Another day, another sign of more bits and pieces on the way to Assassin's Creed Valhalla. This time, its a fresh pair of PlayStation trophies which point to new in-game tombs to explore.

Specifically, the two trophies will be awarded to players for completing either one or three Tombs of the Fallen, an activity which does not exist in Valhalla at present (thanks, AccesstheAnimus).

Fans are already coming up with their own ideas for what these may be, such as a return to the series' underground platforming locations from the Ezio era, or perhaps - finally - an answer to what those "Odin runes" are all about.

Assassin's Creed Infinity, the mysterious next entry in Ubisoft's historical stabathon series, will not be a free-to-play game.

Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot confirmed this point last night during the company's latest investor earning call (thanks, Gamespot), when asked for more information on the project.

It's an important point to note for two reasons - one, because Infinity will be a different kind of project that shakes up the franchise's formula after a trilogy of enormous-sized releases, and two, because of Ubisoft's recently-stated push for its AAA franchises to enter the free-to-play space.

Ubisoft has released its Q2 earnings report which, as well as confirming its 2022-23 release slate and a delay for The Division: Heartland, has revealed Assassin's Creed: Valhalla to be its "second largest profit generating game".

Valhalla, which was previously described as having the "biggest launch for any Assassin's Creed game to date", has reached that milestone in under 12 months (its one year anniversary arrives on 10th November), with Ubisoft saying the title has been "outperforming Assassin's Creed Odyssey across the board since its release. In particular, it highlights "higher" daily average revenue per user and "record engagement" for its Siege of Paris expansion.

The publisher also touches on Assassin's Creed: Valhalla's recently announced second year of content in its earnings report, saying it plans to "deliver great new content... notably in the second half of the current fiscal year."

The third big addition to Assassin's Creed Valhalla has been spied again via a datamine of the game's latest patch.

Ubisoft is yet to detail the expansion, but it has teased a second year of post-launch content and shown an image of the fiery door to Muspelheim to illustrate what is coming.

Today, serial Assassin's Creed leaker j0nathan shared a new video breaking down his latest findings - including new concept art and information taken from the game's latest patch, which appears to show the expansion's name and achievements/trophy list.

A new development roadmap for Assassin's Creed Valhalla has highlighted four content drops coming this autumn.

Several things stand out. First, the upcoming Oskoreia Festival due sometime later this season. Interestingly, this is not the Halloween Samhain festival fans were expecting - an event which also forms part of Valhalla's main campaign.

Instead the Oskoreia Festival seems based on the folk myth of a monstrous Viking Wild Hunt led by Asgardian raiders, and sometimes Odin himself. An image for the event looks appropriately spooky.

Discovery Tour: Viking Age, the upcoming educational mode for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, will arrive as a free expansion on 19th October.

A standalone version will launch for £16.99 on PC on the same date, and then on PlayStation and Xbox in early 2022. Previous versions launched as part of the Ancient Egypt-set Origins and the Ancient Greece-set Odyssey.

In the past (pun intended), Discovery Tour let you wander the game's world and take part in interactive tours, or examine historical objects and locations to learn about their real-world origins. In contrast, Viking Age will be more narrative-led, and let you "step into the shoes of Viking and Anglo-Saxon characters from the time while living out their stories and adventures".
