About This Game

Tribes: Ascend is the world’s fastest shooter - a high-adrenaline, online multiplayer FPS with jetpacks, skiing, vehicles, and multiple classes. The classic shooter franchise Tribes has been played by well over 1 million people. With Tribes: Ascend, the franchise is reborn – fast-paced, vertical, acrobatic combat combined with class-based teamwork and stunning sci-fi visuals.

Key Features:

  • Skiing: A slow soldier is a dead soldier. By holding down space bar you remove friction and build momentum to traverse large maps, hunt down targets, and escape enemy territory at intense speeds.
  • Jetpacks: Total freedom of movement and aerial, dog-fight like combat.
  • Class-Based Combat: Unlock up to nine distinct classes, each with unique weapon loadouts and abilities.
  • Player Progression: As you play a class you gain experience which is used to unlock class-specific skills and perks. You can also share the xp gained while playing a favorite class to progress other classes.
  • Escalating Intensity: In each match you earn credits for shooting down enemies or supporting your team’s objectives. Use these match credits to upgrade base defenses, access vehicles, or call-in tactical strikes. The longer you play, the more chaotic the match becomes.
  • Vehicles: Pilot the powerful Beowulf tank, the speedy two-person Grav Cycle or the versatile flying Shrike.
  • Beautiful, Massive Battlefields: Wage war in a variety of open environments including frozen wastelands, sprawling cities, and jagged mountains.
  • Don’t Fight Alone: Friend-list allows you to link up with others and establish supremacy online
  • Free To Play... but not pay to win: All items affecting game play can be earned by playing the game itself. Players can purchase optional Tribes Gold to unlock classes more quickly and/or skills more quickly. Players will also be able to purchase cosmetic skins with Tribes Gold.
  • Spectator Mode: Highly-detailed spectator mode allows you to zoom in on your favorite players, view player data, and switch between action hot spots on the fly.

Great game now dead, no one plays it, I wish there was because this game was my life for a good while even though I lost 1 account I kept going because this game was that good and PVP soon much fun the game modes were awesome and capture the flag was the best thing I ever played in my life and the weapons were amazing each having a different function to learn i.e. slower velocity slow firing fast shooting oh and let's not forget the tanks and the interceptors..... Hi-Rez you fools left this game and it was going so well now it's dead and no one plays it anymore not even me this is one of those games I will always love just as the ones before it........ RIP

Good luck playing it, it requires a 2000 year old version of flash player which the launcher can't install itself. Might as well just get a virtual machine to run this.

Rest in peace, Tribes Ascend, you will be missed :(

This was a really good game, but the devs just didn't treat it the way it should have been. I cannot recommend the game at this point, as barely anyone plays it, and Hi Rez have confirmed that the game will be over, after one final update...

2012: the year many tribes fans were dissapointed by the thought that Hi Rez didn't have the money to support this game further, and more so by the thought that SMITE was the real money maker. some folks thought that they were abandoning the game to milk the MOBA genre for money...

in some ways, they were right. in others... well, that's the story of today.

yesterday, the game had the aptly named "Out of the blue" update, which was being made behind the scenes with help from the Tribes community being the testers for... and oh man is it a doozy. everything is fine tuned, or changed up, aside from the maps, which only have the addition of 3 more to the roster, but they're still the same aside from the tweaks that affect the game with the update.

the main thing you need to know is this: the old classes got kicked out. instead, it's simplified to 3 armor types that can pick and choose weapons and gear from thier weight class... if this sounds familiar, that's cause you're a Tribes vet. each of the 3 armor classes have thier upsides and downsides such as the tradeoffs of survivability vs speed, as well as what weapons and gear each class can use (heavies can't bring snipers, and lightweights can't bring heavy weapons or use spinfusor discs or discos/fractal nades). in addition, you can bring 3 weapons, but with another hitch: you are limited to bringing one of each weapon class. (heavies can bring 4 weapons total instead of 3, btw).

TL;DR, this is the best chance to possibly get back into tribes, and give it another go... and before you think of it being P2W... the weapon upgrades are gone. when you unlock a new thing, what you see is what you get.

PS: any exp and gold spent has been refunded, and if you have gold, you will have access to the entire armory.

A flame that burns twice as bright, burns half as long.

Tribes Ascend unofficially died within a year of its release, in large thanks to a very toxic community, but also thanks to a very dodgy developer. Some would say it was doomed from the start with the unrewarding unlock system, and its very liberal use of micro-transactions, but what really killed the game was the "we didn't break through to a big enough market in the first year, so let's make something else" attitude from the studio.

Tribes Ascend was pushed aside, all future support and updates were suspended, with only the barest of support of some multiplayer-servers remaining to squeeze out any additional funds; And instead Hi-Rez focused all of their resources on the continued development and support of Smite - a MOBA game.

Personally, Tribes Ascend was the best shooter experience I'd ever had; It was fun, it was exciting, and it was difficult - But pulling off a flag grab and then securing a capture was among the most rewarding things I'd ever done in a competitive video game. I played quite a few hours of Tribes Ascend, starting in late 2011 to somewhere in the middle of 2013 (though most of it done outside of Steam because of client issues), and I shelled out quite a few bucks too - not because I had to, but because I wanted the developers to know this was a game worth the money.

But that didn't matter, and in the end Tribes Ascend simply went too fast for the devs.

Update: Hi-Rez has revived Tribes Ascend, and are planning on making big, big changes to the game, most of them set to change the way the game is played. Whether this turns out to be a success, or another failed project on Hi-Rez part remains to be seen. But knowing that the community on r/tribes has been given a very large voice in all of this, I remain skeptical.

This game was great when I used to play it many years ago. The game itself provided such a unique experience. I am currently reinstalling it to see if the reviews are true that it no longer works. If it does not work, I'll have to change this to a thumbs down.

-Edit: So, I just tested it out and had a lot of issues with it. While trying to log in, it said that it didn't have connection to the server. After trying about 20 more time, I was allowed to log in. All of my unlocks were gone, but i had a ton of experience to use to unlock things. I decided to try to explore a map by myself to refamiliarize myself with the controls before trying to get into a real match. While trying to figure out how the loadout stuff works now, I "lost connection" with the sever. Again. The odd thing was that after it kicked me back to the log in screen, it advertised that I could buy some sort of pack that would give me double experience. Wow. I have a feeling that this was not simply "losing conneciton". After trying to log in 30 or 40 more times I gave up. Every time that I did iit said that it did not have connection with the server.

Sadly this game will probably never recover from this... Anyway, Because of my recent experience I have to downvote it.

I could tell you that this is a fun game. I could tell you that the velocity system and aiming are great. I could tell you to download and play it now.

But it wouldn't matter because the game is dead.

Great, fast-paced game. I've never seen a game like this before. One of my all time favorite fps game unitll it went dead. Hi-Rez moved to another game and this game was never the same again.

A completely awesome shooter. I've played hundreds of FPS shooters and this is one of the most fun. Do not be fooled by the large number of people badmouthing the game because they're angry at Hi-Rez (the developer). The game is super fantastic fun and has recently begun being supported by Hi-Rez again, as well.

Ultra fast paced, frenetic combat on visually stunning maps. Do not miss out. When it's even free, this is some you HAVE TO play. Welcome to the fun. :)
