Dzięki swojej ponad 25-letniej historii The Dark Eye stała się jedną z najlepiej rozpoznawanych marek gier RPG w Europie.

I have alot of experience with point and click games, but I always end up searching for help in a walkthrough whenever I get stuck. This time I wanted to do it all alone and with no help at all. I did also remove any options for hints/highlighter, and played it in hard mode. Very wise choice!

The game got an interesting, good history and the way I played it, it got even more interesting, but also more frustrating too. As I went through the game, trying to play it as logical as possible, I often ended up in dead ends. I decided to quit the game and think about it a while and continue later. To not spoil anyone, I can tell you that being accurate and using your eys and head helps alot.

When I played it like I did I was often really close to wanting to search help to get further in the game, even when I knew what to do, but not how to do it. It made me be on the brink of giving up, but not quite. When getting past those "harder" parts it felt good. I think this is how game should be played!

I am not quite done with the game yet. It has some achievements, I have been thinking about while I was playing the game. For my own good, I saved every time I got to a new place with no option to return to it, and hopefully that will make the achievements taking less time than necessary to do, but still have fun with.

This is a marvelous point-and-click game. The story, graphics, music and achievements are good and I've spent a great time playing it. Strongly recommended.

The only thing with this is that, by the end, it gets a little weird and the actions you have to do seemed a little illogical to me, but it is great game.

This game is well above average for the point-and-click genre of games. It, like the sequel, weaves a beautiful story with beautiful artwork and music, and is well worth picking up ("Memoria" is the sequel and is also available on Steam). Like all of this genre, there are some things to figure out which aren't necessarily intuitive, which can be frustrating. This is no worse than any similar game, however, and didn't detract from my enjoyment of the game.

The interface and inventory are very easy to use, which is much appreciated in a land of complicated inventory management and skill systems and perplexing (at best) UIs. For this genre, less is more in terms of making a player jump through hoops to work the interface. This game does just fine at that.

I've heard others say that the story isn't anything unique, but as I've never run into a story quite like this before, I'll politely disagree. There are some of the usual fantasy game tropes, but the overall story felt brand new to me. At least personally, I felt it was a beautiful story with some parts that were heartbreaking (caveat: I am a softie, so I might be more emotionally invested in the story than some are!).

The characters were all nicely handled; I especially loved Nuri's simple naivete, which the writers made work nicely by not confusing simplicity with stupidity. She is not stupid, even when her innocence about the "human" world gets her into trouble, and even when her inclination towards trusting everyone works against her. "Your humans are angry with me, Geron!" she says after opening the cages of a town's entire animal population. Her bafflement is endearing.

The artistry of the scenery and backgrounds is what really impressed me through both of my plays through. The attention to detail and sheer beauty of some of the backdrop scenes really showed hard work on the part of the illustrators, and I respect that. I have some screenshots uploaded from this game just because there were parts I went full-on tourist with the camera.

TL;DR: one of my very favorite games of the genre, beautifully done in terms of character, art, and music, and well worth picking up, along with the sequel, Memoria.

The Good:

+ Beautiful backgrounds that bring the world to life

+ Variety of unique locations set in a fantasy world

+ The story starts off a bit fast and confusing, but begins to make more sense the further along you go.

+ The puzzles make sense and find the right mix between fair and challenging. Although like every adventure game there are some that will test your patience. The puzzles are integrated well with the story.

+ Option to toggle hotspots on/off to help you. EVERY point and click adventure game should have this feature.

+ Lengthy adventure

+ Great voice acting

+ Good Soundtrack

+ Easy achievements

The Bad

- ending is very anticlimactic

The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav is a nice addition for anyone who´s into the point-n-click genre. Even though I´m not familiar with the Dark Eye World I found it an interesting setting. The story line is by no means original but the narrative still feels solid and keeps you as a player interested in seeing how the story will play out.

As other reviewers have done I will also recommend playing the game on hard difficulty since the game does become a bit to easy when played on easy with the help modes enabled. The main use I see for the easy difficulty is for those who wishes to play the game more like a visual novel, since the story and narrative is good this is a viable option. I found most of the puzzles to make sense and only the Fairy World may be considered a bit out of the ordinary in that department. The inclusion of a break/repair option was great since it creates more possibilities for item combinations without having to add more items to find in game.

On graphics one have to mention the backgrounds which look amazing and the character models are also great to look at when they are stationary. The animations are however not that good and both movement and facial expressions are jerky while the lip-sync in dialogues is even worse. Since one does get used to the faults and still get´s to enjoy the beautiful backgrounds the total impression on graphics is still very positive.

Music/Audio is for the most time quite nice even though I did find the protagonist Geron to be a bit whiny in the first chapters of the game. He does seem to mature or rather face up to the challenge as the game progresses which is a nice touch. The other characters, both minor and major ones, are well voice acted and adds to the overall positive experience when playing the game.

In short I will recommend this game for fans of the point-n-click game genre and I would also view it as a good game for those who does not have much experience with puzzle games but want to try one out. The full prize of 20 € does feel a bit steep since the game is not that long but at a sale it´s good time value.
