[Development] G-5 torpedo boat: The Little Terror

We present the most widely produced Soviet boat of the Second World War – the G-5 motor torpedo boat.

Development of the G-5 torpedo boat began way back in 1928, under the direction of the famous aircraft designer Tupolev. This small and nimble vessel was created to combat large enemy ships. Her main role was to approach the enemy ship, fire off two torpedoes and quickly retreat before the enemy’s deck artillery turns you into a pile of duralumin and wood splinters.

The G-5 was equipped with two AM-34 aircraft engines designated GAM-34 and specially adapted for use on naval vessels. In general, these engines were in extremely high demand in the pre-war Soviet period – War Thunder players will already be familiar with them from the TB-3 and MBR-2 airplanes. Practically identical engines were placed in the SMK tanks and the experimental SU-100Y SPG. A powertrain of two of these engines allowed the boat to reach 51 knots (over 94 km/h). The boat was a little over 19 meters long and had a crew of just 6. It had no artillery armament save for a DShK machine gun. The little G-5’s main firepower was in two 53-38 caliber 533 mm torpedoes in dropping torpedo racks. These torpedoes were not launched forward, but were released from the rear of the G-5 in the direction of the boat’s travel instead. To get out of the way of her own torpedoes, the boat had to immediately change course after releasing them.

[Event] Large Calibres and Rocket Science!

From 15:00 GMT on October 14th to 07:00 GMT on October 17th
The events 'Large Calibres!' and 'Rocket Science'
will be available with +20% Research Points and & +20% Silver Lions bonuses!

Only enemies which have been destroyed and torn to shreds can be considered ‘not dangerous’, and so, what better way to achieve this than with large calibre weapons? Pilots and tankers, this weekend only, take part in these ‘one shots’ events: "Large Calibres" and "Rocket Science!"

Large Calibres
In the 'Large Calibres' Arcade event, the most hard-hitting aircraft, with 37mm cannons or higher, will go head to head in unforgiving aerial battles. Destroy enemies and lead your team to victory to achieve an additional bonus of +20% to your battle reward.

Rocket Science
In the “Rocket Science” event, ground vehicles which are armed with guided and unguided missiles will be pitted against one another in explosive combat! Victory will go to the team which is first to achieve 100 frags. It will be interesting to find out what is more dangerous: the precision of guided missiles, or the mad flurry of unguided missiles.
The event will take place on the location “ Tunisia”.

In War Thunder, you can take part in major battles on land, in the air, and at sea, fighting with real players from all over the world in a continuously developing environment.

War Thunder already offers a highly detailed experience in military aviation and ground forces combat, giving players access to a Guinness World Record breaking number of aircraft, as well as an abundance of tanks and other combat vehicles - and the number is constantly rising.

You can feel the unmatched intensity of aerial dogfights in a fighter, the decisive power of commanding a heavy strategic bomber or the heat of battle in a ground attacker, delivering precision strikes against your enemies. Alternatively, you can join the spearhead of armoured vehicles, fighting for dominance over the battlefield on the ground: Man a heavy tank with impressive armour and firepower, use the maneuverability of a medium or light tank to your advantage, or support your team by screening the skies with your anti aircraft vehicle - the choice is yours!

In the future, the game will also allow players to ‘set sail’ by commanding a variety of warships in the fight over the control of the world’s oceans, giving the game a truly epic scale.

Master your vehicles through both upgrades and personal experience in an environment that is constantly expanding and rewarding the personal skill of the player. It is pretty hard to give this game a solid yes or no considering there is a lot to love AND to hate about this game.
- Amazing graphics
- Realistic, World of Tanks doesn't even come close to this level of realism
- Lots of different vehicles
- Well-optimised
- Not as pay to win as one might think

- Technically speaking however: it is pay to win
- Average toxic free to play community
- Unlocking tanks can be a real grind
- Game developers don't know what creating and maintaining a community is
- The game is meeting its end and the developers know it, they are now trying to squeeze as much money out of their remaining small playerbase

Every single update, Gaijin breaks the game more and more. Ask anyone with many hours in the game, and that's what they'll tell you. Every once in a great while, I come back to the game to see its current state, and oh boy, to no surprise, they ruin it up every single time. It's always something. It's always a broken flight model or damage model that stays broken for years, but conveniently, the developer's country of origin will always have the most cutting edge, despite having garbage heaps in WWII.

Their newest system, their blackout system from excessive geforce, likes to black your pilot out by just flying in a straight line. Hit detection is garbage, you cannot select the game mode, PS4 players are in the mix with their horrid network cards, so you'll have B-25s teleporting behind fighters and killing them, and it's very pay-to-win. You can buy foliage to camouflage yourself with, you can outright buy planes and tanks, and often times, those pay-to-win tanks and planes will have a lower battle rating than their legitimate counterparts.

If you want a game like this, sadly, everything else fails to come close. Even more unfortunate is that this very game fails to compare to what it used to be in 2013. Every single update ends up doing something wrong.

I had to write a review about this game because I have noticed the amount of ♥♥♥♥ this game has been getting lately, and with over 1,000 hours, I feel as if I am more than qualified to do so.

