We’ve just dropped the 0.1.4-Demo Version update to address some of the things you've pointed out. Here’s what’s new:

  • Skill and Passive cards are now back to have 7 levels instead of 10!

    • Mutations appear at level 4 and 7. This means faster pacing, more meaningful upgrades, and more importantly, you get to pick more Mutations per run!

  • (NEW) Rerolls! By popular demand, you can now unlock Reroll Tokens from Starpath that will give you 3 Reroll Tokens every time you go to the Carrot Farm. More Reroll Tokens and variations will be available in Early Access!

  • The Skills Info panel can now be closed by pressing again TAB on the keyboard or Select button on the controller.


Balancing

General:

  • Reduced Dash Cooldown from 7.5s to 6s.

  • Slightly increase the chance of health drops to spawn.

Skills:

Manafall

  • Fixed Manafall sometimes does not target the right enemies.

  • Fixed Manafall Crystals now get destroyed by enemies' attacks (such as projectiles and explosives).

Repulsive Shock

  • Changed Unstable Garlic mutation now does not also reduce the radius, instead it now always temporarily increases the radius while radiating before returning to the original radius.

Thunder Spear

  • Fixed Thunder Spear sometimes spawns attached to the player even when there are no mutations taken.

Enemies

  • Reduced Carrot Farm 3rd elite HP from 16K to 14K.

  • Reduced Appletini HP from 46K to 42K.

We fixed some problems and are also working diligently on our first major patch, but before that, here is just a minor patch.
What's New?
  • - Voice lines have been added to the game.

  • Music has been added to the game (no more awkward silence).

  • The save system has now been implemented (we are aware of some bugs with it, and they will be fixed in the upcoming major patch).

What's Changed?
  • System Performance has been improved, and we are continuing to find optimizations.

  • Fixed certain tutorial sections that didn't appear to the player.

  • Removed unnecessary inputs from the input list in the settings.

  • Changed the intro cinematic slightly at the beginning.

Thank you very much to everyone who wishlisted and purchased Don't Turn Back. We didn't expect a ton of people to put a lot of faith in our little game, but we are glad you did. We are working hard to give you the vision of Don't Turn Back that we see, and we won't stop till that happens.

You might have seen a new addition to the Steam page... in next month's version 0.3, we're introducing the game's first DLC pack, Galactic Expedition!

A special new mode will also be available in DLC pack folders, introducing a bit of a twist to the established gameplay. It's a fun new way to experience these songs... or a horrific and sweaty challenge? It's up to you!! Find out more soon...

Avid rhythm gamers will probably note from the artist list that we're committed to making the DLC for this game top shelf stuff--we want everyone to feel that both the base game and additional packs are easily worth their price tags! And on that note, we're continuing to reinforce the value of the base game by adding two more Core Append songs in this update, including our first collaboration with another rhythm game. What could it be...?

0.3 will also expand the rating system somewhat--you've probably seen some charts pushing the edges of their difficulty block, but there are several cases where they'd be at the other edge of the next difficulty block if they were moved! In order to accomodate these, we're splitting the 8000s and 9000s blocks into three blocks (8000s-10000s), with the higher blocks largely being pushed up by 1000. With our system, it's actually possible to make this change without even pushing an update, but the new content release is a good time to try it out. We'll continue to monitor the game's rating scale in pursuit of the most scientific ratings in any rhythm game!

Following 0.3, we'll be focusing on readying the game's Japanese language option ahead of Tokyo Game Show, as well as some additional content we'll unveil at the event, so the next major update is expected to launch in late September!
