Recommended By Curators

"A side-scrolling stealth game with fluid movement, dry sense of humor, and unique mechanics that produce utterly hilarious results. Very short, though."

"Every aspect of its clever design, laugh-out-loud noir story, tiny but expressive art, and moody music work harmoniously with one another."

"The joy of Gunpoint comes from the clever ways you can make all the obstacles work to your advantage."

Steam Exclusive Offer

Purchase Gunpoint from Steam and receive an exclusive Team Fortress 2 item:
The Crosslinker's Coil
Did you know: before the mercenary fashion world discovered the obvious style and mental health benefits of wearing 22 feet of powered electrical cable around your head, people once wore hatbands made from 'silk' or other barely-lethal textiles! Strange but true.

Special Edition

The Special Edition of Gunpoint includes:

  • The Soundtrack: Includes all of the game's noir-inspired spy music in high quality MP3 format.
  • Developer Commentary: When enabled, you'll find little sprites of Gunpoint's developers on every mission. Talk to us to hear a little about our thinking behind the design (Tom), the art (John), and the music (Ryan).
Caution: shooting a developer while he's talking ends his current commentary track. This kills the developer.

Exclusive Edition

The Exclusive Edition includes all of the items in the Special Edition plus:

  • The Making Of Gunpoint: a 40-minute video feature taking you through how Gunpoint developed from a one-room test game to what you play today. Featuring Gunpoint's designer playing his earliest prototypes for the first time since they were made, to great personal embarrassment and shame.
  • The Prototype Pack (Windows only): Play snapshots of Gunpoint's development at 9 different stages, including cartoony programmer art, the first conception of the hacking system, many scrapped levels, and overpowered gadgets we later cut. For hopefully obvious reasons, we can't give technical support for these.
  • Exclusive Tracks: Bonus pieces produced specially by Gunpoint's composers for this edition, mixing the game's noir style with electronic influences. Since they're not used as background music in the game, our composers took the chance to be more adventurous with these tracks.
  • The Secret Beta Access List (betas may be Windows only): adds an option in the game menu to sign up to our Secret Beta Access List. If and when future Suspicious Developments games are developed, we'll sometimes give secret beta versions only to the members of this list.

About This Game

Gunpoint is a stealth puzzle game that lets you rewire its levels to trick people. You play a freelance spy who takes jobs from his clients to break into high security buildings and steal sensitive data.

To get past security, you'll need to make creative use of your main gadget: the Crosslink. It lets you see how all the security devices in a level are wired up, and then you can just click and drag with the mouse to wire them differently. So you can connect a lightswitch to a trapdoor, then flick it when a guard walks across to make him fall through.

Key Features

  • Rewire levels to work however you want
  • Trick guards into trapping themselves or shooting each other
  • Throw yourself - and others - through plate glass windows
  • Investigate a noir-inspired story of murder and espionage over 20 missions
  • Choose what to tell your clients, including lying to trick them
  • Choose your own playstyle: quick, quiet, non-violent, no living witnesses, or any combination
  • Discover new solutions to levels that no-one else has thought of
  • Buy specialist gadgets to suit how you want to play
  • All story stuff is skippable
  • Hardest puzzles are optional
  • No bosses - everyone dies in one shot, including you

Short, but sweet. Only 3 hours or so to complete the main game but a lot of fun. The innovative stealth and action mechanic is great, and funny as any game ive ever played. Gunpoint 2?

Smart, fun and challenging enough without being punishing. It has a great and unique game mechanic. I will always applaud to game developers who try something different, something new. The interesting use of stealth, hacking, puzzles and the level design is just superb. It's just a brilliant indie game that any type of gamer can enjoy. Unlocked all achievements!

I had already finish this game several time outside of steam before finishing it several times more while on steam therefor my playtime is not reflective of the game itself. Should be 3 - 4 hours tops.

GUNPOINT Developer: Tom Franchis and others.
Release Date: 3 June 2013
Genre: Platformer, 2D Espionage, Detective, Puzzle
Official Website:
What is Gunpoint? A stealth action platformer game made by an ex PC-GAMER editor Tom Franchis using gamemaker.

The game stars you as Conway, a freelance spy for hire who also happens to be a hat fancier. The game has you break into building quietly or if you happen to be a jerk, loudly, to accomplish your objectives and mission before getting the hell out. Also comes with the unique twist in the form of the wirejack module.
Option Menu Very Good

You have a wide variety of options to choose from rebindeable keys to colourblind options to the large range of resolution on offer. The only issue is if this incredibly basic game lags on your laptop then the best you can do is lower the resolution since there is no graphical option settings.
Graphic Good

The game is a stealth 2D espionage game therefor the main concern should be clean graphic style and easy to identify elements all which Gunpoint delivers very well. While the basic sprite based graphics aren't too much of a looker they do have their own charm in Gunpoint noir inspired setting. At the very least you won't confuse the background with the buttons.
Music/Sound Effect[MERGED] Music:The game has a soothing nostalgic jazz based music while in the menu screen and a quick jumpy music while in mission.

SFX: Very good, other than the fact that gunshot sounds like popcap gun, everything else is near perfect. Especially the SFX of the glass being smashed and guards face being pulverized.
Controls Excellent

You use the mouse to aim your bullfrog module and alt button to toggle your wirejack. For most part Conway controls well enough to not feel like you're controlling an ice skater in the middle of a competition.
Gameplay Now that I have written at length about Gunpoint other point lets touch upon its gameplay mechanic. Your character has a basic device called the Bullfrog Propulsion Module which is the mainstay of most of the mechanic. You press the left mouse button to aim a reticule and releasing the result in which Conway will propel himself rather weakly towards the direction you have given him.

The other highlight is the wirejack system where though a series of module you can buy Conway will turn the electrical grid to his advantage by rewiring doors, calling elevator and other such gameplay elements.

Other than that, it is a fairly standard stealth game. Guards have cones of vision that you can sneak through using the walls and ceiling or if you are feeling particularly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ you can just Bullfrog straight into them and punch them in the face. That is a legitimate gameplay element. But its not just 1 type of guard no, more will be introduced as you play through the story mode.

Mission usually involves you breaking into a building and either retrieve something or to hack something, basic stuff but the level design and short length of the game keeps it fresh.

After a mission your results will be tallied and you can acquire a skillpoint used to upgrade the Bullfrog charge time and power, the money you earn can also be used to purchase modules for Kenway which ranges from snuffing out the noise he makes when he smashes through glass to him having a gun to literally make a guard stand still at Gunpoint.

Another thing that should be touch upon is that while the game itself is linear the story outcome itself is not, choices of dialogue you made and the result that comes from it will indirectly influence how other character will think of you and will go so far as to change the ending itself.
Conclusion Recommendation? Yes I will say this a yes old chap. Its a fun quirky little game that does not overstay its welcome while having a rather deep story that encourages a few playthrough to get all of the ending. If you were to trust my words then yes I would tell you to get it and to get it at your convenience.

Scoring Methology:
-S-Rank: excellent
-A-Rank: very good
-B-Rank: solid
-C-Rank: satisfactory
-D-Rank: inferior

Verdict: S-Rank. [Short Quirky And Fun]

Extra Note This game has hidden achievement so the achievement hunter out there might want to use a guide to get it all but otherwise the normal achievement itself is easy to get.

The Special and Exclusive edition contains some extra goodies but if you do not feel like it then just get the one with the soundtrack, the tune is rather relaxing.

Also has steam workshop support so you can upload your own level or play with others to expand your playtime.
