The Story

Blue of Eternal Nights

Dark as the ancient watery abyss, the cavern stood where time had frozen.

Her scales had long since become one with the green moss climbing onto the shore and the Blue Tears' ebb and flow. When pain pierced her, she lifted her gaze to the splendid gown exiled to its high perch. The gem formed from the very first Blue Tear swayed gently, singing the sobs of the past.

Then her massive skeleton curled tight—a cage within a cage—firmly trapping the soul clinging to its guilt.

Round and round the gem revolved. Her serpent tail began to scrape involuntarily against the etchings on the stone wall—those crude lines carved long ago with her dearest friend, crooked as the routes the friend once traced on the grass when they first met.

Back then, she silently embroidered every twist and turn of their journey onto her garment, so she would never forget the joy.

"Get out there, and you can see the whole field!"

The babbling stream chimed like her friend's voice—a time-lost dream, half-remembered yet achingly tender. She took human form then, bare feet tentative on the damp stone steps, each touch an echo of forgotten grace. The newly made soft robe trailed after her. When the thorny crown tore her friend's already frayed cloak, the icy wind carried sparks of tiny flames.

"The field under moonlight is beautiful. Even without moonlight, there are little glowing insects called Glimmerdrops back in my hometown," her friend said, unconcerned, patting her cloak. "Just a few, and they could light up the entire night sky!"

Round and round the gem revolved—she remembers everything, including this beautiful, pitiful wish. Yet the moonless night outlasted all imagining. What they'd dreamed would set the fields aglow faded grain by grain.

The weeping in the ghostly green wilds never ceased. Those people she couldn't have saved, those roars born of treachery—year after year, they seeped from her sorrow, flowing into her memory.

When the sun ceased to rise, she saw it. She saw the Woolfruit that was pressed into her arms rotting in her embrace. And the drowning mother's last clutch at her long veil—a breath against silk, lighter than a Glimmerdrop's sigh.

The deepest wound still coiled over her heart.

When death pierced her friend's chest, she saw it. She saw the wreath they had dreamed of together in the harvest season—vibrant, lush, once held against countless chests, passing on a light that seemed it would never fade.

Now tiny flames drifted near again. She knew it was the patrolling stylists reinforcing the seal; that friend who had guided her was about to leave her dream.

Round and round the gem revolved. She struggled violently, rusted chains scraping off flesh—and so she awakened. She remembered she still had unatoned sins to bear.

The undercurrent carried away a scarred serpent scale. The scale glimmered faintly into the night—like dying ember-glow from Wishfield's bonfire.

The Inspiration Behind the Design

In the shadowy marshes dwells a serpentine lady with pale skin and an aura of noble elegance. This outfit draws core inspiration from serpent motifs and the faintly glowing Shimmer Pond. To retain the serpent's dangerously ethereal essence while ensuring the snake-themed design remains approachable for players, the outfit primarily features flowing black fabric with a cool, emerald sheen for the gown's foundation. Gemstone-like highlights accentuate scaled textures, simulating the luster of embedded jewels. Combined with the lugubrious wetland setting, these details create an overall shimmering effect—as if the outfit has just emerged from water. Though serpents symbolize peril, our design avoids conveying pure menace or malice. Instead, it emphasizes their otherworldly elegance. Building on this vision, the art team integrated the Blue Tears with the marsh's subtle luminescence, culminating in a serpentine-themed outfit that harmonizes aesthetic beauty with thematic authenticity.

The Details Behind the Design

\[Outerwear: Cold Jade]

The outerwear piece's silhouette mimics a serpent's sinuous form. When moving forward, it coils behind the wearer like a snake's wake—fluid yet forbidding. To emulate serpentine texture, the fabric features subtle green iridescence with scale-patterned highlights. This maintains the otherworldly aesthetic while enhancing textual fidelity.

\[Dress: Deepwater Secrets]

The dress captures a serpent's essence through structural details: abdominal pleats mimic ventral scales, while the fitted cut echoes a snake's form. Deep teal shot silk replicates the dangerous beauty of snakeskin luster, achieving thematic resonance without literal reptilian motifs. A polished metal chest piece—reminiscent of mage regalia in western fantasy—adds striking contrast with bright metallic accents.

\[Gloves: Azure Scale]

Sharpened metallic claws emphasize the non-human identity, revealing lethal power beneath elegance. Iridescent scale patterning along the arms further signals this otherworldly nature.

\[Handheld: Fateful Soul]

This spellcasting orb swirls with aquatic energy, channeling the marsh's power. Drawing from their grasp of the outfit's essence, the art team crafted the orb with deliberate fractures—yet from each fissure spills a liquid light, where memories pool like unspent tears. The mystic teal gemstone mirrors the outfit's primary hue, its radiance a perilous beauty.

