About This Game

Elemental Stones: stones imbued with the power of an Elemental Spirit, which grant the wielder of one the ability to control that element via 'magic'.

In the country of Scotsholm, three centuries have passed since they were first created. Elemental stones are now mass-produced and widely used, making magic a personal, commonplace part of people's lives.

In this country lives an energetic little girl named Arche. Arche, having moved with her family to a new home in the town of Tonkiness, has begun attending the only school in the area. That school is the Minasa-Ratis School of Magic. And it's here that Arche may discover something amazing about elemental stones... and herself.

Key Features:

  • A massive gameworld to explore - nearly a dozen dungeons to delve into, and easily 25+ hours of gameplay, with lots of extra content to explore!
  • Gorgeous, detailed 2D sprite backgrounds and animations - like the best 16-bit game you never got to play!
  • Classic platformer-RPG action in the vein of some of the true greats of yesteryear!
  • Conquer the challenges before you with intelligent AI companions - you can let them do as they want or customize their behavior to your heart's delight!

I love this game so it's high time I reviewed it.

tl;dr: awesome 2d action RPG with fantastic combat

I have trouble finding a specific genre for it, I still have to find something quite like this, but you could say it's a 2d sidescroller action RPG, and here's why:
  • RPG, because you have your equipment screen and can change it, and you have your 2 party members that you can control too if you want, otherwise they have their own AI;
  • 2d sidescroller because, well, it's a 2d sidescroller... and it has platforming sections and puzzles;
  • Action, because of the combat; you can think of it as a 2d Dark Souls with no stamina bar, you won't achieve anything by going full hack'n'slash on the enemies, you have to watch how the opponent moves and react accordingly, and of course they'll do the same thanks to a pretty impressive AI.

About the combat, this is where the game really shines. If you've played some fighting games you'll feel right at home here, because with only the 4 directional buttons plus jump and attack buttons, you can perform all kinds of moves: slash, upward slash, forward slash, quick poke/thrust, jumping attacks, aerial attacks, running charge, rolling attacks and of course block and dodge/roll.
The enemies also have various attacks, that combined with a very good AI makes for some really fun and memorable fights, even against basic slimes at the beginning.
Your 2 friends in your party are casters, and they can learn all kinds of spells to support you from the distance, or buff and heal.

The story is nothing incredibly serious or dramatic, since the main characters are little girls that go to school (by the way yes, you play as a little girl... that goes to school with a sword... how awesome is that?), but the dialogues are never boring and the characters are all likeable, and you're always wanting to know what happens next, and begin a new adventure... !!!...
Sadly, this is also one of the bad points of the game, because it ends giving a clear indication that the story will continue in the next game, only... there is no next game. The developer stopped making games and... this is the only one. And this saddens me to no end.
It's not a short game, since I think it took me more than 30 hours the first time through, without trying to find all secrets and rare items, but a lack of sequel is incredibly painful after that ending, and especially for a game as good as this one.

This game is pretty fun. Fair warning: There's a fair amount of forced backtracking, as well as a lack of direction, so i'm going to recommend a guide so that you can know where to go, because the game is EXTREMELY vague and will NOT tell you sometimes. Other than that, the game is pretty great. The combat feels good, the bosses are fun, and the difficulty is high, even on the lowest setting. If you like tough action games then this is for you. If you don't like a challenge then steer clear, this game is quite difficult.

This game is my favorite out of the nine games I bought of this genre. It has cute art, great controls, and very well done character animations and voices. You can change the difficulty between four settings, and there's an additional menu where you can modify the keyboard or controller controls. The gameplay is really smooth, and the only bug I've encountered is a small glitch where you can't draw your weapon after leaving the school--I fixed it by saving at the nurse and restarting my game, haven't encountered it since.

As for content, I can't say for sure quite yet since I'm barely past the prologue after 5 hours.

  • art
  • Lolis
  • Story, cutscenes, and dialogue
  • Unique, elaborate dungeons
  • Smart enemy AI (They dodge attacks and stuff)
  • Comfortable controls that are easy to learn
  • Multiple ways to play
  • Can run on low specs
  • Interactable environment

  • Not fullscreen. (pro?)
