Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons is a short but sweet(ly melancholy) story-driven adventure game with a noteworthy "single-player co-op" control system, which has the player simultaneously leading both of the titular brothers by use of the left and right joysticks and triggers of a gamepad.

Despite having only a short playtime - with less than 5 hours needed to see the whole game through and collect all of the achievements - and a lack of distinct replayability outside of nostalgia, Brothers is still commendable for its rich environments and creative level design, allowing for a whimsical and thoroughly enjoyable experience.

I can only think of three personal criticisms regarding this title - outside of minor bugs and glitches I encountered during my playthrough - and they are all rather minor.
Firstly, the atmospheric nature of the game left me somewhat bored in terms of the audio, given that there were several sections wherein no music was playing.
Secondly, I have to agree with other reviews regarding pricing; my advice is to pick us this title during a sale or - as I did - if you should ever find it in a Humble Bundle (games for charity!).
Finally, I would like to note that Brothers is just a tad awkward to play with a Steam Controller without a bit of tweaking to the controls.

However, none of these points are enough to detract me from giving a recommendation, and they are minor jabs at an otherwise great game.

This is one of the most beautiful games I have ever played. A masterclass in visual storytelling. If you like Ico then I think you'll really love Brothers - A Tale Of Two Sons.

In the game you conrtol two brothers (one with each control stick) through a gorgeous fantasy landscape as they seek a cure for their dying father. On the way, they must oversome a series of fairly untaxing puzzles. Though very gentle in its difficulty level, the puzzles are so well correographed that you still get a real sense of achievement. Similarly, despite a gteneral lack of peril throughout, when rare moments of action arise, its pulled off with aplomb

I cannot stress how beautiful this game is and though not massivley long (5-6 hours) its the perfect way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon.

What am I supposed to feel after playing this game... O_O;

Overall: 9.5/10
Visuals were breathtaking. This point alone is worth playing the game for. Gameplay leaves you guessing what youre supposed to do next but its more like playing through a visual novel. Story is okay and music could have more depth but overall one heck of a game.

MIssed a lot of achivements and for some reason Im okay with that... The game was gorgeous enough to just run though it and not think about missables...

But seriously, im gonna go lie down and think about life for a bit. Sigh... > . <;

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons is an isometric adventure/puzzle game.
After hearing what people like TotalBiscuit and some of my friends said about this game, I was expecting a masterpiece. Maybe that was the reason why I was disappointed in it. The story, while interesting, was a passing linear thing that I just got through. I never really cared about the characters or anything else. It might've been just me being an uneducated swine, but at the same time, I'm not sure that that is the case. When playing games like TWD S01 and S02, I had feelings. Same with some other games like Spec Ops: The Line. It gave me something to think about. I was able to associate myself with the character and put myself in their shoes. In this game though... not so much.
The reasons might be that you're controlling the two brothers separately and since I controlled them both, I always had a disconnect. It could've also been the fact that there was no backstory (intentional by the publishers) which could've made me care.
Now, the soundtrack is excellent, I must say. Is it a good soundtrack to listen outside of the game? Nah, not really. Is it good in the game and thematic? Hell yeah.
Same goes with the environments. They're beautiful. The creatures you encounter, the areas you're in. The developers had a heck of an imagination and it was truly beautiful to look around.
While the story wasn't really engaging, I won't say that it wasn't good. Just because I can't get into it, I can't just say that it's bad. Subjectively it was ok. Objectively it was pretty damn good.
The reason why other people might've gotten into it was the soundtrack itself. If I were a person to feel emotions like a stable person, not a 90-year old serial killer in his death bed while receiving a blowjub from a Ukrainian ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I might've enjoyed this game more.
As for the achievements, all I can say is that they're easy to get if you look around the map. 12 achievements in total, which can all be aquired in your first playthrough.
The length of the game is about 2 hours or so, but it took me 3 in total to get the achievements.
As for the price: I got it from the Humble Bundle. It was on the first tier, a.k.a. one dollar split with some other games. Was that worth it? Yeah. Is it worth the full price? Maybe before, but since it's been so cheap before, I won't deny, the full price isn't worth it anymore. You'll probably be able to trade it for about 20 trading cards or some other cheap bundle game. The monetary value is low, but the experience you'll get from this will be from average to extremely amazing. Depends on the type of person you are.

So, do I recommend it? Yeah.
Do I recommend it even if you're not into these types of games? Yeah, still, since it's so darn cheap.

(Pretty good, seeing as the average game is a 5/10)

A beautiful (yet flawed) fairytale experience. Still a worthwhile experience that I would recommend to anyone.

The game is short, emotional, and overall quite enjoyable, but I personally can't overlook some of it's flaws. The gameplay and puzzles are approachable although I sometimes got confused on which one I thought I was controlling. The story on its surface is very intriguing, but throughout, all I thought was, "how are we going to get back home?" Spoiler: A great big dues ex machina which very well could have worked if it was just done a bit better. I also was shocked by the things that you do in a few points Prying the slaver's fingers off of the ledge so he falls (assuming to his death) was just brutal. And then there was the whole scene in the giant's graveyard where you mutilate the corpses of the fallen giant soldiers (well, maybe only two, but still). And then you run over all the "snowmen" with the catapult, I guess they're all dead, but still, wow. And then pulling off all the legs of the spider girl... I'm fine with violence, but this all just caught me a bit off-guard.

