When I heard Ron Gilbert was gonna make an Action RPG I was thrilled and, as it turned out, rightly so. I suppose DeathSpank can be best described as the hilarious brother of Diablo. One example for the great humor: "I once slayed a dragon!" "Really? That's amazing!" "Well, I didn't really slay it and it wasn't technically a dragon. What I meant to say is: I once kicked a cat!" My favorite quote of the game!

Took me 16 hours to completely finish it (including all achievements) and I had tons of fun!

Not very funny, uninteresting gameplay, too simple. Felt short, but I was actually kind of relieved. Did not enjoy the second half, bc of repetition. I love levelling/loot and humour in games - but neither worked here.

Death Spank is a comedic action RPG similar in gameplay to titles like Diablo. While the game has the traditional tropes of equipment upgrades, character skills, loads of loot and lots of button mashing, the depth and complexity of the RPG elements are scaled back to focus more attention on the comedic narrative.

Whether or not this results in a positive experience really depends on your sense of humor. Personally I found the whole game extremely fun, never frustrating and quite consistently hilarious, however I can appreciate silly “potty humor” which this game is overflowing with. There is definitely no challenge in this game once you learn the controls, and while I’ve heard some complaints about this, I feel that it was intentional (and rightfully so) in order to make the game more accessible to people not that into typical aRPG ruthlessness and instead is targeting people looking for a title filled with some great writing and comedy.

I got this game a long time ago in a bundle and after playing it through to 100% I regretted not giving it a chance sooner.

Fun action rpg with a nice touch of comedy.
The voice of DeathSpank is also quite hilarious.
Simple but fun game.

The Deathspank series and 'On the Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness' 1 and 2 are all cartoon like games with, first and foremost, lots of fun dialogues. I got the first Precipice game in a bundle and just gave it a try, then after finishing bought the others.

These are all great games, I love the 2D artwork and the way the whole thing is put together. For instance, mall details like when you switch weapons you see Deathspank wielding it in the preview (I know this is common among the bigger game developers but for a relatively unknown game maker it is nice to see that they created a finished rather than a rushed product) .

Unfortunately the screenshots alone do not do these games justice since you are not aware of the funny dialogue (if the first game wouldn't have come with the bundle, I bought, I probably wouldn't have tried them at all).

Deathspank is secondly a hack and slash. Although you die rather frequently (ok, I die rather frequently :-) ), you will just respawn close by so it isn't such a big deal. Personally I have set it to the easy setting and then it should be playable by anyone, I think.

I really love all of these games and finished ORSPD 1 and 2 twice (note that I didn't play ORSPD 3 and 4 because these are different kind of games with retro graphics) and Deathspank 1 once.

I would recommend any of them if you enjoy a not so serious game with lots of fun dialogue.

Genre: Action Role Playing Game

Ron Gilbert is probably best know for being one of the creators (the others being Tim Shafer and Dave Grossman) of the successful Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island series that was wildly popular in the late eighties and early nineties when adventure gaming was king. Both titles combined humor to great effect with the Monkey Island characters being particularly self-aware that they were computer gaming characters.

In an attempt to re-create the success of Guybrush Threepwood (Monkey Islands main lovable but bumbling buffoon of a wanna-be-pirate hero) we now have Deathspank (another bumbling buffoon of an idiot wanna-be-hero). Swapping out Shafer, the Caribbean and adventure gaming in general, Deathspank introduces us to its titular character and fantasy setting with a combat heavy action role playing focus. But does Deathspank have what it takes to enjoy the same sort of longevity as Guybrush Threepwood?

Unfortunately not. Whilst the game may illicit the odd smile here and there, as a character he is missing the charm that accompanied Guybrush on all of his adventures. With a forced script, the gags don't really tend to flow very well most of the time and Deathspank eventually ends up being more of an irritation than anything else. WIth a stupid and idiotic quip for almost everything you do in game be prepared to have some bad comedy laid down thick and fast throughout your playthrough.

Deathspank is nothing more than a Diablo clone except this time it's dressed up as the court jester. As far as the game goes the gameplay is pretty solid and engaging if it were not for the idiot of a hero unable to shut his trap for a single second. The store page lists the epic humor of Ron Gilbert as one of its main key selling points but to be honest I was totally underwhelmed by this attempt at so called humor. I have gotten more laughs from just staring at a lemon going off in a fruit basket.

Graphically the game looks quite unique with the entire world made to look like card board cut outs and it lasts roughly 10-14hrs hours which is just about right when looking at the games asking price.

Whilst I am a huge fan of Guybrush Threepwood and the Monkey Island series, I definitely am not as ardent a Deathspank fan. Fun in short little bursts and thankfully over quickly I wouldn't recommend paying full price for the title but wait for a sale instead.

A really great and fun game. Not a very long game (~10 hours approx) but if you like Ron Gilbert's jokes, looting, and fighting against really crazy enemies, this is your game. If you miss laughing with a game, get this one because you will do that during the entire game.

Totally worth the price!

You play as Deathspank, a Dispenser of Justice, a Vanquisher of Evil, and a Hero to the Downtrodden, on your journey to get your hands on the "artifact"
Battle through demons, orcs, chickens, leprechauns and many more while completing your quests and filling your bag with awesome loot.

The gameplay mechanics are quite basic, but nevertheless fun.
The dialogues are really funny, i enjoyed the voices and had to laugh each time the main hero introduces himself by saying "My name is Deathspank!"

The game is about 7-10 hours long (took me 8h), which is not too bad for that price IMO.

Fun and lighthearted game with quirky graphics and an absurd but hilarious storyline. Easy to get the hang of and great for casual gaming. Short but sweet.

Deathspank is best played with a controller, in my opinion, without one the controls are a bit weird and sometimes you move in directions you didin't ask to. It took me about 7 hours to beat the game and I felt bored about 30 minutes during that time, because I had no idea where to go in a certain quest. It's a pretty casual game execpt for 1 or 2 monsters in particular which are quite unbalanced and can cause problems.

That game is very hard to review, because, while I had alot of fun and didin't see the time go by... The gameplay is very repetitive and there's not enough weapon variation and different ''skills'' in the game, in my opinion. Shoot until the monster gets to you, smash, smash, block, smash, block, smash, monster dead... That's what you do for about half of the time.

I do believe it's worth playing, because of the dumb humor that's just wrong and funny... Though if you're looking for challenging gameplay or have a bad sense of humor, this game is definately not for you!

This game is mechanically boring. It lives or dies based on whether or not you find its humor amusing. I mostly did not. If you find rainbow colored unicorn feces amusing, though, you might enjoy it more than I did.

Awesome game. One of my favorites. Love it
Graphics, animation, enviroment and music is well made.

Funny Heroe, Sarcastic dialoques, Epic Humor, Large world with lots of sidequests (some extremelly ridiculous) and enough of hours to play. Lots of loot: cash, food, weapons, items.
Enjoyable, addicted and quite hard

I have played all three of the series but this is my favorite
