Castle Story - Update 0.3.6

Hi guys,

We have two new features to introduce to you this week. But before, let me remind you that you can still switch to the bleeding edge branch which will contain the most recent bugfixes and features. If you don’t want to wait for the next patch, the bleeding edge gives you a glimpse of what’s coming. Please note that the bleeding edge branch version can be broken from time to time.

If you want more information on how to change your BETAS branch, please visite this link:http://support.castlestory.net/kb/articles/10-how-to-change-your-betas-branch

For the Bleeding edge changelog check out this sub-forum: http://steamcommunity.com/app/227860/discussions/3/620703493314275493/

Blueprint shader

The construction can sometimes become confusing and tedious. Especially when you’re dealing with a complex structure with a large number of blueprints.

To facilitate the work, we are introducing a new shader for the construction blueprints. This reduces the amount of details in each blueprint which makes it easier to plan the construction and put the blocks in place.

Dragging blueprints

Speaking of blueprints, you can now put them in place even more faster  by pressing the "CTRL" button on your keyboard plus the left button on your mouse. This will allow you to plan your construction without having to put the"ghost blocks" individually on the terrain.

Known Issues

If you go over a Bricktron or a task icon with the dragging function, using the "CTRL" button and the left button on your mouse, the blueprints will disappear.

About This Game

Castle Story is a creative voxel-based strategy game in which you can build castles one brick at a time using an army of little characters called Bricktrons.

Your goal will be to explore a vast landscape full of mysteries and dangers, and defend your castle against onslaughts of hostile creatures and possibly other players.

The world of Castle Story takes place on flying islands, high above an infinite ocean. The islands are made of voxels, cubes made of various elements, which means you can dig, carve and build anything you can imagine in the landscape. Digging underground to gather resources, stacking bricks on top of each other to build a wall or even tunnelling through a mountain is all possible and even necessary to keep your Bricktrons safe.

Carefully designing your castle not only requires creativity and imagination, but thanks to pathfinding AI and physics simulations, Castle Story has layers of strategy and depth on top of an otherwise free-form sandbox experience.

Castle Story will be released for Windows & Mac (with possible Linux support once Unity4 is released).

Key Features

  • Build any structure you can imagine! Using 2x1 blocks, create structures that are not only good-looking, but also functional. Your Bricktrons need to be able to navigate your castle to build it and to keep the monsters out!
  • Physics! Watch a tower crumble to the ground realistically when its foundations can no longer support it. The entire world obeys to the laws of physics which means that you need to build cleverly so your castle can withstand attacks from projectiles and explosives.
  • Sandbox! Build a huge sprawling fortress, a single impenetrable bunker or a network of underground tunnels. The choice is yours. Castle Story rewards imagination and ingenuity.
  • Strategy! Command your Bricktrons as they build your castle brick by brick. Manage the way they work, what resources they gather, and the places they explore. Use your resources to build weapons and armor for your Bricktrons and all kinds of upgrades for your castle.
  • Combat! Using shields, swords, bows and lots more, your Bricktrons can defend themselves against the hostile creatures inhabiting the world of Castle Story. Lead your Bricktrons through tough fights, and use your wits to gain an advantage. You can even build catapults to rain destruction on your foes!
  • Magic! The world of Castle Story is permeated with all kinds of magic. Discover resources with magical auras and learn to mix them to create effects. Explore strange places and find mysterious artifacts left behind by unknown civilizations.

**** DO NOT BUY, DEVELOPMENT IS SO SLOW THAT IS GOING BACKWARDS ****

I've bought this game beginning of 2014, since then i was already seeing of a lot of people saying the development was extremely slow, i waited for one entire year, and here is what i've got:

New Textures = New textures, oh my god, now the game is more beautiful but still buggy.
New Shaders = Another huge gigantic interstellar ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to make game look more 'cute'.
New Animations = Makes a couple of animations, games is almost the same ♥♥♥♥.
New AI System = True, new AI System with new bugs and not polished, fantastic job!
New Skybox = Sauropod receives complaints about game being buggy, makes a new skybox, LOL.
HDR Lighting = Another visual ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Bigger Islands Up to one square KM = Game has issues with saving and bugs over the mechanics. makes the islands bigger!

Overall:

In one entire year, i saw 10% gameplay development and 90% visual, 1 year ago visuals and animations was pretty good, nobody would complain about the graphics, and instead of working on the mechanics and focusing on what is really important, throws new graphics in a new update, Sauropod, you are a joke.

0/10.

I purchased this game atleast 1.5 years ago, and fair to say nothing has been changed.
I would not recommend this game due to it taking forever to develop.

It pains me to write this, especially as one who managed to get some enjoyment out of this title, as well as someone who bought the game barely a month after it was put up on Steam with high hopes. Castle Story is a lackluster and at times needlessly frustrating experience that will just make you want to crave more with no hope of it ever delivering. First of all, the AI remains dirt stupid and at times unresponsive, making mutlitasking, an element crucial to games like these, more arduous than it should be. Sandbox mode will most likely not hold your attention for long, with there being a limited variety in building materials. Not only that, but getting said materials is time consuming and tedious, something you don't want said about a supposed sandbox mode.

