Beautiful, magic game.

Interesting and original puzzles, incredible one-of-a-kind storytelling, marvellous soundtrack.

You definitely should play and complete this game. It's rarely to find that much worthy of doing so.

At 70% off, the unique controls (controller two characters with one controller really gives your brain-hand coordination a workout) and emotional story were absolutely worth the cost. That said, if I had paid full price of $15.00 for this 5 hour game I would be seething with anger. Four to five hours was probably the right length, but the game is basically a novelty, so know that you are paying for pretty graphics and about 5 minutes of "Wow, that's a cool control scheme."

A game that is much more than the sum of its parts, and a charming expedition into the territories of family, loyalty, and friendship.

It's not about the game mechanics, which are innovative and fun.
It's not about the quaint and beautiful vistas presented throughout.
It's not even about the heartfelt humor and interesting characters that champion its interactivity.

It is a story of sorrow, love, and joy.

It is about a sacred bond.

That of brothers.

I beat it offline and,,, its not a game for me. I don't connect with the story or world. That is honestly why I don't recomend it. There is little that makes the player want to go through the world and why do I care about these childern or their dad? There is little to connect the player to the kids. I like games with richer/more developed charaters. This game does not fill that void for me. I have heart of stone and I need a lot of build up to pull at my heartstrings, If you are the same, avoid this game or pick it up on sale if you want a go of it

Brothers is a deceptively simple puzzle platformer that has quite a bit going on under the covers. Its story is told almost entirely wordlessly, with a lot of little side excursions that paint a world of fairytales that is actually quite dark. Don't let the bright graphics and cartoony characters fool you -- while there are some funny and uplifting moments, this is not a feel good game. It's not deliberately out to depress you either, but it's more brothers Grimm than brothers Warner. I'm not saying you shouldn't let your kids play it, but I am saying you may want to look over their shoulder if they do.

Believe it or not, this is the game I bought a controller for. I borrowed one to see if the game was any good (it was) and then I completed it after buying one for myself. It's not easy to convince a hardcore mouse and keyboard guy to twiddle the sticks, so it deserves credit at least for that. It deserves some more credit for possibly being the very first game to use its control scheme to evoke an emotional response. I can't get into details (spoilers!) but you'll know it when you get there. It's beautifully done, and you'd need to have a heart of stone not to be at least a little bit affected. If you remember "press F to pay respects", this is pretty much the exact opposite of that.

The gameplay is just about right. It's not very challenging, but it's not a cakewalk between cutscenes either. The game does make the most of its controls, and coordinating two characters requires your full attention. Liberal use of checkpoints means you're not likely to get frustrated from having to replay bits, though. If the game was much longer the mechanics might wear thin, but its length works to its advantage here. My only gripe, if I can have one, is that one or two achievements are almost impossible to obtain without a guide, not because they require skill but because they require some very unintuitive actions. Still, this in no way detracts from the experience on your first playthrough, and the game allows you to replay chapters at will, so those who want the achievements can get them easily enough.

Whether you want to pay the full $15 for 4-5 hours of game is up to you, but even if you want to wait for a sale (or another bundle), this deserves to be in your library at some point or another. Two thumbs up, one big and one little.

Not family friendly!
Nonetheless, a great short game with great mechanics.
The views are absolutely beautiful.
This game is emotional.

Also, it is best to play it with your friend, or even better, your BROTHER.
Worth my money.
Have my thumbs up, Starbreeze

Explains the plot through gameplay rather than exposition.

A lot of classic games either skimped on discussing any plot or simply didn't have the technology to incorporate a complex storyline. By reducing voiced character interaction to a minimum and having them speak in a foreign language, the player is left to interpret the story; a compelling and central aspect to this indie contender.

I've been told that this is one of the very finest games ever made and while I understand the appeal and certainly agree its worth your time, I don't think it belongs on the pedastal so many critics have garnished it with.

Despite clocking in at three hours, the game felt much shorter as it seemed to just fly by. Every blink I took was accompanied by a huge transition in location. Before I knew it I was adventuring in a completely different place, each one bearing its own set of rules and all goverened by the same overarching objective (venture forth and get your sick dad some medicine).

You'll never feel stressed and even dying won't set you back more than a few moments. Progress is blocked by a handful of simple, contextual puzzles. This is the perfect game for relaxing with one day.

Perhaps the strongest point and what makes this game so unique is that like Mario and Luigi RPGs you'll be controlling two characters (who can't typically sepraate far from one another). The way they both interact with the expansive world made everything come to life. One brother would kneel down to pet a sheep and the other would pick it up and carry it with him. One would admire the caged bird and the other set him free.

This game's been on sale before so try to pick it up on the cheap. I snagged it for about three bucks. You'd have to enjoy a AAA game for sixty dollars proportionately if you wanted that sort of value.

Damn this game hits you right in the feels.
Sure, the 2 player mechanics may be awkward at times but they really incorporate the controls into the story.

Definitely a must-play for anyone with a 360 controller.

Very enjoyable and atmospheric game.
Beautiful scenery, music and story.
You get rewarded for exploring and interacting with the world.
Somewhat short, and you need a controller to play, but that shouldn't stop you from playing it.

"Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons" is a short and simple 3D adventure game with a truly beautiful art style. The intriguing control scheme adds some needed depth to gameplay that's otherwise fairly shallow, and the soundtrack is haunting and generally spectacular. It's unsurprising to me that this game is well regarded by so many people.

With all of that said, however, I thought the needlessly depressing 'narrative' (there's no dialogue) utterly ruined the experience. In aiming for some deep level of emotional impact, all the developers and writers actually managed to achieve was making the game feel remarkably pointless and unsatisfying. As the credits rolled after completing my playthrough, which takes at most a couple of hours (playing very slowly), the only thing really going through my mind was "this was a waste of time".

I had heard only spectacular reviews for this game, and this seems to be replicated in the Steam reviews here, so I was really hoping to love it. When it came down to actually playing it, though, I just really didn't.

As I said, the other reviews suggest that there's a good chance you'll love the game. Personally, the short length and flat narrative means I definitely wouldn't bother picking this up unless you're absolutely desperate to try it, and be sure to manage your expectations - perhaps if mine hadn't been so high, I would have enjoyed it rather more than I did.

Short indie adventure from Starbreeze that perfects the unique art of telling its compelling and evocative story through its gameplay. A gorgeous world, stunning soundtrack, and a truly captivating finale which will leave you speechless really make this title stand out. The emotionally powerful ending alone - again sculpted by the player controlling the gameplay - makes this is not one to miss. Controller heavily recommended.

1 - A masterpiece. An essential purchase for everyone.

2 - Great game. Highly recommended to most people.

3 - Fairly good game. Recommended mainly for fans of the genre or when on sale.

4 - Poor game. Not recommended but has a few merits.

5 - Awful game. Would not recommend to anyone in their right minds.
