One of the most fun / funny games ever made if you love old school games this one is for you and
this is very funny parody of old GTA style video games that still retains a level of enjoyment.

This game is a NES nostalgic dream. It isn't however, an NES game (just to make that clear)! It is a spoof of every game possible and it does a good job of synthesizing it together. Just get ready for both good and bad (lame) jokes.

The game is like the first version of GTA. You are able to move in 9 directions and shoot relatively to your position. Weapons are in abundance and in variety from golf clubs to shotguns to the bionic commando arm. Why is there? Why not... why not.

Any car (or bicycle or motorcycle) can be stolen. Cops chase you if you break the law and isn't as tedious as the GTA series. After running over enough cops you get a token that hides you from the police for a time being. Some cars can be modified (as well as your characters hair or skin) and are able to have weapons or a giant jet engine on it's back. Powerups are also available that can make your character fast or even allow him to fly like in Super Mario.

I like this game. I personally bought it on it's lowest sale price and do find the price slightly steep. If you do like this though it might be worth the purchase for you.

All in all - I'd give this game a 7.7/10. It's good, it entertains, but doesn't try to attempt to break away from traditional gaming. I would have loved to see the game take a bit more risks with it's gameplay.

It's 8 Bit GTA just even more silly. I mean seriously it is just like GTA, at least as much as I played of it which was about as much as I playd GTA 1!.

Ever played the original Grand Theft Auto games on PlayStation?
Did you like them?
Then you'll love this! This game uses the play style of the classic GTA games but with an 8-Bit twist! You'll experience lots of references to many games/movies during your time exploring the small, yet satisfying city of Theftropolis. Not only are the games missions/stages fun but there is lots of things to find, unlock and do outside of missions too! Just watch the trailer, it shows all you need to see to make a desicion on whether to buy this game or not.
But if you do buy it... I hope you enjoy it as much as I am :P

a great title with throwbacks to many classic games, though the only issue i experienced with the game is that is simulates not only the nostalgic feelings of the nes area but sadley also the "what do i do/go?" feeling that comes with old games

Decent gameplay, the main reason to bother with it is for all the crazy 80's and early 90's references. There are a few internet meme's strewn throughout and it's all very welcome in my books.

The retro game references are just superb though, with an entire section dedicated to the original TMNT NES cartridge among others, it's a blast to just experience the game as a whole.

The game had a lot of love put in to it, the music is incredible and I had to download the soundtrack afterwards and I still listen to it every once in a while.

Definitely worth a sale price purchase in the 10 to 15 dollar range.

I can't say much about the controls as it basically plays like a slightly better version of the original top view GTA games (1 & 2) mixed with an 8-bit NES style. The map can get a bit convoluted and collectables are a bit annoying to find even with a guide because of the shoddy graphics but it's still do-able with some focus.

The thing is you'll either love it or hate it... and if the references can't save you because you're too young to understand it, then you should probably stay away because it's all about the references, not so much about the gameplay.

This game is great. You can really tell it was a labor of love for the people who wrote it. Not just for the (actually amusing, which is rare these days) references but the art and completely pointless but still great settings like arcade screen borders and color style. I wish more games like this would happen. Too often we get 8 bit ♥♥♥♥ with bad art and content that hides behind the excuse of "but teh retro". This doesn't. It's actually better than the original GTAs.

Also the music is awesome.

References has always been part of every sector of entertaintment industry. Musicians puts hate or love to their lyrics, as the reference to someone or something, most of times, its affected them. Directors and screenwrites puts to their movies references of another famous movies or people affected movie industry. And so, game developers trying to put references of games, poeple who are/was or affected gaming industry. And sometimes, we can find developers from diamonds, who puts references of all kinds, into their game - Vblank Entertaintment. These guys made out of nothing something and that's Retro City Rampage (RCR) - little indie game, which contains more references, that megabytes that game has.

Most epic adventure for those, who was born before 1990, and biggest nightmare, and "Lost World" for those who wasn't. RCR be like - A-Team GMC van gonna run over you. Green pipes from Mario are everywhere. Brown Dog from my childhood is everywhere. First mission and first reference totally blew me away. School bus runs through the wall of the bank, to stole looted money (reference to Batman: The Dark Knight). And so, almost every minute, you'll find something, from your childhood, or not only.

Difficulty and game-design of this game is just tribute to good old video-game machines - tough difficulty, dozens of secrets, score multipliers, memorable characters, unblockable characters, crazy weapons, aliens and ♥♥♥♥.

If you looking for nostalgia, and wants to go back to your childhood, go for indies, Playstation 1/2 or Retro City Rampage.

PS: Main parallel of the game is Back to Future movie from 1985.

If you like retro games, parodys, and GTA, then this is the game for you. This is the first time in a while, where i would just run around, instead of doing the missons. This is a plain and simple fun, and funny game. I have only spent a few hours in it so far, and im just having so much fun. The retro 8 bit look is nice, the controls are simple, and it has full controller support. This is the type of game that you can play for 5 mins or and hour. While i bought it on sale, this game is worth the cost, if you like open world sandbox type games. If your thinking about picking it up, stop thinking and just get it.

Awesome game! Killer chiptunes, great spritework, sillyness galore! Just, don't explore everything before doing the story...you'll wind up going to places in the Story that you already found while exploring and it kinda ruins it. I wish I hadn't done that. :(

DX stuff:
+ The new cop system is GREAT! One of the most annoying things was constantly getting the cops on me accidently and having to sit around in a store till it passes. now you just kill them off the screen.
+ The new overlay is nice.
+ Scoreboards!
+ You can mark waypoints on your map now. Pretty awesome.

Unfortunatley, if you've already played through the game there's no real reason to play again because of DX, unless you just want to score on the leaderboards.