Survival mode seemed promising at first, combining the freedom to build structures of many shapes and sizes with a tower defense play-style. Now, there is fun to had here if you're willing to look past the bad AI and hardly any strategy. Otherwise, the novelty won't save it from the mediocrities riddled throughout this gamemode. Accompanied with the aforementioned AI problems, the guards will ignore oncoming enemies, letting them slip by and wreak havok on your settlement. It's a shame because this gamemode has the potential to be something fufilling, if it were just executed better and had more options at your disposal (i.e, leveling up bricktrons and contraptions, stronger materials, depth in level design).

With no other gamemode to fall back on, you are almost guaranteed to lose interest long before this ever leaves early-access. You'd think that the developers would have found the time to encorporate more features and gamemodes in the last two years or so to keep us interested, much like many other open-alpha indie games out there. But alas, for whatever reason, updates have mainly consisted of bug fixes and graphical improvements. Unless by some miracle, this game gets finished and has a solid, replayable, and satisfying experience as a final product, I doubt I'll be concerning myself with this game anytime soon, and I suggest you do the same, to anyone thinking of buying this.

I was excited for this game from the moment i heard about it, i was one of the first to jump on the initial kick starter in 2012. when I got the 1st release of the game later in 2012 it was pretty much unplayable... and I am sad to say after 3 years of development not much has changed.
The controls are clunky and fickle making building anything somewhat complex a constant fight. the AI is just terrible, they cant seem to do anything on their own with out you micro managing them to make sure they dont get stuck. there is no real content in the game yet, no real point to playing(unless a constant battle with controls and poor AI is what you find fun). I had high hopes for this game and maybe one day it will be great, but at its current rate it will not be anything worth playing for another several years :(

Wow I've waited more than 1.5 years to be able to play more than the one map they have released on survival... I really don't care about the awesome new way the little yellow man walks compared the the not as awseome way the little yellow man walks... just put some content in to make me not feel stupid for paying for this game.

Yet another game full of potential, but lazy devs had done almost abosolutely nothing to update this game. I know a game that was similar to this game (Timber and Stone) that was release the same year, and about a few months apart.

The first release of Timber and Stone had more features than the latest version of Castle Story.

I like to consider this as robbing. The devs robs money from you and it robs a game from being good.

What a shame. Keep my money devs, Just don't do it again, and don't give us false hope, you robbed us and the least you could do is admit it.

I wanted to build a castle and have it attacked by waves of baddies... This game either has a sandbox mode or a wave mode... but nothing kind of combining the two...

This game is very unfinished and from what everyone else says it hasnt really been worked on much. You cant delete stockpiles... kind of anoying.. and many other bugs.

I have this game for a very long time now and been playing it for 3-4 hours. The most important part in this type of game is AI. This game has the most aweful AI I have ever seen. Workers are dumb at the best. You have to micro manage each one of them because they keep stopping. Your guards keep ignoring enemies. Its so frustrating.....

After years of hoping this title would reemerge victoriously I abandon all hope on it.

Not enough content to entertain for more than a session. Unfortunately the kind of updates one expects takes years, no exaggeration. Buy it and wait until you grow old before expecting an update that improves the game. But wait! Your knights will get pumpkins for helmets during halloween!! When you don't hear anything useful from the devs and then get that message that knights get pumkins for helmets during halloween it's like they laugh in your face.
So much work they say... I cannot even tell the difference between current version and prototype version yet years have passed.

This kind of progress rate and pretending everything is going well is unacceptable!

It has good potential and that's were it ends. Most unfortunate.

I want to write a good review for this game, I really do. When i bought it i had hoped for a great system to build castles and defend against sieges. But that is not what I got. The AI is messed up, and will do the bare minimum it can to help you build your supposed-to-be-amazing castles 30% of the time, at best. If you wanst to build something that they will actually make, you've got walls. And thats it. Its mechanics are good, with the mining system, and it certainly has potential. Dont get me wrong, make a half decent AI system and ill gladly re-write this review. But they havn't done that. They spend so much hard work on the visuals, that often they have to release new AI systems with little to no improvement. If this game improves in anything other than the visuals then maybe you should buy it. Until then, no. Massive waste of good money.

this game has some potential to be decent but with where the game is already in production and numerous bugs along with a slow to react interface for commands and an incompetent ally reaction to enemies it is hard to see any real potential

Well early access buy and was so hopefull!!!!!
Found a unending nightmare of incompleet and unsuable features even at a base level like the bricktrons aka your yellow smurfs cant even locate there way up a stairs.

To say the least if you cant move your builders well its like trying to move the furniture why never getting off it.
That sounds great no more lifting and easy arangment of the furniture in thought. But otherwise usless ideal.

Same with this game sounds great in thought! Lacking on the actual part of using it.

There are so many loose ends in this game it is amazing.. It should be take of steam considering it is still on alpha and is 3 years old!!
As another person wrote - it is like burning your money!

The handling of camera is crewed.
ESC doesn't mean cancel the task you are doing.
There are no way to cancel one piece placed wrong, you have to cancel the who build
The workers sometimes just stand still..

This is from 15 minutes playing!
