Play Blacklight: Retribution

Free to Play

"This is not only a great example of a professional and credible free-to-play game, but it's also one of the best first-person shooters I've played. I am quite serious when I say that, too. This game is a serious FPS contender, and its freemium status should not diminish your expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend you jump in and give it a try. It'll cost only your time to give it a whirl, and I am certain that it'll be time well spent."
90 - Destructoid

"Great shooting mechanics and deep customization options make for an addictive combination, and its free-to-play model makes it easy to jump into with no upfront cost."
85 - IGN

"The matter is simple – the game is free to play and, if you take my word for it, an excellent shooter. In a perfect world, it would knock the CoD series on its ass."
90 - Computer Games

About This Game

Take firefights to a futuristic new level in Blacklight: Retribution, a free-to-play FPS. See through walls with the HRV, deploy mechanized Hardsuits, and customize your weapons to dominate the opposition.

In Blacklight, mastering the futuristic tech is half of victory. You'll need to carefully balance your loadout, from the extreme customization possible in designing your firearms, to the equipment you carry and the in-match bonuses you can unlock. The Hyper Reality Visor (HRV) allows you to look through walls and spot enemies, and attack from where they aren't expecting - but be careful, because you're vulnerable while using it.

The other half of victory? Raw skill, same as it's always been. Good hunting, Agent...

PunkBuster™ Anti-Cheat from Even Balance, Inc. is required to play Blacklight Retribution. This program will be installed alongside the game client.

Key Features

  • Hardsuits - Use a variety of upgrades in each match, including calling in the hulking Hardsuit mech. Powerful but slow, this armored suit packs a one-shot, one-kill railgun and a high velocity minigun to clear rooms... fast.
  • Hyper Reality Vision - HRV Technology allows Agents to scout their enemies through the walls, pinpoint vital mission objectives, or locate weak points in an enemy Hardsuit.
  • Weapon Depots - Scattered across the battlefield are Weapon Depots that supply your team with additional ammo, heavier weapons such as a Rocket Launcher, or provide the ability to call down airstrikes and Hardsuits.
  • Free to Play! - Blacklight: Retribution is a fully Free-to-Play shooter. Earn Game Points (GP) after every match and use them to unlock various armor and weaponry for your Agent in game.
  • Customize Your Loadout - An Agent’s gun is their livelihood. Choose from 1000 different gun combinations by modifying your receivers with customizable Stock, Muzzle, Barrel, Magazine, and Scope, Camo, and Weapon Tags.

Some people are not happy at all with this game. I can understand why you'd say that. The community only has a few hundred people. There is very little recoil on the game. There's probably tons of other things you can talk about, all of which are more than likely legitimate complaints, which I agree with, but I still absolutely enjoy this game. I will therefore tell you what I like and dislike about it.

Let me tell you why I enjoy this game:

1) You can design your own gun (after buying the gun/gun parts with in-game currency that is free or currency that you must buy), and depending on your playstyle, you can get this gun to work anyway you want. Possibilities are endless.

2) You can design your own character (after buying the armor components with the currency I have mentioned above, including gear such as grenades or tomahawks). This doesn't mean just mean making your character as fancy as possible, because designing your character also means designing one that can fit your gameplay style. Do you want your character to be a slow, heavy tank that can take tons of damage? Do you want your character to be a light, extremely fast speed demon that can take unsuspecting players by surprise? Do you want a medium character that allows you to easily adapt to any map? The possibilities are endless.

Concerning the two points mentioned above: This is what I absolutely love the most about this game. You can literally do anything with your playstyle here. No weapon is OP or overused. No build is OP or overused. You can do absolutely anything. The only thing you need to worry about in regards to your character is that you need to consider your preferred playstyle before buying items, and once you decide to buy, you should always buy items relative to your playing style.

3) There are loadouts. In each loadout, you can design a special weapon and character build for it, meaning that you can change characters that can fight well on the game's map.

4) Just about any weapon, piece of armor, or gear item (grenades and tomahawks) is free on this game. Everything practical is free, so you can obtain these items with game currency that is earned from playing matches.

Here is what I dislike about this game:

1) Your guns have almost no recoil at all, meaning that everyone can spray and easily kill you. This makes the game unusually fast paced. You'll need fast reflexes to do well at this game.

2) Even though everything practical on this game is free and can be bought with freely-earned game cash, some items are just so crazy expensive that it literally will make you want to consider buying in-game cash. While I believe that people who make a game do deserve funds and support, I believe a line needs to be drawn between making a game pay-to-win and pay-to-support-so-we-can-make-this-game-better-for-the-community.

In my personal opinion, since just about everything practical on this game is free and can be bought with the free currency you earn on here, why not just get rid of the extra time that has to be wasted in order to obtain these free items? Why not let everyone basically have every single one of the players have these weapon components, armor pieces, and extra gear such as med kits and grenades so everyone has the unlimited freedom to create their own perfect character and gun builds that suit their playstyles? And really awesome looking cosmetic items require real cash?

