunder. There was a literal downpour of suggestions for an alternative.
We’ve considered the most logical of your suggestions in developing this latest mechanism, and now we present a new mechanic – crew drafting.

Do things look bad? The tanker is already on the way!

In a large upcoming update, tankers in all modes will become acquainted with a new mechanic with which a tank still capable of contributing to the fight mechanically can prepare for the next skirmish with the enemy by replacing a knocked-out crew member with a reserve soldier.

How does this mechanic work?
Just as you requested, we’ve changed not only the crew member revival mechanism, but also introduced variety to how the mechanic works in different modes.

In Arcade mode, you can request a draft at any point on the map, and if there is only one tanker left in the tank, the draft is requested automatically and all you have to do is hope that the soldier arrives in time. It’s all quite simple, the only thing you have to consider is that the vehicle cannot move between your request for a crew member and the time the crew member arrives.

It’s a little more complicated in Realistic and Simulated modes. Here, you can only draft a tanker at a safe capture point that belongs to your team, and you can only draft a crew member manually. This is in contrast to Arcade mode, only a battle-capable vehicle with a minimum of two living crew members can draft a new crew member. It will also be impossible to move while the replacement is being fulfilled.
Crew drafting will become available after you research the ground vehicle modification of the same name. Each individual replacement tanker draft costs Silver Lions.

The tanker is ready to move whenever you request it.

We thank all players who helped by offering suggestions for the development of this new mechanic, and we hope that ground battles in all modes will become more fun because of it. Good luck!

After 700+h on Steam and another 800 on the external client without Steam, it's time to say goodbye.

So i write this review now:

Simply put, WT is a game with good concepts of gameplay, but ruined by bugs and unbalance.

1. Tier 5 of ground forces has been ruined by 2 things: HEATFS rounds, a type of shot which can penetrate any tank at any distance and moslty 1-shot it, and also ATGM carriers, a class of tank destroyer that can fire a guided missile that can 1-shot any tank at any distance, cannot be destroyed in mi-air, and this missile can be shot from full cover positions with just the launching rack exposed, with the actual tank becoming invulnerable to all frontal attacks.

2. Other tiers ground forces is also ruined by huge quantity of bugs, like a shot that is suppsoed to pierce a maximum 120mm armor piercing 200mm, or a shot that is supposed to pierce 270mm bouncing a 20mm armor surface. Or again, tanks with a dead gunner being able to shoot at you anyway, shots disappearing in thin air... the list would be too long. Also physics are broken.

3. Then there is also planes in ground forces. Oh yeah. If you do some kills in a match you get to drive a plane, each kill is worth 1 point you can spend for this plane, 2 points for rocket plane or 3 for bomber plane. You basically get to drive this plane for like 60 seconds, and you go and bomb or rocket tanks on the ground. Other people can come and shoot you down with 1 points fighter planes or also anti-air trucks can shoot you down. The point is planes are totally unnecessary, are spammed every 5 seconds, people uise them as kamikaze on tanks, and so on.

4. In Realistic mode it's even worse, people can bring their own planes and use them indefinitely, so it's a big bomb / rocket spam all along on tanks, while players maybe want a TANK battle not being bombed every 30 seconds.

5. A lot of tanks are premiums, you have to pay to get them or drop and complete Golden Wagers, which are nigh impossible to do. Those premium tanks are often overpowered, not all of them but most, and give you an edge on other players. I know this is F2P but some are ridiculous.

6. Sometimes there are events, where you can get premium tanks for free, often ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ones or "special" ones who are just reskins of existing ones, very rarely good ones. These events are always incredibly frustrating, not difficult but just frustrating. But, if you have Golden Eagles (premium credits), you can actually PAY and complete the tasks of an event instantly! Or even better, in some events you can buy a premium ticket, which allows you to get unlimited chances to perform specific tasks and so get an HUGE advantage above non-paying players, and in these events the number of special tanks is limited to say first 200 players on the leaderboards... so or you pay for the premium ticket or forget about getting even close to the special tank no matter how good you might be.

7. Tanks are often incorrect about what ammo they carry respectively to their historical counterparts, and shot mechanics are completely broken, it can happen you shoot the enemy's ammo rack with a cannon, and the ammo becomes yellow, or orange, that means damaged, or even black, which means destroyed, but NOT explode, and then the enemy kill you. Same can happen for any other part or crew member, it is totally realistic a crew member can survive a cannon shot in the chest and be only wounded right?

8. Maps are often bugged and tanks can actually often shoot THROUGH buildings, concrete walls, steel beams, trains and so on... so don't be surprised if you see killcams of people shotting you through a house or a steel beam.

