RESULTS : Building Challenge - The Colossal Statue!

Wooh, what a challenge. We were a little worried the "Colossal Statue" theme might be too difficult, but once again, the community baffles us and completely blows our expectations out of the water. Seriously, I've had devs looking over my shoulder asking me "how the heck did they do that?" as I was sorting through the entries and I'm like, "well, you know, I taught them and stuff." Just kidding, seriously, you guys are great.

About This Game

Castle Story is a creative voxel-based strategy game in which you can build castles one brick at a time using an army of little characters called Bricktrons.

Your goal will be to explore a vast landscape full of mysteries and dangers, and defend your castle against onslaughts of hostile creatures and possibly other players.

The world of Castle Story takes place on flying islands, high above an infinite ocean. The islands are made of voxels, cubes made of various elements, which means you can dig, carve and build anything you can imagine in the landscape. Digging underground to gather resources, stacking bricks on top of each other to build a wall or even tunnelling through a mountain is all possible and even necessary to keep your Bricktrons safe.

Carefully designing your castle not only requires creativity and imagination, but thanks to pathfinding AI and physics simulations, Castle Story has layers of strategy and depth on top of an otherwise free-form sandbox experience.

Castle Story will be released for Windows & Mac (with possible Linux support once Unity4 is released).

Key Features

  • Build any structure you can imagine! Using 2x1 blocks, create structures that are not only good-looking, but also functional. Your Bricktrons need to be able to navigate your castle to build it and to keep the monsters out!
  • Physics! Watch a tower crumble to the ground realistically when its foundations can no longer support it. The entire world obeys to the laws of physics which means that you need to build cleverly so your castle can withstand attacks from projectiles and explosives.
  • Sandbox! Build a huge sprawling fortress, a single impenetrable bunker or a network of underground tunnels. The choice is yours. Castle Story rewards imagination and ingenuity.
  • Strategy! Command your Bricktrons as they build your castle brick by brick. Manage the way they work, what resources they gather, and the places they explore. Use your resources to build weapons and armor for your Bricktrons and all kinds of upgrades for your castle.
  • Combat! Using shields, swords, bows and lots more, your Bricktrons can defend themselves against the hostile creatures inhabiting the world of Castle Story. Lead your Bricktrons through tough fights, and use your wits to gain an advantage. You can even build catapults to rain destruction on your foes!
  • Magic! The world of Castle Story is permeated with all kinds of magic. Discover resources with magical auras and learn to mix them to create effects. Explore strange places and find mysterious artifacts left behind by unknown civilizations.

The game is quite lovely tbh . I mean I like the idea of building your fortress while being raided by .. creatures but the game needs A LOT of new content and polishing.. After all it's just in early access .

The price is a bit higher for a game in its current state but the ones who want to enjoy this cool idea will play it gladly .

Just to set the record straight, and im not overly invested in this game, this is one of THOSE early access games. The people saying its awful or ♥♥♥♥ are somewhat wrong. By that i mean, it isnt the best right now, but back when i bought it the game was unplayable garbage. 10x worse. It HAS been getting better (and playable) so if you do plan on buying this game be prepared to wait for updates to roll around.

Great game, you got building. control of unit's or groups, different types of weapon's. can recreate the landscape. raise, they just need more unit type's. maybe a few weapon's. an in my opinion just needs a good well rounded out multiplayer. then all those bad reviews would just not matter. good game's speak for themselve's. keep up the work guy's

I REALLY WISH I would've seen this game completed by now. Ive been in 3 relationships, had 5 jobs, graduated with my associates, then graduated again with two bachelors, got accepted into grad school, and moved out. I literally obtained more degrees than this game has released substantial updates.

As a steam member of over 7 years, this is my second ever review. I have lost hope. Stay away, better games of this genre have come out and developed faster than this one.

I backed this game on kickstarter many moons ago. I thought this would be a fun castle building / smashing game. Years later, this game is very boring. The AI and path finding is terrible. The game sufers from constant frame rate stutter even with core I7, 32GB RAM, and nVidia 970Ti. It takes forever to harvest resources and build anything worth while. Even if you do, there isn't really a point to anything. If you haven't bought this game, try Stonehearth instead.

After playing a few games through I was in. I love the idea of this game and I look forward to the devs fixing the game breaking bugs. The pathfinding leaves much to be desired. Your knock-off minon characters, while adorable, aren't the brightest little guys. The building UI is difficult to use and the game seems unbalanced. It takes ages to build anything defendable and I frequently found myself just staring at my screen waiting for my structure to be finished.

I anxiously await the bugs to be squished and I will definitely be giving this game another shot after an update... hopefully soon.

I say I recommend this game but you may want to add it to your follow list and check it out again after it's gone through an update or two.

