A point is all you can score.

This is a slightly odd thing. Two Tribes, creators of Toki Tori and publisher/port creator for puzzle game EDGE, are “rebooting”. In this case, “rebooting” means that all the old staff were let go last year and the development company has been closed down. In its place, a new company has been started, which will operate under the same publisher owned by the same people. (more…)

Portal 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (John Walker)

Portal 2, which appears next Tuesday (how did that sneak up on us so fast?!), continues sneaking its way into other games. I imagine using portals. There must have been a more imaginative way of my phrasing that. Almost every member of the Potato Sack has gained content relating to the cryptic influence of GlaDOS, including Killing Floor, The Ball, RUSH, Super Meat Boy, Toki Tori and even Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which has got some new, free and somewhat cryptic DLC.

AaAaAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Quintin Smith)

What are you doing right now? Working? Smiling? Breathing? Well, stop with that nonsense and go straight over to the Steam page for The Potato Sack, a new bundle of indie games offering £108′s worth of great indie games, including Amnesia, Super Meat Boy, Toki Tori (which you can read Kieron shouting about here), The Ball (which Jim and John talk about here) and Defense Grid: The Awakening, for a paltry £27. I’d eagerly pay £30 for those five games alone, and there are another eight in the pack.

While if you already own two or three of these games you might have a tricky decision ahead of you, if you don’t own a single one of them then this is an absolute no-brainer. Buy! Buy it now! There’s even a Team Fortress 2 hat in it for you. And just in case only one or two of the participating games catch your eye, each of them is currently enjoying a 50% off sale. Amazing.

More bright, cheery games, please.

Kieron had big love for this year’s Toki Tori, a fiendish puzzle game by indie developers Two Tribes. They’ve got a new game that’s due out in two days, and just received a debut trailer: RUSH. It’s a puzzle game, but completely different from their previous game. This time it’s a 3D cube-rolling affair, which at first glance made me think of the iOS game Edge (the one that suffered from Tim Langdell’s impotent attacks.) But it quickly becomes apparent that it’s not the same at all. It’s about guiding multiple blocks to their targets, creating paths for the perpetually moving cubes. And from the trailer below, it looks pretty lovely.

When the lovely puzzle game Toki-Tori’s demo was released, I decided to drop a line to Two Tribes to have a little exchange about their debut on the PC after years working primarily on the hand-held. Co-founder and creative director Collin Van Ginkel took a little time to share some thoughts… (more…)

Oddly, Toki Tori reminds me of Walker. I mean that affectionately. No, really.

First thing: keep reading. Second thing: We’ve written about Toki Tori before, in passing, but with a demo released, it’s now time for you to pay proper attention. Third thing: keep reading. Fourth Thing: despite its hyper-cute styling, this is a devilishly smart little puzzle game which recalls me of the intricate post-Lemmings stuff which appeared on the Amiga. You simply have a limited number of tools and have to collect all the eggs on the level. The level doesn’t want you to. Who will win? It’s just lovely pure game design. Fifth thing: It’s also dirt cheap. The game’s five dollars (aka Three-quid-fifty) from all your favourite digital download places (Steam! Impulse! Gamers Gate! And – er – Mac Game Store!). Sixth Thing: Demo’s on the steam page (or the Mac Game Store page) and you can watch some actual little footage below. (more…)