Yes, War Thunder is not a perfect game *gasp*, and I too have had my fair share of frustration at times. But when I sit back after a match and think about what I did wrong after being completely ♥♥♥♥ on, nine times out of ten it was my fault. Not angling my armor properly, being impatient and pushing so far up I get surrounded, etc. Thats what I love about this game. When you screw up, it's on you.

People are quick to cry wolf on the russian bias. Those people are also the ones who don't angle, flank, and mindlessly take on a heavy tank from the front. This game requires a plethora of skill which you will eventually require through practice and perserverance. Learn your tank/plane! Know your weaknesses and your strengths! This will help you tramendously in any situation. If instant gratification is something you are looking for, there's always COD.

Gaijin does a wonderful job updating the game fairly fast, and you can see they really do care about their community. They keep us updated and add new content almost every other month. They also do an excellent job hyping the following updates, giving players something to look forward to in the near future *COUGH COUGH BOATS*

Basically if you want me to cut the ♥♥♥♥ and get straight to the point of this review...

*Do not play this game if you are easily angered or impatient. YOU WILL NOT SURVIVE.

*If you are new to WT, give it a try for yourself instead of looking at the comments. This community really likes to whine. Don't let the comments plague your experience.

Most importantly, have fun, try not to think too much, and I'll see you in the skies!! o7

This game starts out fun but as you get into the high ranks, it starts taking 50 to 75 games to unlock a single tank or plane. Very often two or even three of these tanks or planes are indentical in every way, save the name, meaning you spent 200+/- games trying to advance past them to something new. At the same time you start seeing players who paid real money for tanks that are practically invincible. Suprise, they kill you at will. On top of all this, there is a terrbile bias towards the Russian faction and games are generally one by whichever team has more russian players.

Its a relativelly realistic game with LOTS of tanks, planes and soon ships. Also it has great graphics&sounds and LOW requirments. I dont recommend it THOUGH BECAUSE it has almost no balance, 0% historical accuracy in battles (Tigers are playing against Caernavons) and weird bugs ( OftenShots from a King Tiger rickoshet a T-34 with no angle or any explanation) and it is also considered by many Russian Bias (it has Russian Developers and Russian tanks are a bit stronger than they should). IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A REALISTIC WW2 GAME THIS IS NOT FOR YOU !!! In any other case you might like it.

Nice graphics
Completely unbalanced.
No historical accuracy.
The worst WWII vehicles are the best in this game.
T34-85 is the best tank here so, if you want to win, play USSR.
German tanks are almost useless.
This is a game of communist propaganda.

This game is pretty much like cocaine. You're unsure about it at first but your friends get you to try it, first hit is pretty great and then you leave it alone for a little while but you still got that urge to do it again ya know. So you do, you take that sweet sweet nose candy and you just do it as much as you can. Soon you're hooked, That 2nd hit was soon to lead to your demise. The craving get stronger, you can't help but keep going, and eventually you're in a hole where you're in about 1k in spendings on just this single thing just hoping you have enough to last you for the rest of the month.

If you can picture that and you generally enjoy that image then War Thunder is the game for you.

A World War II simulator that is accessible, doesn't require a joystick and looks great? The developers must've worked really hard to make such a great idea into such absolute garbage. Vehicles are horribly unbalanced and gameplay is deliberately frustrating. Whether it be having your tank get bombed with no chance to defend yourself, or getting sniped as the game begins because the maps don't have enough cover between the two spawns, or getting spawn camped because the developers decided that placing the enemy capture point right next to your spawn with no spawn protection was a good idea, the design is just ridiculous. Also, skill-based games should have skill based match-making to prevent noobs from getting matched with pros. This one doesn't, and the result sucks for both of those groups. GG Gaijin.

i only have 229.4 hour's on the game but form what i can tell it's one of the best free to play ww2, cold war, game there is,
sure it has a few bug's but most are small.

amazing graphics for a free to play game better then most pay to play game's.
Entertainment for hour's.
wonderful map's for plane's and tanks.
works good for old/slow Pc's has better setting's then most game's, like *H&G* :/
tanks feel Realistic compaired to most tank game's like world of tanks.
you can play as tanks, planes, and ships, <--[opps dif game].
you can even use a joystick and it's easy to setup, unlike most game's.
you can play as USA, Gremany, Russia, Great Britan, Japan, and some other's Italy, Romaina, <-- to name a few.
you can make skins for your plane and add logo's.
you can play with friend's form all over and make new friends.
it's one of, if not the best free to play ww1, ww2, cold war, game's out there.
New plane's every year.
new tanks every year.
all plane's are fair in there own way.
you can download custom map's for this game
it's historical planes vs planes or tanks vs tanks or even tanks vs planes
it's a free to play game with jet's.

Russian's are a little op but thats the way they where made can't complain much.
Great Britan's spitfire's firepower, and speed are a little of the op side, but thats how they where made in real life. can't complain much there agian.
some American tanks need to be buff in some bit's.
AI need's a little buff when guarding base.
Salty community saying this game suck's for a ww2 game,
then why would you play it in the first place anyway, doesn't make sense :/

people who say it's bad, cause they can't unlock plane's like they want to. salt
it's not just a ww2 game it's a cold war to <---[most of these people who say it's a bad ww2 game it's a cold war game to] :/
people saying update's are to big that's be cause they are fixing bug's that people point out.
need to add France, and add Japan, tank's <---[on there way.]

Other then all of these it's a wonderful game!!
