The Last Look - ChaosCore Studio
We've been busy with the game and have been asked to show some content. So we've choosen some screenshots from the third chapter (which isn't released yet).

Since we don't want to be marked as "false advertising", we will post them in this announcement instead of the official screenshot section.

All screenshots are taken in the engine and have not been modified afterwards.

We hope that you like what you see. Please also note, that the chapter is still in development, so the content shown here might change.

It has been one of these lovely 24h days, but we finally made it: Patch 0.4.0 is now available and as promised, the second chapter is now playable.

Unfortunately, some animations and cutscenes are still not added, and will be added within the next week in a minor content patch. Also, we will keep an eye on any bugs that might have slipped through our testing (we tested a lot!).

So, here are the patch notes:

  • The second chapter is now available! Find Mary in the brand new area: WesCraven Hills! But be careful... there are more things to kill you, not just the enemy you already met. Please note, that once you enter WesCraven Hills, you won't be able to go back in your current save game.
  • Save game changes: When you choose to go back to the title screen by choosing the "Save Game And Exit" option in the escape menu, you are allowed to continue just where you stopped playing. This means, that in this particular case, you will keep all your items, your location is still the same, and everything remains as it was. Please note that you still wake up in the bathroom if you die, and that this is still intended behaviour - not a bug!
  • 32 bit performance issue on Windows fixed
  • Loud sounds that play when starting the game or navigating back from the options menu are no longer there
  • Button overlaps in the options widget should no longer happen in low resolutions, especially when using Russian language
  • Playstation button graphics improved to look less pixeled and more like the Xbox One graphics.

Hello everyone and a happy new year!

We hope you are well. It's been quiet here lately, because we have been hard at work on the next patch which will be available really soon.

This new patch (we named it 0.4.0) will finally contain the second chapter: A whole new level including outdoor areas! So yes, you will be able to leave that old hallway behind.

There will be other improvements as well, such as more performance optimizations and bug fixes, and a new feature, that allows you to exit the game anywhere you want, and continue just where you left it (you will then no longer wake up in the bathroom, and you keep everything you have)!

But please note that this feature only works when you end the game manually. If you die, everything is as it is right now.

Have a nice day and greetings from the whole team here at ChaosCore!

We made it! Patch 0.3.0 is here.

It was a lot of work for us, even though it might not look like that for you, especially if you don't know what you should look for.

So here are the patch notes:

  • Gamepad overlays are available ingame. These overlays appear as soon as you use one of our supported gamepads in the game (press a button or move a stick). Once you use the keyboard or the mouse, it automatically displays the PC overlays as usual.
  • The DUALSHOCK 4 light bar is now supported on the PC and displays Alice duration as a color: green = healthy, red = exhausted.
  • We added new sounds for the monster
  • We tried to limit the area where you here the "danger" sound so that you don't hear it when there is really nothing to be afraid of.
  • Fixed a glitch that made the character walk up in the air when the player was jumping just before entering a locker.
  • Fixed a glitch where the player could climb on some objects when the crouch button was pressed while jumping.
  • Fixed a glitch where the player would see Alice' teeth after double-clicking some interactable objects.
  • Fixed a glitch where the monster would start to crouch when chasing the player near the air vent when it shouldn't.
  • Fixed a bug where the monster would immediatly loose track of the player when a door was smashed into it's face while chasing the player.
  • The monster now reacts to sounds from opening doors if it is still nearby (so: if it hears you opening a door nearby, it will investigate this).

IMPORTANT: Due to a bug in the Engine, the 32 bit version of The Last Look seems to have severe performance issues. It should not affect the 64 Bit Version of the game. We are in contact with Epic Games to solve this issue as quickly as possible.

Some more details: The DUALSHOCK 4 controller is natively supported, so you don't need extra software / tools to emulate an xbox controller. However, we only support this controller in the 64 Bit version of The Last Look, which automatically installs if you run a 64 Bit version of windows.

The default gamepad schema ingame is set to XBoxOne. You can change it in the options menu to PlayStation 4 if you want to see the DUALSHOCK 4 mapping instead.

Keep in mind that we currently don't support gamepad customization - we will add some options for that later (so currently, you can only customize your mouse and keyboard mapping).

We are aware that there are still some minor issues with the gamepad in the inventory, and we will address these really soon in a hotfix to not delay this patch any further. But you should be able to complete the game by only using a gamepad.

We also know that the options menu itself is not yet usable with a gamepad. Again... hotfix.

If there are any other bugs, glitches, feedback or other issues, please feel free to report them to us. Of course: If you have any wishes, please let us know as well.

Greetings!

Some time has passed since we posted an announcement now. There is a bigger patch in the make (namely, 0.3.0), which will be released really soon (approx. early next week).

So we wanted to tell you a bit more about this upcoming patch.

First, we found and fixed a lot of new glitches. For example, you could crouch while jumping, which could help you to jump on certain objects and areas where you weren't supposed to get to. There were even more glitches related to jumping, which were fixed.

There were also interaction-related glitches, where you could see Alice' jaw and teeth, which has been fixed now.

We improved the ingame prompts and overlays a lot. For example, prompts like "Press (LEFT MOUSE BUTTON) to open the door" were always displayed like this, even if you changed your keybindings for interaction. We also support controller overlays now (Press to open the door).

By the way: We fully support the DUALSHOCK 4 controller natively: You don't need additional software which emulates an xbox controller - just plug it in on your computer, and you are able to use its features like the light bar (which displays Alice' health state as color), force feedback and the touchpad. We also support the XBox controller as well. You can choose a button mapping in the options screen.

We also improved our AI. It reacts to sounds like opening doors and lockers while the enemy is nearby. It has advanced sounds for when you are in danger (not so loud and annoying, but more creepy to better fit in the overall atmosphere). It is also a lot quicker now, especially when opening doors, and you are no longer able to, for example, close doors it opens in front of it to get it stuck there: It will catch you! ;)

We hope that you will like it!
