"This is not only a great example of a professional and credible free-to-play game, but it's also one of the best first-person shooters I've played. I am quite serious when I say that, too. This game is a serious FPS contender, and its freemium status should not diminish your expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend you jump in and give it a try. It'll cost only your time to give it a whirl, and I am certain that it'll be time well spent."
90 - Destructoid

"Great shooting mechanics and deep customization options make for an addictive combination, and its free-to-play model makes it easy to jump into with no upfront cost."
85 - IGN

"The matter is simple – the game is free to play and, if you take my word for it, an excellent shooter. In a perfect world, it would knock the CoD series on its ass."

O hře

Wage war with advanced weapons and technology in Blacklight: Retribution, a free-to-play, futuristic first-person shooter. Deploy devastating armored exoskeletons and utilize lethal hand-held weapons in vicious competitive modes.

The Hardsuit is the ultimate weapon. Powerful but slow, this armored suit packs a one-shot, one-kill railgun and a high velocity minigun to clear rooms... fast. Only by using teamwork, heavy weapons from in-game Weapon Depots and the Hyper Reality Visor (HRV), can players overcome the futuristic killing machine.
The advanced HRV enables players to see opponents, teammates, Weapon Depots and Hardsuit weak points through walls, but at the cost of all offensive capability.
Play with Hardsuits and the HRV alone or with a team of friends in one of Blacklight's tightly polished game modes. Current modes include: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Domination and King of the Hill, but more are on the way.

Customize weapons, armors, taunts and more down to incredibly detailed levels. Play with muzzles, stocks, ammunition and more. Even configure the advanced weapons available from in-game depots.

PunkBuster™ Anti-Cheat from Even Balance, Inc. is required to play Blacklight Retribution. This program will be installed alongside the game client.

Blacklight Retribution (BLR) is a very unique Free to Play (F2P) First Person Shooter. It has some unique mechanics that make it a different experience to games like Call of Duty or other F2P games like Crossfire and Soldier Front 2. I believe that Blacklight Retribution is the BEST F2P FPS currently on the market, but that doesn't mean that it has certain things that hold it back. I'll to a little Pros and Cons list of the game for easy comparison:

-BLR has extremely fun gameplay and even though it has its own unique mechanics with the Depots on the maps and of course the HRV (legalised wallhack) that every player has it is very easy for the new player to pick up and learn.
-Although the term 'Legalised Wallhack' might seem a little off-putting for a lot of new players, the game is actually balanced very well, not only in terms of the HRV, but all weapons and armour also.
-Australian servers :)
-NOT PAY TO WIN. Don't listen to people who say this game is pay to win. IT ISN'T. You can get Real-Money currency and use it to bypass the level lock on items, but these same items are available to players for a reasonable amount of in-game currency once they reach the required level. Now, people might still have the argument of 'Higher level gear is better', but since in the previous point i stated that the whole game is balanced, then it doesn't really matter. :)
-GP (currency made by playing matches and getting daily achievements, etc) is made very quickly and therefore permanently buying weapons, attachments and gear is quite fast. This is a very important point for me because going for long periods of time in games without unlocking new gear is a big turn off :)
-BLR has a good community. People are helpful and nice, and yeah, you'll run into an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ here and there but I don't really see too many of them.
-Dedicated lobbies for low level players. Hate being a new player and going into games with Max Rank players that have a lot of experience and are very good? Fear no more, lobbies that are set to only take characters levels 1-10 exist so that you can settle into the game and get some experience before facing the big guns :P
-There are a whole bunch of things that I'll list briefly here that are also pros: Fun gameplay, FoV Slider (yayyy!!!), huge range of attachments and gear, a lot of build possibilities - make your character truly unique, ZEN (Real-money currency) has arguably good value for what you get with it.

-LACK OF CONTENT UPDATES. Wow, this is such a big problem. Because of real-life things going on for me this year I didn't end up playing BLR for 3-4 months straight. When I finally jumped on the game recently I was expecting a big patch... NOPE. Nothing. You look at games like PlanetSide 2, which I had the same situation with and there was a frikkin 9gb patch for PS2. 9gb is a bit ridiculous to me but you know... at least the game is actually getting new content...

I know there are more cons to this game but I can't think of them right now... sorry :P

Well I hope this review helped, I am not sure if you can edit these reviews after posting them. If you can, I might update the cons section once I remember some things about the game :)

See you on the battlefield :)

Turn down a corner, pull up your Assault Rifle, customized with a holographic sight, a heavy stock, and a barrel which greatly increases your accuracy. In that hallway, nothing. Not one soul. You take a second and tap a key on the side of your helmet. Suddenly, the area around you turns darker, almost monochrome. And as you look around, you can see the orange and blue outlines of your enemies and team mates engagin in a firefight. But two of those orange outlines are running up to your hallway. Quickly, you toss a newly bought proximity mine on the wall near them and back up. They stop sprinting as they round the wall. A single beep rings out. The explosion kills both.

That happens all in a single round of Blacklight: Retribution. A free-to-play first person shooter which blows all others out of the water, both graphically and how fun it is. Most F2P games rely on gimmicks and exclusive power items bought with real money, ala Combat Arms and Alliance of Valiant Arms. And while BL:R's main gimmick is basically a legal wallhack, it makes every firefight more interesting. Blacklight: Tango Down and now Blacklight: Retributions main gameplay aspect which keeps it from being just another CoD clone is the HRV (Hyper Reality Vision), allowing you to see everyone and everything with a NETWAR signature, as long as its available. BL:R is set in the near-future, when the SIV virus in Tango Down has escalated. You play as your own agent, sent in by one of the various agencies to fight for the last available resources. While most of your time as a single-digit agent level will be spent in the newbie look-alike stage, the amount of character customization is great, much of your armor having an effect on your overall health, stamina, etc.

Weapon customization rivals Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. Receivers, barrels, magazines, scopes, stocks, weapon tags, and camo; all of these have plenty of universal parts, minus bullpup rifles and the two other SMG's. And like the armor parts, these all have effects on your weapon. Even the tags. And no weapon is truly overpowered, as much as I'd love to claim the AMR is. All are sidegrades of the standard assault rifle, with varying damage, recoil patterns, and firerates, not to mention ammo capacity. Such as the AK470, a personal favorite of many and myself. High recoil, heavy stopping power and low firerate.

While the game type most popular as of now is TDM on HeloDeck, many other modes are present too. NETWAR combines domination with capture the flag as both teams attempt to hold the points and protect the flag runner. Last Team Standing is a very S+D styled mode with out the bomb aspect. Onslaught, the co-op mode, plays very much like Killing Floor or CoD's zombies, though guns can't be bought and must be purchased before hand.

Purchasing is also easier. The game never forces you to pay for a weapon or armor piece with real money. Zen is a completely optional choice for those who wish to unlcock stuff early, or buy exclusive camos, or heroes, which are sidegrade agents with pre-set weapons and gear. All weapons can be bought permanently with GP, barring several items which can't be bought permanently with either method. And while it's a grind to get to the best gear's price ranges, there's 30-40 levels of XP boosts and GP boosts to help. After 40 you're on your own up to 50.

So if you want a good looking, stress-inducing-also-fun, free-to-play game, you're probably looking for Blacklight. Just look out for updates though. The launcher takes forever to download them.

Best F2P game I have played to date.

Graphics are top notch, even better than in some AAA-titles.
Customizing your guns with lots of different parts and finding out the combination which suits you best is great fun. Of course if you are impatient you better pay some money for some items you really want. In fact I put quite a lot of money into this game because I believe the developers deserve it.

Already played 250+ hours and still loving it.