This might have been a bit ranty and i apologize, but this is completely true. Try for yourself if you want.

This was a good game before OP tanks, before Maus (which i own), before HEATFS and ATGM, before plane spam, before events you can pay to win.

It is not anymore.

I thought this was a good game at first, but I've done everything to get ranked up (I've been playing for like 3 years and I'm still at level four and I play this most of the times). It's full of people playing as Russians and their planes are way out of other people's league and the RP system? Oh my ♥♥♥♥ing God. When I get RP it tells me to spend it on some ♥♥♥♥ that I do not want and it does it to the planes that I only use once (Biplanes to be exact), this game needs to be fixed, then it will be playable, but right now. It's a piece of ♥♥♥♥ game with 12 year olds playing as Russians and who ask their parents for ♥♥♥♥ing Golden Eagles.

This game is super addictive.

And the best bit? It costs ZERO. Sure, if you want to hit the big leagues you are probably going to have to shell out some cash, but I've not spent a red-razoo (cent) and have thoroughly enjoyed numerous battles. As an ex-WoT player, i enjoy how a single penetration can kill your crew. I tried WoWP, but Warthunders aircraft (arcade) just seem to respond far more naturally. (not crapping on "World Of" products either... am still playing and paying for WoWS).

The levelling system and vehicle upgrade (modifications) and crew systems takes a bit of getting used to, but overall this game provides some SOLID hours of entertainment. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you 外人.

Ruskies build grat planes, we also built grat tanks much more Ruski than those ♥♥♥♥in stupid Nazis. Our grat tanks can onehit nazi tanks that are way better and bigger, and still take ♥♥♥♥♥ifull shot to be desrtoyed, our planes can fruckin wreck nazi-planes twices as big even though our ♥♥♥♥♥full planes are already way faster. ♥♥♥♥ realism ! honour to Russia ! If you want to play for Mother Russia this game is great otherwise, you are ♥♥♥♥ed you fat nazi. In other words this game is the most unhistorical ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t, as russian just do everything better than the germans in this game, and is unplayable as russian tanks are just op.

Good graphics, challenging tactic scenarios and fun to play. You can choose what troops you want to play as and you can choose your nation too. Models may not be historical correct always so that bothers some people not me. I still had much fun with this game and think it is excellent and free!

Are you looking for a game that accurately portrays WWII warfare? Then look somewhere else because that is not this game. The balancing is terrible and not up to historical records. There are multiple instances of russian biases (they get double payload for standard shells, tu-4, etc.). It is a timesink. I cannot reccomend putting the time into getting RP for tiering up when the developers literally just copy paste vehicles across tiers. If you play free expect to grind across an eternity.

War Thunder. War Thunder never changes.

On august 15th, 2013, someones great great grandfather, who served in the army, wondered when he'd get to go home to his wife and brand new PC which he had never seen to play a WW2 sim. He got his wish when Gaijin released War Thunder, by dropping a download into a non translated Russian page.

The gaming community awaited Armageddon, instead, something terrible happened. Gaijin began to make the game not as an accurate sim, but as a source of nearly limitless propaganda. Russians enjoyed luxuries once thought the realm of Soviet WW2 fan fiction. T-34's, LaGG-3s, Mig-17s outclassing whatever they faced. But then, in 2015, people awoke from the euphoria induced dream.

Years of imbalance lead to shortages of nearly every major resource. The entire community unraveled. Fun became a distant memory.

It is now the year 2016. The community stands on the brink of total annihilation, and i am afraid for myself, my bank account, for my time wasted grinding.

Because if my time in the game taught me one thing: it's that War Thunder, War Thunder never changes.

my biggest problem is the devs, i mean, tbh they are not like those awkward devs when talking with the player, the devs can joke around quite well and trying to be player-friendly by releasing some player-made videos, guides and how to,etc., but the problem is, they are trying way. too. ♥♥♥♥ing. hard

like for real, when the player talks about some problems with the br, they literally dismissed it like a joke, it seems that they never take any complaints from the player base seriously

if you wanna play and have fun, choose the russian, because even if you are an absolute dimwit, and you can and WILL win the game, thats how messed up it is

I've played this game a lot, and everytime I play for a while I put it away again because i get frustrated with it, it is neither historically accurate nor balanced. It has problems that are not being fixed and bad community moderators that just shut you up. I'm not recommending this game.

This could be a great game for people who love ww2 simulators like me, but it isnt even the pay to win that gets me, it is the play Russia to win. It is impossible to get fair matches due to the bias towards Russia in balance. I highly reccomend NOT playing this biased pay to win game.
