Valheim - IronMontilyet
Greetings vikings!

Since our last check-in we have moved the Call to Arms update from the Public Test Branch and into the Live version of the game! We want to thank everyone who tested the game during the PTB, as well as everyone who has played it since the official release. We hope you’re not too bruised from your battles!

There are possibly some more tweaks coming to that update in the coming weeks and months, as we want to see how everyone experiences the new changes, beyond those who tested in the PTB. But besides that we’re now focusing the team solely on content for the Deep North and 1.0. Armour sets are being designed, dungeons are getting fleshed out, and enemies are being animated. We’re itching for you to see it all, but we also want to make sure that there’s plenty of things left for you to discover on your own!

We’re holding off a bit longer still to see what became of Hervor Bloodtooth but, just like last month, we want to show you something from the Deep North regardless. This time we’re taking a peek at some new furniture pieces, made from a new type of wood found in the biome. They’re a bit chunkier than what we’ve had so far, and both the chair and the table have some decorative designs carved into them. We look forward to seeing how the talented builders out there will use them in the future!

Just a few days ago we also finally made the announcement that Valheim is coming to PlayStation! It’s something that we’ve been getting many requests for over the course of Valheim’s development, and we’re really excited that it’s soon to come true. You can read more about the PlayStation release, as well as watch the new trailers (yes, multiple!), in the announcement post.

As you may have guessed, the upcoming PlayStation release is the reason that we’re going to Tokyo Game Show next week, and those passing by our booth will have the opportunity to be among the first to play the game on a PlayStation console. We hope to see some fans there!

You will also find Valheim at the boardgame fair SPIEL ESSEN in Germany in October! Our friends at MOOD will be there to showcase the Valheim boardgame which is now manufactured and ready to ship out to everyone who backed the Gamefound campaign. The booth at SPIEL will also be the first ever place where you can purchase the game in person!

Build of the Month

This month we’re taking a closer look at this castle by ViRedy. Looks like someone is looking forward to a bit of wintery exploration, well done!

It's time to bring Call to Arms from the PTB and into Valheim proper! As always, a huge thank you to everyone who has tested it already, and a grand welcome to all new players!

You can also find a brand new type of item in the form of trinkets, which will help you in the heat of battle. And as there are some new dangerous foes around, you might find that you very much need them…

* Fixed a bug where typing R in the “filter” box refreshed the server list.

Xbox Only:
* If the user has left a server as a result of entering suspend mode, show a notification when resuming from suspend mode.
* The developer console is now disabled by default, and can instead be enabled via the new gameplay setting.
* Massively improved retrieval speed of the friends server list.

Valheim - IronMontilyet

Greetings vikings!

We’re back after a bit of a summer break, and we’ve got lots of things going on!

To start with, as you may have already noticed, we’re at Gamescom to present the latest update, Call to Arms. It’s available on the Public Test Branch right now for everyone who wishes to try it out! You can read the patch notes here, and we’ll of course share the trailer again, because we think it turned out pretty cool:

On site in Cologne we have our Iron Gate team members Robin, Andreas and Emilia, and while they might be a bit busy doing some interviews, they’re happy to stop and chat if you want to say hi to them.

But Gamescom isn’t the only event we’ll be attending; in a month we will also have a booth at Tokyo Game Show! If you’ll be attending, please come say hi! And even if you won’t be in Tokyo – keep an eye out, because we’ll be having an exciting announcement to make for that event as well.

Since there’s plenty of other things to focus on right now, we’ll be having a bit of a break from the Hervor episodes. We can promise that her voyage will continue, but first you will have to wonder about her fate a little longer.

With that said though, we don’t want to leave you entirely without a Deep North teaser for this month. Since we’re already fully focused on combat this month, let’s take a peek at one of the weapons you’ll be able to craft in the biome:

Build of the Month

And last but not least, it’s time to highlight some builds! Since we had a month without sharing any builds, we’ll of course share double now. First out is LootPursuer with this mystical build. Well done!

And we would also like to highlight this epic bridge by charass. Impressive!

If you want your creation to be featured in this section, use the hashtag #ValheimBotM on social media. Please also send us a DM or email with a link to your post, to make sure that we see it. Now you can also submit builds on Discord, by posting in the build-of-the-month forum channel! No DM is necessary if you post there, as that’s our own forum.

Valheim - IronMontilyet

Hello vikings!

Summer is here already! In case you’ve missed it, that also means that you’re able to build the Maypole and craft the Midsummer Crown in Valheim – you’ll be able to do so for the rest of June and through the first week of July, so there’s plenty of time still to enjoy the time of the summer solstice.

There’ll be no warm summer weather in the Deep North though! Last time we saw Hervor Bloodtooth, she got attacked by an Elaking as she was exploring a large hall. And it appears she has been taken deep below ground…

You may have guessed it already, but that’s your first sneak peek of a Deep North dungeon! We call them Winding Tunnels, and they’re one of many things that we have been working on behind the scenes which we hope you’re excited to explore in the future. We will, as usual, give you a still image as well, but after that we’ll be leaving Hervor to her fate for a while. How do you think she will fare?

