Street Fighter® IV

Yoshinori Ono has stepped down as Street Fighter producer following a health scare.

Ono confirmed on Twitter that Capcom Japan will task another member of staff with steering the fighting game series forward, at least in the short term, as he focuses on making a full recovery.

Ono was taken ill last weekend during an event to promote Street Fighter x Tekken and rushed to hospital. The Japanese developer is known for his energetic presentations and enthusiasm during interviews with the press.

He tweeted: "I caused u so much worry for a while. I went back to work. SFteam're working wholeheartedly on patches for SFxTK, plz wait just a little longer.

"I apologize for that. And Thanks for a lot of get-well message!

"I'll refrain from work for current job for a while. Another person in charge of SF series for a while. Of course I'll constant support to it.

"I'll be out of the limelight as fighting game series for a while. I'll think about the new future of fighting game after this. ;D "

Then: "I dont know that how long time continued for a long time this job. But I'll try my best to be back here again.

"I can't speak with astonishment about I got airline ticket from my boss. Whats up! I really worry about what things will be like in future.

"Physical health is of paramount importance. Let's try to improve healthcare."

Ono enjoyed great success in his work on Street Fighter 4, which revitalised mainstream interest in the fighting game genre. Since then, he's overseen the release of a raft of games, including Super Street Fighter 4, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition, Super Street Fighter 4 3DS and, most recently, Street Fighter x Tekken. He also helped promote Tekken 3D: Prime Edition for Namco Bandai.

An official Street Fighter edition of Monopoly is on its way, board game company USAopoly has announced.

As noted on the Capcom Unity blog, locations on the game board will include Makoto in the Karate Dojo, Ryu on the Rooftops of Japan and Major Bison in the Shadaloo Headquarters.

There's a reader poll currently underway to decide which six characters from the game will be chiseled into the game's counters.

There's no word yet on when the set will be released or whether it'll be available in Europe, though you can take a look at a boxshot below.

This isn't the first video game tie-in from USAopoly. It's also produced a Metal Gear Solid-branded version of classic strategy game Risk, Super Mario chess and Donkey Kong Jenga.
