Reviews

“Smartly built, endlessly entertaining, and unexpectedly heartwarming, Dadliest Catch manages to turn an utterly ridiculous concept into one of the most surprising games in recent memory.”
9/10 – EGM

“Octodad is a great example of a game that conveys a message through gameplay. In conjunction with its story, characters, and setting, the controls offer an empathetic look into the life of an extreme outsider trying to fit in and trying to do right by his family. I love that. Gaming is growing up, and Octodad is some of the best evidence of that.”
91/100 – VentureBeat

“Octodad: Dadliest Catch has one of the great comic premises ever attempted in video games...For much of Dadliest Catch's playtime, everything works in a kind of chaotic harmony, creating comedy out of every day situations that are, unsurprisingly, ludicrously challenging for a cephalopod in a suit.”
4/5 – Giant Bomb

About This Game

Octodad: Dadliest Catch is a game about destruction, deception, and fatherhood. The player controls Octodad, a dapper octopus masquerading as a human, as he goes about his life. Octodad's existence is a constant struggle, as he must master mundane tasks with his unwieldy boneless tentacles while simultaneously keeping his cephalopodan nature a secret from his human family.

In this sequel to the splash hit Octodad, our cephaloprotagonist has gotten himself in a bind between his wife’s mounting mistrust, and a disastrous trip to the local aquarium! Are you dad enough to control the titular octopus father as he strives to hide his nautical nature from his family while keeping his tangled tentacles intact?

In Octo-ber 2010, a group of university students released the original Octodad into the world. Despite everyone being convinced that the game was about a normal human dad, the game was a cult hit, gained critical acclaim, and was an Independent Games Festival Student Finalist in 2011. Octodad received enough attention that the team decided to run a Kickstarter, form the game studio Young Horses, and create a bigger, better, more polished game about Octodad. Two and a half years after beginning production, Octodad: Dadliest Catch is ready to flop awkwardly into your arms.

Key Features

  • Octodad’s wacky physics create hilarious moments that are different every time. Be surprised by the randomness of Octodad’s flailing or express your own sense of humor by making Octodad do silly things.
  • An all-new adventure that explores Octodad’s world, relationships and backstory.
  • Complete Octodad’s sartorial style by collecting and wearing a variety of hidden neckties.
  • Gather family members and/or friends to control Octodad's limbs in co-op mode with 2 to 4 players. Up to 4 times the limbsanity!
  • Gain access to the (Windows Only) level editor that the Young Horses used to create Octodad: Dadliest Catch. Create your own ridiculous levels for Octodad to squish and flop through and submit them to Steam Workshop.
  • Play mod levels created by the Steam community and the creators of Octodad on Steam Workshop. (PC/Mac/Linux)
  • Experience Dadliest Catch’s unique control scheme with various control inputs, including X360, DualShock4, Mouse + Keyboard, Mac multitouch trackpad, Windows 8 touchscreens. For gamepads, XInput is best supported, as DirectInput requires manual remapping in most circumstances.

A deep, engaging parable about the masks we all wear in modern society. Nah, it's about an octopus in a suit and the nightmare of controlling him as he goes shopping.

Hilarious, actually fun to play and pretty technically solid. The only real negative here is the short length for the price. 3 hours of fun and you've seen everything.

An inspiring tale about a man with cerebral palsy just trying to live his life to the fullest and chase his dreams.
Assist this amazing disabled man in every day tasks such as feeding his family, making coffee, mowing the lawn, and grocery shopping. Smile and wipe a tear or two from your eye as you help him fulfill his aspirations, enjoy family vacations and even marry a beautiful understanding woman who truly looks past his disability and is able to see the handsome inspiring man that he is.

This game is ridiculous! I love it. The supermarket level was a bit difficult (to get the frozen pizza), but otherwise great game.

Great game, I wish it didn't end so quickly. Amazing story-line and really got my emotions going. Whenever I saw or heard that Chef I would flip my ♥♥♥♥ and run like crazy. The soundtrack is amazing and very intruiging. Such a charming and brilliant game. Please make a sequel. The ending was great and so were the cutscenes, I would recommened this game to everyone. Thanks for the amazing game and I hope you make a sequel. <3

A great game to play after a stressful day (or competitive game). Definitely a game that everyone should play at least once! I mean, why wouldn't you want to be an Octopus and a Dad?

That was so silly and cute :3
Made me feel like a kid again.
After 2 minutes, I was already destroying my wedding's reception room, too occupied raving with my tentacles.
But don't worry it's just a warm-up since everything will be scattered every time you leave a place.
No wonder I have to go to the grocery store so often, seeing how much food I drop everywhere.

I finished the game in one seating, which is pretty rare for me.
There was always new cutie objectives to complete one after the other.
It's sometimes hard to control your mouvements but I guess it's the price to pay being an octopus dad.
Bought it on special (4$) and glad I did because it's short.

P.S. Don't go to the aquarium, nope, nope, nope.
P.P.S. You can wear fancy accessories, eh yes please? Fantastic.

This game is a great outlet to just goof off and pretend to be an octupus who had to much to drink. Being a destructive octopus in this game is great and orginal and isn't some copy of another game, the story flows well, the charecters are unaware of the identity of Octodad, and the game is overall just fun.

The only problem I have with this game is it being very overpriced, Luckly I was able to get it for $5 while it was on sale, but the normal price is far too high. Although this game is fun and silly, the story is short and simple and not worth the price of 15 dollers, I've only logged 2 hours into this game and I'm already halfway finished!

This game is great but if you want to buy it I would wait till the price is deducted or until it goes on sale.

I was inspired to buy this game, after watching TotalBiscuit and his wife play the game. When they played it, they had a blast and it was hilarious to watch.

After buying the game myself and playing it with a friend as local co-op I have to say that I did not enjoy it. The gameworld and its humor are adorable and the concept of chaotic controls are very interesting, but in co-op it needs to persons who are able to roleplay and immerse themselves in the role of the Octodad. Without this the game is bland and the gameplay repetitive for menial tasks.

Another huge disappointment for me was how the co-op was implemented.
Without a controller no co-op is possible at all!
Even if you have one available, like I did, the controls are unevenly distributed, with one player controlling three limbs with the controller and the other using the mouse to control only one single arm.
This takes away the most fun of the control scheme, as there is no chaos ensuing between the two players.

I am severely dissatisfied that this was not communicated.

So unless you own a controller for each person who wants to play, who are all willing to immerse themselves in roleplay and you really don't care about the money you will spend on this game, I will say not recommended.
