Civilization V DLC - Babylonian Civilization

This is the highly powerful science turtle civ, apart from that other one.

Babylon focuses on science generation, as evidenced by its unique abilities:

* Receive free Great Scientist when you discover Writing
* Earn Great Scientists 50% faster

Babylon's science focus is geared towards having an early science advantage, which players must leverage going into the late game. These bonuses are more technical than Korea's (Korea being that other science civ) since you must earn and manage their Great Scientists efficiently - but that earlier science advantage can help you out, because science counts for a lot in Civilization. Just make sure you use your first free Great Scientist to build an Academy and you're off to a good start.

Their unique unit and unique building are both available in the Ancient era, and both help defend fabled Babylon from aggressors. The Bowmen can be used to go on the offensive if you really need to - with less units than if you relied on Warriors/Archers - and the Walls of Babylon have utility throughout the entire game.

Babylon's aesthetic is pretty great, and for me it's a close (very close) winner over Korea's. Their AI behavior, or I should say Nebuchadnezzar II's, is usually kind of crazy. He's ornery and will likely build tall, although in my experience he can do this with a lot of cities in a small space as opposed to picking the Tradition policies and building a handful. Attacking him can prove a headache with his uniques and his tech advantage. Nebuchadnezzar II was historically mentally ill for a duration of his reign, which goes a way towards explaining the leader scenes.

I'd recommend this for players who want to, in the words of one r/civ user, 's**t science and S**T Great Scientists'. You only get Babylon with this purchase, though - wait for a sale to get better value.

Just don't spawn next to Assyria. That can be painful.

Bought this as my first piece of civ5 dlc. Totally worth £3 and 10 lost hours of my life. Good for early game dashes, science victories, agrro, passive, city state, cultural victories, nuking, fanboyism, religion and ten out of ten-ing.

10/10 would screw up the early game again.

If you're the type to carve away one isolationist city as you put all your effort into a scientific win, Bablyon was custom made for you. Not only does Nebuchadnezzar have an impressive science bonus, but his country has the "Walls of Babylon" to shoot any neighbors that stray onto your lawn. Combine this with the Great Wall of China and a few other military defenses, and you'll have a shining city on the hill. Even if they do come knocking, your weaponry should be far more advanced. Then watch them offer peace with a smile, never stopping work on that rocket engine in the basement.
