About This Software

The Source Filmmaker (SFM) is the movie-making tool built and used by us here at Valve to make movies inside the Source game engine. Because the SFM uses the same assets as the game, anything that exists in the game can be used in the movie, and vice versa. By utilizing the hardware rendering power of a modern gaming PC, the SFM allows storytellers to work in a what-you-see-is-what-you-get environment so they can iterate in the context of what it will feel like for the final audience.

To get started, just click the button above to install. The SFM includes all the base game assets from Team Fortress 2 along with assets from some of the first “Meet the Team” short films.

Incredible software.

Easy controls, much customizability, easy to get into, very stable (only crashed on me like 10 times total in my current use time) and produces amazing results.

Sometimes you have to deal with some really annoying problems, like fixing broken materials or what not, but that's not too bad (and only is the case for TF2 stuff, really).

Only thing that'd maybe help newer people are some fixes to item painting so that you don't always have to 1. use a script and 2. not dig around the material files. Same can go for unusual effects and adding special variants of weapons (festive, botkillers, multi-model and multi-style items, ...). But that's all just focused on TF2 stuff.

If you are an eager movie maker or artist that wants to use assets from already existing games, this is the program for you. The community is also very helpful about any questions you have!

Arguably the best free Animation Software to date,
The SFM allows the community to make their own films and control everything that happens in it, I am going to admit, It will take ALOT of practice to learn SFM, But trust me, Once you've learned the tools and how to animate, You are going to have alot of fun creating with the SFM,

So overall, If you are interested in learning animation and are willing to give the time to learn it, this is the software for you, But make sure to have a 'Decent' Gaming PC or else you will experience quite a lot of lag.

Source Filmmaker, such an extraordinary animation program for all ages to use.
Easy and simple. You may need to fully understand animation and it's complications, but you will get there soon!
You must have at least 4GB if you wish to download and install. A amazing program, that most probally is the best, I highly recommend this to everyone.

Great and fairly easy to use. It's fun and addicting. There is a couple minor issues though. I have one big one. I can't find great tutorials but i'm sure Source Filmmaker youtube channel with have something. Like I said this is awesome. But it seems Valve isn't making updates. It cam out over a year ago and is still in Beta. I think Valve just needs to update it. Also the pose to pose animation thing is kinda confusing to me. But overall this is great. I rate 9.5/10

Anything is possible with a bit of practice and patience. Valve has made an incredibly powerful tool that anyone can pick up and start learning right away. Obviously it's still considered a "Beta", so there are some bugs to watch out for. I've only experienced crashes while doing things I probably shouldn't have been doing, but otherwise it is very stable.

Try finding an animation suite that has all of the features the SFM does for free. Yeah, SFM is that awesome. You can't beat free!

I may not be a very good animator, but this program is a very fun way to learn and create your own animations with TF2 and other valve creations.

Not too much to "Review" considering the fact that it's animation software and from my knowledge, these are not very commonly able to be used for free, and I can't rate it on a scale of how good of animation software it is considering the fact that I've never used any other Animation Software before, but from a personal standpoint, I love SFM so much because Valve has made so many amazing worlds that can be used for endless amounts of storytelling. The possibilities are endless and are limited to your imagination. From personal experience, first learning how to use SFM is probably one of the most complicated things I've ever tried to do, but with the help of my SFM friends, I got the hang of it, and look where I am now! =) 110% Reccomend if you are looking for a creative way to convey your ideas.

I would appreciate some Counter-Strike content. Maps, models and props. I'm tired of TF2 maps. And don't bother commenting here telling me I can Google it. Already done that. Either help or shut up.