Last month we mentioned that we’re also working on an update which focuses on improving the combat mechanics. We want to share another teaser for that update, in the form of an archery target – because even with improved mechanics you might still want an easy way to practice your own skills! The target will also let you know how close to the center you managed to shoot, and you will be able to retrieve your arrows or bolts once you’re done practicing.

Build of the Month

This month we want to highlight this Black Forest longhouse, built by Kalltorak. Nicely done!

Hello vikings!

We want to begin with mentioning that we’ll be renaming these monthly blog posts to “Word From the Devs”, since many of you have felt that the name “Development Blog” isn’t as fitting anymore. We hope that the new naming will be more suitable, and that it will cover everything these posts are about!

We also want to reassure you all that we are very much still working on the game, and that there are a lot of things behind the scenes that we aren’t showing you just yet! The Deep North development is in progress, but we want to leave a lot of it for you to discover yourselves. With that said though, we believe that this month’s Hervor video shows you something you’ve been curious about:

That creature at the end there wasn’t just part of the wildlife, but rather one of the enemies you will face in the Deep North. It’s called an Elaking, and we have a picture of it for you as well:

Besides the Deep North, we have a reveal for you as well! We’re also working on a smaller update, which will be released before the Deep North, that focuses on improving Valheim’s combat mechanics. And yes, that includes at last fixing slope fighting!

But what would a combat update be without some new armour? Some of you may already have glimpsed it on our Instagram stories last week, but here’s a better look! What kind of creature is it made from, do you think?

Before we sign off, we also want to thank everyone who backed the Makeship campaign for the Rocky plushie! Makeship aims to ship the plushies in August this year, so stay tuned for that!

This month we want to direct our gaze towards Fort Elvetham, built by kpthe13th and his daughters. What a lovely place!

Hello vikings and Rocky-fans!

It’s April, and you might have noticed that we were a bit mischievous earlier this month… For clarity, we did a repost of our old April Fools jokes, and as funny as these videos may be they will remain only jokes. But the video that was brand new – the trailer for Rocky the Pet Rock – was no joke at all! Rocky is very much a real thing in the game, though we won’t go into detail about how to make your Rocky happy…

If you love Rocky, you will probably also love the Rocky plushie! The Makeship campaign to get your very own Rocky is live right now, and this will be your only chance to get one, so don’t miss it!

Speaking of plushies, it’s time to announce the winners of our Favour of Freya screenshot competition! The winners will each get a jumbo neck plushie, to give them emotional support in their continued virtual photography. The Scenic category we would like to award to BarefootCookie for this shot of a Charred warrior gazing out over the Ashlands. Wow!

And the Action category we would like to award to Thaddeus for capturing this moment during a battle with Lord Reto. Incredible! Thank you everyone who submitted a screenshot for the competition, it’s been so much fun to get a glimpse into your very own Valheim adventures!

Before we wrap up we have another part of the Voyage of Hervor Bloodtooth for you! As she continues to walk deeper into the snowy woods, it appears she’s not quite as alone as she first thought…

Of course we will also give you a screenshot of that mysterious building she encountered there at the end. What do you think it is, and who do you think built it?

Build of the Month

And finally, time to highlight a building from the community! This month it was Stefonishin who caught our attention with this waterfront house. Well done!

We've gone digging deep into our archives today, vikings! We found some old stuff that you will recognize already (but we're putting it all here anyway so no one misses it), but we also found something that's been gathering dust for ages, perhaps even since the 90s! We made sure to digitize the old cassette for you, for your convenience.

Patch Notes:

* New build piece: Rock (it’s a friend!)
* New game mode: Haldor (become the best merchant ever)
* New weapon: Shotgun (extra damage against deer)
* New weapon: Deer Raiser (raise mighty deer to fight for you)
* New body type: Deer (when playing as a deer, other deer will not become frightened of you)

Greetings vikings!

We’d like to start off this post by saying thank you to everyone we met at GDC this year! It’s always a pleasure to get to meet people who have played our game, and this time around was no exception. It was great to meet you!

But a new blog post also means by now that it’s time for a new episode of the Voyage of Hervor Bloodtooth. As she is making her way further inland, what will she discover?

It may look like a peaceful place, but the Deep North can be more hostile than it first appears to be... That poor greydwarf!

Last time we opened up submissions for our screenshot competition, the Favour of Freya. We wanted to just take a moment to thank everyone who has submitted a picture so far, it’s a delight to go through them all! If you want to compete, you still have a couple of days left to submit your entry, as the competition closes on March 31st. Good luck!

Build of the Month

This month we turn our gaze to “The Dragonhearth” by MythicBuilds. Impressive indeed!
