It’s just 180 days until Jack Boyd’s retirement in This is the Police. He’s the chief of police who has to juggle many balls and not drop one, otherwise everything goes horribly wrong. The mayor is breathing down his neck constantly, while his staff plead for time off to volunteer at the animal sanctuary, all the while the crooks are plaguing the city.

In This Is The Police, corruption was easy. Sitting pretty at the top, skewing your officer’s patrols to help funnel the right folk into the right jails and the proceeds into your pocket? That’s all in a day’s work, really. Someone like that needs taking down a peg.

Enter, Rebel Cops. With nasties in the town hall and your squad waging a guerrilla war, it might sound like the sorta thing you’d scroll past on Netflix. But behind all that, Weappy’s newly-announced spin-off looks like it could bring an interesting twist to the tactics scene.

Sooner than expected (better than delayed because they forgot to press the button, I guess), This Is The Police 2 – sequel to morally messy police management RPG This Is The Police – is out now. Below, the rather intense launch trailer, suggesting that things might be a little more Fargo than Northern Exposure up in these colder climes. Just because you’re out of the big city doesn’t mean things are any simpler.

Videogames provide us with a great many escapist fantasies, like home ownership, and the opportunity to travel. Another dream that seems to exist only in the realm of games is a police force sans corruption, or at least the opportunity to run one without embezzling too> much cash or threatening to remove anyone’s kneecaps. We’ve long heard sirens on the horizon from tactical police management sequel This Is the Police 2, but now we’ve got the big-wigs to sign off on the papers, confirming that it’s due out on August 2nd – just one month from now.

During today’s E3 event, Electronic Arts revealed their new premium subscription tier for Origin Access, called Origin Access Premier. It’ll let members play EA’s new games as much as they please, including Madden NFL 19, Fifa 19, Battlefield V and, of course, Anthem. A pass to play every big new EA game without buying ’em.

I was waging war against the mafia and they did not know it. The idiots kept telling me any time they had a ‘big job’ planned. They would then offer me big money in a brown envelope to ignore it. But as the chief of police, I could not be bought. I would use their little pre-warning to make sure I had enough officers in the station. And when the crime went down a casino robbery, an assault, whatever – I would storm in, yelling the game’s title, This Is The Police!

Cop management sim This Is the Police [official site] was supposed to be released today but has been pushed back because the publisher forgot to press a button on Steamworks – the publishing side of Valve’s digital store. The game will now be released next week, the developers have said. And the folks responsible seem very, very embarrassed.