The Concept Behind the Ability

This outfit's ability ties closely into its thematic core. Upon activation, Nikki summons a pool of Blue Tears beneath her, creating an ethereal sanctuary. Water ripples outward in shimmering waves as the pool expands, its surface dancing with luminescent glimmers that ignite like submerged stars. After using the ability, Nikki's skin will transform into an ash-gray serpent-scale hue and iridescent scale patterns will emerge across her body, making her entire form glow with flowing light. If used near fishing spots, it will also attract large schools of fish to linger and listen to her lament together; if this ability is activated within pools of Blue Tears, then even more breathtaking visual effects will appear!

Malleus Cocconum: The Heiress - Dan
Dear players,

I’m Dan, the lead developer of this game.
We’re currently working on Chapter 4, and with this post, I’d like to speak to you more personally—about what’s been happening behind the scenes, and what lies ahead.

Over the past few months, a lot has changed in my life.
I moved to a new home.
I ended a three-year relationship.
My co-developer, Imiýta, left the team due to personal reasons.
A close family member was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery.

And yet, through it all, I never stopped working on this project. In a way, this game has become my emotional anchor. What keeps me going isn’t just passion—it’s your anticipation.
It’s every comment, every walkthrough, every fan illustration and piece of merch that reminds me: this world we’re building matters to someone out there.

We are still on track to release the full Antonio route on August 29 in Simplified Chinese. It will include four main endings and two hidden ones. This is a complete, self-contained story that will reveal the secrets behind Arenda’s family—and the unspeakable truths hidden within the school.

Unfortunately, the English and Traditional Chinese versions will not be ready by then. After the August update, I plan to take a short break to rest and recover. Our current goal is to release the English version by November, alongside the glossary system—a new feature to help players better follow the characters, lore, and narrative threads in this intricate world. In the meantime, we’ll be fixing minor bugs based on your feedback.

Looking further ahead, we plan to begin Mika’s route in the first half of 2026. This will be a brand-new storyline, equal in scale to Antonio’s arc, and it will delve into deeper secrets and reveal the hidden structure of this world.

Lastly, I want to say:
Being able to make this project is already a privilege. But even more so, it’s been a gift to meet all of you through it.
Thank you for loving the first two chapters.
So far, we’ve received zero negative reviews, and the responses you’ve left show a deep understanding of the story. That, more than anything, is the greatest reward for me as a writer.

Thank you for buying this game.
Thank you for recommending it to your friends.
I’ll continue doing my best to bring you stories that are rich, dark, and meaningful.

See you in August.

  • *BUG* Fixed localization errors for barrels and crop storage.
  • *BUG* Removed distance field listing on resource barrels causing weird sea foam to be around them.
  • *BUG* Fixed Fireplaces so that they now provide heat to the player.
  • Escape will now exit build mode as well instead of going to the pause menu.
  • Reduced monkey screams volume.
  • Moved dolphin to be around the starter island for better usage. Since he doesn't follow you (yet), you would have to leave him or your raft behind in order to use him. Unless you already saved him, he will now spawn somewhere near your starter island.
  • Added new building pieces: Pillars, Railing, Plain Walls (Wood and Stone), and a Ladder.
  • Added decoration pieces: Stool, Table, Nightstand, Rugs, and a Bird Stand. These are a work in progress, so if you have any ideas for ways to use / improve these, please send them my way.

Ren'Py 8.4

Updated to the Released version of Ren'Py 8.4 with more bug fixes in there.

Gallery

Change the back-end to making it more efficent for me to add Gallery Images (via automation). Also, I changed the refresh so it is only looking if the Show value is False. This will reduce the time between clicking on Gallery and it loading.

This was prompted by running into an image that I want to add to the gallery, and the method at the time meant careful editing of a dictionary. :) This changes that by creating an individual file in the dev folder (only on my system) that will automatically got through folders and json files to create a dictionary json that shown in the Source Code DLC.

There were also some bug fixes.

Improved Game Graphics Rendering

The current version now enables stylized rendering by default, significantly enhancing the overall visual experience. Additionally, anti-aliasing is set to medium level by default for smoother graphics.

If you encounter issues such as a black screen, rendering artifacts, or wish to reduce system resource usage, you can disable stylized rendering and adjust the anti-aliasing level in the main menu under Options > Common.