And just the way that throughout it all with all the detours made, somehow the brothers always got closer to their goal. It's just hard to imagine that was the plan all along (major loss of suspension of disbelief)... And maybe I'm a sucker for happy endings, but I honestly think it would have been better if the whole spider thing didn't happen, maybe the dad could have died instead? I guess the scene before the gryphon comes in the end is pretty powerful though, great cinematography there, the way he hugs his brother, man. Oh well, it's good, it just could have been better I think...

Perhaps I'm too critical?

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons is an Action Adventure game set in a fantasy world.

You're Naiee and Naia, two brothers whose father is dying. After taking him with the village’s doctor, he says the only cure lies in the waters of the Tree of Life, then, Naiee and Naia embark on a journey to the tree, hoping to save their father, but the world is huge and dangerous, beautiful and dark.

Words don't do it justice, I've played many games over the years, but nothing like this, something not only enjoyable, but also soul touching. Here, you’ll forget about everything, while drowning in a beautiful story, worth every praise it has already gotten.

this is a beautiful short game that's pieced together admirably, and it's one that i've become enamored with ♥

it's certain that the story itself is the pillar of this game's foundation while puzzle-solving stands as an inferior element. i personally didn't find that to be an issue since i'm not opposed to a non-challenging game as long as it still has its merits, which in this case, it does. although the playthrough (generally between two to six hours) is quite momentary, the wonderful quality makes it worthwhile.

i was pleased by the unique, simple-to-grasp gameplay and non-complex obstacles that merged flawlessly with the story's fluidity. each transition was a passage full of adventure-- i found delight in being met with lovely little surprises like riding mountain goats and sailing on a sky glider. i'd also pace my course throughout the scenic journey so i could appreciate the landscape encompassed by an enchanting ambience. as for the brothers, they were personable characters with a charm suitable for the heartfelt story. my fondness towards them progressed alongside the heroic tale, and with that, so did my devotion to their valorous pursuit. inevitably, this endearing story steadily tugged at my heartstrings until i fell in love with the entirety of it.

This game was a short but marvelous and breath-taking adventure that immersed me immensely in the short amount of play-time.
Story: 10/10
Controls (Steam Controller): 9/10
Audio: 9/10
Soundtracks: 10/10
Immersion: 9/10

[While I do recommend this game, I will have to agree with the negative reviews concerning the price for an approximately 2-3 hour long game. Also speaking about negative reviews I would recommend not reading them since they are mostly complaints about controls not being so great (somehow?), story not explaining everything to them (since they seem to lack creativity or an inability to think on their own), and finally complaints about the characters not speaking a real language.] Back to the matter at hand though, I recommend this game (especially to those with a sibling(s)) because, the story, which was and is the focus of this game, was fantastic and really provoked various emotions within me the entire way through, along with the controls contributing quite a bit to the immersion of the game (especially for me since I was on a Steam Controller) and also the beautiful and gruesome sceneries adding even more immersion, in the end I completed this game fully satisfied with finishing it and I would definitely come back to replay it.

A beautiful game with a story line fit for a movie. It is truely an amazing tale of the unfairness of life and how two brothers over came them . Everything is a gamble in life and this game shows that no outcome is truely without consequence.

The graphics are creative and diverse, from mountain tops, to tree forests, to the depths of caves and water. This game brings to life an epic journey through its amazing artwork. Lastly the sound (music and voices) are not overly done, by being subtle in the background. This lets the visuals shine and be the true show case of the story telling.

I highly recommend this game for its amazing ability to tell a story of life, with it's realism and understanding, without becoming predictable or boring. Congratulations to the developers and I wish more games were this memorable and immersive!

I give this 5 out of 5 Beers!

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons is often named as one of the best example of games that use the tools proper of the video game medium in a way that no other does.

The main "gimmick" of the game is the fact that you control the titular two brothers at once, using one analog control stick and one "action" button for each.
This mechanic, alien at first, quickly becomes second nature, letting you fully enjoy your travels through beautiful scenery following the brothers on a quest to find a cure for their dying father.

Talking about storytelling, that's another way Brothers sets itself apart from most other games, as the simple, fable-like story is told using gameplay and rare in-engine cutscenes.

You find out the personality and quirks of each brother by the way they interact with each other and with the people and creatures they encounter during the journey. You understand the power of their brotherly bond by the way they help each other out solving puzzles or getting out of difficult situations. All of this without ever having to read or hear a single word.

I would 100% recommend Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons if it wasn't already clear enough, as the way the game marries its storytelling to its mechanics is truly fascinating and definitely worth the 2 to 4 hours needed to complete it.

This is a fantastic game but it's quite hard to justify what makes it that good.

* The story is decent but not as good as people make it look like. It's simple and it does the job but that's about it.
* The controls (I'd recommend a controller) are simple, can be obnoxious at times but you get used to them.
* The game is really easy when you get past the controls, there is hardly any challenge and the few challenges you face are quite easy to beat.
* The world and graphics are great. No cons here.
* The voice acting (they speak in an invented language) can be a bit mediocre at times but it does the job.

So why is this game so good? Everything works together and the mediocre elements of this game, since they are so well implemented, instead of dragging the game down, make it better. This game wanted to tell a story and everything in that game worked towards that objective.

This is trully a different game and a must play.
