New Build - Alpha 0.9.7 - Grenade Launcher, Terrain, Quests

April 11th, 2014

Hello everyone, it’s been a little while since our last update but we’ve been working away the whole time. It’s a giant update, here’s the full notes:

  • New Building, the Grenade Launcher! The Grenade Launcher fires a grenade that bounces once, then explodes on hit, doing terrain and area of effect damage. We got some pretty interesting V-shaped trajectories during playtesting that no other building can do. Unlock it from the armory!
  • Nightmare and normal mode difficulty tweaking
  • Reworked the main menu organization and separated Local Multiplayer from Versus AI matches. Versus AI is now in the ‘Adventure’ (formerly Single Player) option while Local Multiplayer is under the ‘Multiplayer’ option.
  • Added settings option to run the game in 16:9 aspect ratio (which should fix stretching in fullscreen for people requesting 2560x1440, 1920x1080, 1366x768, 1280x720 resolution support)
  • UI Polish Pass (Part 1 of Many). Lots of the ui got a nice polish pass, including the game end screens and xp point counter upper. More to come in future updates.
  • Terrain Art Pass (Part 1 of Many). Say farewell to the plain gray terrain of before and hello to some really awesome new terrain art. This is the biggest visual improvement the game has ever had since we launched on early access. Some levels still need the new art, but again more to come in future updates.
  • First pass on quest system. Quests are generated every time you start the game and are objectives you can complete while playing to earn addition XP and explore new play styles. Let us know if you have any interesting quest ideas!
  • Fixed a crash when trying to activate the taskmasters in some conditions
  • Fixed issue where repair center targeting couldn’t get to some buildings in some configurations
  • Fixed bug where warhead didn’t take damage from tunnelling in some cases
  • Fixed bug where a mountain maker shot would detonate prematurely on a warhead
  • Fixed issue with King’s shield and flamethrower interacting strangely

Since this is such a big update, there are bound to be some issues and bugs that snuck through our pre-update testing. Report them in the comments and I'll hotpatch them as soon as I can.

About the Game

Get ready to play the next evolution of the artillery genre!

Cannon Brawl is a game we've always wished existed: a mix of real time strategy and artillery gameplay. Command the action from your airship to capture gold mines, plant outposts and build everything from cannons to lasers. Drop war-machine buildings from your airship, then pop into them to take skill shots at your opponent in real time. Upgrade each building to boost its devastating power. Advance across the kingdom in single player to unlock and discover new buildings, then experiment with each one to find your favorite combination in online multiplayer.

Choose from among fourteen buildings and five airship pilots (with more to come) for a huge variety of strategic combinations. Want to turtle up and launch big warheads from afar? You can! Want to rush to the high ground and launch a rain of missiles from above? You can! Try out tons of other strategies and crush your friends in multiplayer!

Cannon Brawl is a worm style 2D real time action stragtey game that is fast pace while still allowing you to relax and have fun.

Campain-- the evil uncle is raging war agesnt the good king and it's the princeness's ( you) job to stop the war!
this battle now starts alowing you to controll a huge airship to dock, aim, fire, build, sell, upgrade and BLOW THINGS UP. While this game makes great use of the space bar ( realy it's the arrow keys to move. space bar for everything else) you quickly get the hang of the rules and game play.

You will quickley get other poilts, each with there owen powers, and towers like the forst tower or the warhead tower. after you complete campian don't stop there! you can replay the hole thing over on night mare mode! and you can always just vrs AI in battles but the fun starts when you hit MP and start climbing up the leader borads!

After you have nailed down the base game play all thats left is more towers more bad guys more airship poilts and MORE BLOWING THINGS UP

i rate this game 7/art 8/sound 9/gameplay 10/fun and entertaing so thats 34/40! with about 12-20 hours of game play!

It is like the Worms series or Pocket Tanks. A lot of fun with simple, yet fast paced strategy.

Good game, real time worms, decent campaign and has replayability. Multiplayer is a bit dead at the moment, should change when it comes out of beta.

This is probably one of the best surprise indie games I've played all of 2013. It's essentially a Worms RTS. You build buildings on a Worms-like landscape and the goal is to use towers to destroy the enemy base. It is a brilliant game with a fun story that makes you want to keep playing, as each new level is a new challenge and not some repetitive nonsense to increase story length.

Also, if you guys didn't know, this is the game that won Activision's $100k game concept contest. Activision did a terrific job picking this game out and these devs are every bit deserving of that funding and your money. Buy this game if you like Worms or RTS games.