3) There aren't many new players, meaning that the community won't grow. It's not that much fun when you realize there are only a few servers online. The few people who continue to play this game are hardened veterans. Keep in mind that if you're new, just remember not to give up. It only takes a matter of time for you to understand the mechanics of this game, and if there's one thing that pays off the most on Blacklight in terms of getting better, it is identifying your own playstyle. Once you've learned your playstyle and know the necessary equipment for your character to suit that playstyle, the game suddenly doesn't become so difficult anymore, even if you're up against vets. This does not ensure you'll become a master of the game, but your skill will definitely improve.

The bottom line is if you would still enjoy a game with a small community, one that gives you tons of options regarding character and gun builds, then you'll probably enjoy it.

Ya done ****ed it up! Since the update the population hasn't gone over 500 players, need I say more? I have a combined 3000+ hours over a few accounts andf for a while there you really did start to actually 'fix' the game...then the update came. Luckily there a some great FPS competitive games coming out this year! I won't be further supporting this game anymore pshh what a waste of of money I gave you all to support this game.

Yes, the devs are lazy little pieces of *you know what I mean*. But that doesn't mean that this game isnt a beauty. Even tho we never get any updates its a ton of fun trying out new builds, customizing everything and just jumping around. Do I recommend putting money into it? No not really, since you dont know if the devs will ever put time into the game again. But is it worth to download and jump into the game and have some fun? HELL YEAH. Whats the worst that could happen, its free..

This game actually plays quite well for what it is. A Free-to-Play/Pay-to-Win game. With my experience in similar platforms where it would make sense for it to just be broken, skill and experience still play a huge part in this game. I'm not great a shooters, but this game has a lot of interesting implimented dynamics that really help it stand out from the other F2P shooters.

Easiest way to burn a grand and get nothing in return!
Looking for fun? Look elsewhere
Looking to make a not fun game fun? Grab a stack of money
Looking to realize that the money you spent was wasted? Look here very closely
Looking for a game with mostly hackers? You found it!
So overall if you want to sink money into an endless pit only to be drowned out by hackers this is the game for you! If you want entertainment take about $1000 and turn it into pennies and count them every day to make sure none are missing!

Just don't play it until the devs reverse the damage they have done to it with the PS4 Parity Patch. This used to be one of the best games I have ever had the priviledge of playing, however the PS4 Hype literally killed it. When the PS4 came out it had a great ammount of pressure to succeed so Sony most likely ended up paying the Blacklight Retribution devs to port their game to the PS4. The devs complied and for a while forgot about the PC and simply updated the PS4 version a bit.

When the PC players saw the awesome content the PS4 was getting we were all hoping it would arive to the PC version as well so when the patch eventually came I was so excited just watching the installation bar inch forward. Greatest shock of my life when I finally entered in-game and found out that they had literally just copy pasted the ♥♥♥♥ they had on the PS4 without adjusting it in the least to the PC version. That meant:

- NO RECOIL (because PS4 players can't handle recoil with their controllers)
- The lack of recoil made gun customization pointless
- They changed the way toxic ammo worked making it almost game-breaking
- They removed a bunch of Ammo types they used to have
- The game does not take skill any more.
- Without the ♥♥♥♥ign recoil you're just gettign sniped from the other side of the map by an AR or SMG which is ♥♥♥♥ign ridiculous.

Thats my ♥♥♥♥ign list, nice things they inluded are:

+ new maps
+/- Compound bow (Which is ♥♥♥♥ing useless, because no recoil so it loses to any gun)

Just like all the FPS games on Steam it's hacked, full of cheaters who are willing to plunck down 15 to 20 bucks a month to use cheats to beat the game and beat you, so if your good with that then go ahead and play the game but you might as well pay for the hacks and then you might have a fighting chance, hackers against hackers a whole new game in it self.
Want to know where to buy the hacks well then try - {LINK REMOVED} that's just one website that offers those hacks for money of course, but you will get an aimbot where you don't even have to be aiming at your target to hit it, you also get a hack called the Wall Hack or ESP this allows you to see all players anywhere on the map at anytime, and there's a whole slew of other hacks you get for your bucks.
Of course all thses hacks are not legal for game play but they are undetectable so why not, well if you do get detected you will lose your account, you will be banned from the game but I really don't see this happening since players have been using these hacks since the game came out and they are still using them.
I'm not one to use hacks as that is a no skills level of play, so I either don't play the game or I play very little .
Remember this though all games on Steam are hackable so any other MMOFPS games probably have those same hacks, example Warface, Combat Arms, and so on.
Enjoy playing the game if you can but if your not using the hacks I doubt you will have much enjoyment.
