Comprar RPG Maker: DS Resource Pack

Acerca de este contenido

Invoking the feel of SNES-era RPGs, RPG Maker DS was a big hit in Japan. Unfortunately, it hasn't made it over to North America (yet). What has made it over however is a boatload of resources and graphical goodies.

We've taken the original resources and modified them (when necessary) to work perfectly with RPG Maker VX Ace. This resource pack is our biggest to date (even bigger than the original RPG Maker VX Ace RTP!!).

This resource pack will help turn your RPG ideas into reality.

7/10 "Useful if you're an advanced and dedicated user"

According to this particular DLC pack's FAQ, "The DS resource pack is mainly aimed for advanced users of RPG Maker... You are expected to open graphic editor programs and merge the sets as you see fit." This however, is the main problem with RPG Maker: DS Resource Pack. The DLC itself is nowhere a bad product, but it is extremely limited and difficult to be utilized by the community's standards. Unless you're an experienced developer and you know what you're doing, you may not get as much out of this DLC as you expect.

By itself, DS Resource Pack is a decent tool. The style is great and ideal for light-hearted and comedic games because of the smooth and cuddly graphic. Tilesets are very good looking; characters are way lot cuter than the RTP style; facesets and portraits are simply gorgeous; BGMs are also a major improvement over VX's RTP, as they are in OGG Vorbis rather than the minimum midi format; finally, the DLC comes with several RGSS3 Ruby scripts that fix bugs and give additional fuctions toward Ace's RTP. As far as I kmnow, not many people use these types of art yet. Therefore mastering the pack and use it may make your look looks very impressive.

I, however, say "master" not because of how skillful you need arrange the graphic into the gameplay, but because it is a mandatory process you need to go through just to make the pack usable. As good as the pack is, DS pack is ill-sorted, Graphic provided in the pack has siginificant different sizes and styles compared to VX Ace's RTP and even more crashing compared to other famous resources like Mack's, ZPU's, and other Internet based contributions people have been using out there for years. Everything in the DLC regarding tilesets and characters are smaller and panned differently than usual despite that VX Ace's templetes are designed to hold larger graphic. this creates three main problems.

- First, characters and tileset items will look uncomfortably small and awkwardly panned in a window mode testplay. This also makes it very hard for the pack to fit in with other resources you find around the Internet, since they have different scales.
- Second, the smaller tileset items and offensive amounts of useless tiles that are badly put together in a big template means that tile junks will eat away more spaces than they should, creating unusable voids and situational tiles that effectively limit the usefulness of the tilesets.
- Third, the resources are not compact and all-purposes like in the RTP's case, yet there are voids and unusable materials everywhere. This mean unless you are willing to edit and restructure the pack, they are not going to be very useful and you will be forced to import and organize more resources than you normally should.

DS resource Pack is a decent DLC, but its usefulness is significantly limited because of its crashing style toward other avaliable resources, as well as its poor organization for the starter. At very least, you get bug-fixes and neat music, but the fact remains that it is not a user-friendly pack, If you are a veteran in RPG Maker gaming development, it definately worths your money, but otherwise, it comes to whether of not you are willing to commit extra efforts on the resources themselves.

I got DS+ in the past and I was excited.
So I decided I should get DS too.

This DLC is really great.
It contains some plug and play enhancement scripts,
a lot of graphics and music and mostly, decent tilesets.
These tilesets can really substitute a lot of the original that come with VX Ace.
For instance, you can make mountains and hills with DS instead of using the poor default squared tileset.
Decent DLC contains some facesets and portraits.
It's not as good as DS+ on this part, it has somewhat less content, but still it is a great add on.
Yes I do recommend it. Pretty neat stuff in here.

What to expect:

DS comes with:

A set if some tutorials on how to do some neat stuff.
A set of great sample maps in a demo (passability was not set but you can do such stuff easily).
Another set of great sample maps in a demo, that was made by shift mapping partly.
Full size artwork of the Battlers included.
36 Awesome battlers
34 sets of character and monster sprites with 8 sprites on each one.
Two 4 sprite character sets
One three character set
1 Template
Objects animatiling like fireplace, flames on stand, fountain, magic, pillar, chimney smoke, water bubbles, doors, waterfall waves, boulders, buttons orbs, levbers, trap, signs carts, chests, waste pipe, sparkles.
20 full facesets. (8 faces each)
160 bust portraits
A system interface set
Two Icon sets
85 big icons
48 tileset files including tiles for: Sewer, lava, ice, water, crystal, broken table (expandable) broken floor, alternative floors (outter), some extra house outter tiles, high quality dungeon forest maze garden and cliff tiles, arabian town, ruins alternatives, tree inner tileset, tent inner tileset and extra tiles for parallax and variation, like ruins, apple tree, alternative trees -forest, altar stones, tents furniture, ruined furniture, classroom blackboard with furniture, stairs, a haystack, windows and doors with and without light coming in, items, castle and fort concepts, and finally world map add ons.
20 music pieces in ready to loop ogg format.
Extra: 3 tilesets for even more variety and parallaxing. A wooden gate door and two blood stains.
Some neat scripts, like 1-5 member party, smarter AI, Map background, No autoshadows AND some fixes.

A lot of neat stuff, with the priviledge to use them for commercial purposes. This DLC is really nice.
DS+ is more essential in my opinion since it contains modern day tiles, but getting both DS and DS+ really helps you turn your ideas into games easily.

I do really recommend it, as a product you should buy after getting DS+ and I can say that in my opinion, both products deserve the price.

The overworld looks odd to be honest but the rest makes it look like a SNES Era RPG