Side note thing: I think this game has a really good idea. I think the game itself is amazing too. I have no idea why people hate this. Every problem they said they had has never happened to me. I do think $20 for this game might be a little too much though. I think it would do better if it was atleast maybe $10-$15? I wont stop supporting these devs (No matter how much hate they get) UNLESS, this game utterly fails. Then id have no reason to support this game if it utterly fails.
Anyway.
Castle Story is a Resource Management,Survivalish game. You build castles and protect your castle along with a crystal that can summon warriors, archers, and workers. There are 2 different modes right now (Sandbox, and Survival) There is also a tutorial you can take too. Which I would reccomend.
Pros: +Great idea
+Characters move just fine for me
+Nice music
Cons: -A bit buggy with building (It is Early Access)
-Devs are a bit slow (but I dont mind)
Thats all I have to say for now, This is all my opinion.

What the hell happened? Saw a trailer for this game ages ago, and it looked amazing. So when it appeared on Steam, I figured ♥♥♥♥ it, why not.
I've had this game for at least a couple years. As you can tell by my play time, it didn't exactly rope me in.
It's boring. The mechanics are anything but intuitive. The updates are pathetically rare. The game just isn't fun. The devs couldn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about it. It's a dull jumble of tiny, uninteresting and bland maps with equally disappointing wonky controls and annoying glitches.
Seriously, screw this game. Such bright potential, wasted.

I really want to like this game. But survival mode is just to damn hard. They need to give you more options, you start off with one warrior and one archer... ok... then the timer between waves is just too short. Considering how slow the bricktons build. I'v been playing survival on the small map for awhile now & i still haven't even came close to erecting an actual castle.

Other little stuff annoy me like beartraps and how you manually have to lay and fix every single one. The lack of hotkeys!!! Or how you can't pause in build mode. For example i burned all of my time trying to figure out how to landscape and had like 2mins left before next wave. Also can we get a 'King' unit, a brickton that really breaths life into the game? Idk either that or give me more options... let me set the timer at least because its just too short and the bricktons are too slow its so damn annoying.

I want to recommend this game but i can't

(Patch 0.6) Since the first beta, i try every new patch, and i've always been disapointed by the way everything was slow and unsteady. I think that this patch is a turning point. It was the first time that the game got hard, and it was fun like that. The Bricktrons now move with no hesitation, they build fast and the most impressive part : the combats are now epic! The Minitrons are flying everywhere, most of the action is fluid, the pathfinding is fast and the AI look like it understand what is going on (they don't exaggerate when they say the pathfinding is 100X faster or more). Still, beware, this game is far from finish, but i have a good feeling about the upcoming releases. Bravo à toute l'équipe de Sauropod!

After the 0.6 update, Castle Story is now the game that it was always meant to be. You can take your time building a fortress and you are not constantly under threat of an ever increasing number of enemies. Attacks are random so you must be prepared at al times. You can capture more crystals to have your population cap grow. ALSO!!!! I looked at a ton of the negative reviews and most of what they complain about has been fixed by this point.

I brought this game a couple of years ago and it has been a dog to run, So i put it to one side and every now and then i would see it when clearing my Steam library and have a play and still it would be horible, than suddenly i see a update a day ago and thought "I will give it one more try " and suddenly it worked and i was enjoying it. it is like the developer has pulled the sinking ship out of the water and put a new hull on it and floated it out again, Now its not perfict there is a couple of small performance issues like slight delay when ordering the Bricktrons around (feels like they are having a quick think before acting) and that the pathfinding is a bit hit or miss (mostly hit) . But the main thing is that i suddenly enjoyed making the castles and would feel that multiplayer with pvp will be great fun smashing each others buildings down. I wish this happend a year ago and that the game can recover from such a negative low review points, As it has a great feel now and hopefully the positives will be felt by the developers who will then bring more building choice and content for it.

Let me begin by saying this game was awesome on paper. Seeing what they were promising with a final product excited me even more. This is not my first rodeo in terms of Early-Access. I know full well that games are not created over night, but I have had this game for more than a year. I see updates to the multiplayer, and hotfixes and the like, and just am wondering what the f*** these develop[ers are doing? It certainly isn't streamlining their product. There is just one thing you need to know about this game it: THIS GAME IS UNPLAYABLE. Don't come at me with the 'it's still in development' or 'your system sucks' or any of that because that is not the issue. Plenty of games are early access and they can run. My friend and I ahd better luck playing multiplayer a year ago than we did today. Took a chance on this game on early access, and I GREATLY regret my purchase. Do NOT buy this game. Do NOT. They advertise that they have received a bunch of money from kickstarter, well it doesn't show. They must have spent it all on hookers and blow instead of hiring 3 more qualified programmers to help with their game. People with degrees from community colleges can make a better product in the amount of time that this game has been in early access. Save yourself the trouble and don't buy one more gram of coke for these bozos.
