What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access provides a way for our small team at Dissident to not only release sections of MEMORIES and gauge interest as it develops but to improve upon the gameplay mechanics as we continue onward with the journey!

We place player experience at a high value and look forward to seeing how they'll help us grow MEMORIES into the best game it can be!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are estimating that the game will be in early access for approximately 6 months! Our goal is to ship the full, polished game by December though the exact date is TBA.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“While our current build only includes the first level of the game, we are working hard to complete the environment art, fine-tuning the character animations and optimizing the level design. The final game will include 8 levels, adding a total of 8 hours of gameplay and polished cinematics to help tell the story.

Though we're a small indie studio and our progress may be slow and steady, we're passionate about sharing Ess' journey and delivering a fun and unique adventure platformer.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Memories is laid out from start to finish but major objectives, animations, and gameplay functions are still under development. Some sections, like our introduction or ending areas will be gated off until release but the rest of the levels are pen to exploration despite being incomplete.

Our early access road mantra is to always have a “playable” game, but it will not include many of the systems needed to finish the game. For example, the save state is incomplete, movement physics will continue to be improved and iterated on, and levels will shift and change as we move forward. Everything is subject to change, which can be exciting for people who want a peak behind the curtain of development!

Come play Memories if you are up for checking out development behind the scenes and want to help us give feedback and allow us time to build a great adventure / platforming experience!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“For now, the game is set at a reduced rate, as some sections of the game are still in development. However, the price will slowly see an increase as the game draws closer to finishing!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We've seen time and time again the benefits of studios involving the community in their development process. We too hope to grow a community that is as excited and passionate about the story of MEMORIES as we are. That's why we'll be working hard to reply to all comments, questions and concerns players may have - we're also launching a public trello board and regularly post dev diaries to our blog so that they can really see how the development process is going!”

About This Game

In 1982, thousands of innocents died to gunfire and bombings in Beirut, Lebanon as warring factions fought each other for political control of the country. Memories explores the repercussions of one bombing as it turns the lives of a mother and daughter upside down. When their apartment is destroyed in the fallout of a bombing and her daughter becomes fatally injured, Ess struggles with dwindling options as her daughter draws closer to death.

After discovering a strange, underground world beneath the city of Beirut, help Ess explore it's secrets as she tries to find a way to save her daughter amidst the growing chaos. As the world around them changes, Ess transforms into something beyond human, becoming who she needs to be in order to overcome what has to be done.

A Fractured World: When the unthinkable happens, your mind grapples for escape and sometimes, it fractures. Memories explores the lengths a parent will go to - mentally and physically - to protect their child. Help Ess navigate the Underworld beneath Beirut and make sense of the broken world she’s faced with.

Explore the Underworld: Upgrade Ess’ growing supernatural abilities and use them to leave no path unexplored. Follow your instinct through or make your own path by clearing away debris, bypassing unstable ground and avoiding creatures from Hell. Solve puzzles to dive deeper into the underground depths as you search for the key to keeping your daughter alive.

Untold Stories: Extract the untold stories hiding inside the strangers you cross paths with. Listen to their tales and travesties as Ess’ own struggles with denial, regret and grief begin to unravel.
