Acquista RPG Maker: DS Resource Pack

Riguardo questo contenuto

Invoking the feel of SNES-era RPGs, RPG Maker DS was a big hit in Japan. Unfortunately, it hasn't made it over to North America (yet). What has made it over however is a boatload of resources and graphical goodies.

We've taken the original resources and modified them (when necessary) to work perfectly with RPG Maker VX Ace. This resource pack is our biggest to date (even bigger than the original RPG Maker VX Ace RTP!!).

This resource pack will help turn your RPG ideas into reality.

This Resource Pack Contains

  • 5 Dungeon Sets (Ice, Sewer, Crystal, Space, Mines)
  • 4 Town Sets (Arabian, Forest, Castle, Town)
  • 36 Character Sheets
  • 36 Battlers including High Res Version
  • Facesets and Bust Shots
  • 20 BGM Tracks
  • 80 Icons, 85 Big Icons, 1 Windowskin
  • 33 Event Objects by EvilEagles and Archeia
  • 20 Free Sample Maps by Deckiller and Liberty
  • Exclusive scripts by Fomar0153 and Free Scripts and Fixes by NeonBlack, LoneWolf, Mezzolan, Mithran

70/100:

According to this particular DLC pack's FAQ, "The DS resource pack is mainly aimed for advanced users of RPG Maker... You are expected to open graphic editor programs and merge the sets as you see fit." This however, is the main problem with RPG Maker: DS Resource Pack. The DLC itself is nowhere a bad product, but it is extremely limited and difficult to be utilized by the community's standards. Unless you're an experienced developer and you know what you're doing, you may not get as much out of this DLC as you expect.

By itself, DS Resource Pack is a decent tool. The style is great and ideal for light-hearted and comedic games because of the smooth and cuddly graphic. Tilesets are very good looking; characters are way lot cuter than the RTP style; facesets and portraits are simply gorgeous; BGMs are also a major improvement over VX's RTP, as they are in OGG Vorbis rather than the minimum midi format; finally, the DLC comes with several RGSS3 Ruby scripts that fix bugs and give additional fuctions toward Ace's RTP. As far as I kmnow, not many people use these types of art yet. Therefore mastering the pack and use it may make your look looks very impressive.

I, however, say "master" not because of how skillful you need arrange the graphic into the gameplay, but because it is a mandatory process you need to go through just to make the pack usable. As good as the pack is, DS pack is ill-sorted, Graphic provided in the pack has siginificant different sizes and styles compared to VX Ace's RTP and even more crashing compared to other famous resources like Mack's, ZPU's, and other Internet based contributions people have been using out there for years. Everything in the DLC regarding tilesets and characters are smaller and panned differently than usual despite that VX Ace's templetes are designed to hold larger graphic. this creates three main problems.

- First, characters and tileset items will look uncomfortably small and awkwardly panned in a window mode testplay. This also makes it very hard for the pack to fit in with other resources you find around the Internet, since they have different scales.
- Second, the smaller tileset items and offensive amounts of useless tiles that are badly put together in a big template means that tile junks will eat away more spaces than they should, creating unusable voids and situational tiles that effectively limit the usefulness of the tilesets.
- Third, the resources are not compact and all-purposes like in the RTP's case, yet there are voids and unusable materials everywhere. This mean unless you are willing to edit and restructure the pack, they are not going to be very useful and you will be forced to import and organize more resources than you normally should.

DS resource Pack is a decent DLC, but its usefulness is significantly limited because of its crashing style toward other avaliable resources, as well as its poor organization for the starter. At very least, you get bug-fixes and neat music, but the fact remains that it is not a user-friendly pack, If you are a veteran in RPG Maker gaming development, it definately worths your money, but otherwise, it comes to whether of not you are willing to commit extra efforts on the resources themselves.
