Hey everyone deploying a small hotfix regarding vicinity issues, check it out!




  • Fixed the issue where your items/chests/containers in the vicinity would sometimes not show up properly.

Hey hey everyone, Happy Thursday, Incoming a not so small Update with a lot of fixes, a goodie and with some improvements to server protection as well. Check it out! ->


With this hotfix as well we have included new protection methods against people avoiding ping limits. Such actions can bring server instability and lag for everyone and had to be done. This new protection is available for all server owners/hosters to enable if they so wish. As for officials we are currently enabling/disabling it on some servers to make sure everything is working properly. As soon as we are sure it is, we will be deploying it on all official servers.

You can enable/disable it in the server settings, called scum.EnableNetWatchdog=0 where 0 is disabled and 1 is enabled.

We would also like to say Happy Birthday to our loud yet in its own way charming community across the Atlantic, you are free to celebrate it with a new pattern to paint your... well whatever!

So you can be even more loud! And for everyone else dw you can change the colors on it to be sarcastic as well.


  • Fixed the issue when spawning a Rager vehicle with a full argument would spawn it with 2 storage racks instead of one.

  • Servers with unknown region set will now show up properly when filter is set to all servers.

  • Default outpost setting for dropship encounter spawning is now set to block instead of ignore.

  • Increased capacity of oak wine barrels.

  • Adjusted audio levels of musical instruments and footsteps.

  • It is now possible to customize items spawned by the prison wallet through a special item spawner preset.

  • Mobile Phone will now show notifications only when turned on.

  • Implemented a setting to disable DEENA and skipping the initial task.

  • Improved encounter spawning system distance check, now detecting not only encounter relevant players but all players near or in the zone.

  • Added a new prompt, warning players when crafting with items that hold other items to confirm the action.

  • Adjusted water resistance factor to footware.

  • Large vehicle parts will now be dropped when player goes prone.

    So, if we want to modify the base value of the NPC spawn rate and set the multiplier to 80, the calculation would look like this:

    By setting the NPC multiplier to 80, the chance for an NPC encounter to be selected (once an LTZ encounter is already triggered for which there is 20% chance) becomes approximately 93.39%.

  • New setting for disabling the encounter system:
    scum.EncounterNeverRespawnCharacters=0
    Encounter Never Respawn Characters
    Toggle On/Off (1/0)
    When enabled, this setting prevents the Encounter from respawning characters. All characters will only spawn at the beginning of the encounter and will not respawn afterward.

Hello everyone, we are a week into 1.0 and oh boy it has been quite a ride so far! So let us revisit what transpired and what is to come.



As the title says it has now been a week since we launched 1.0 (and a hotfix). And your feedback has been, to say the least, plentiful. As you can see, we are everywhere reading and responding, but let us address as much as possible in this post as well.

To start, thank you all for your increased interest in SCUM and the massive amount of feedback you've provided. Over the past week, there have been over 200k of you individuals coming back and checking the game with the highest ever active player peak since the EA release at 45k players CCU. Considering the master server issues we've been having the past week truly amazing to see as well!

With all that let's get into what we saw.

Server files

Despite the problems at the start with distribution, looks like server files are a big hit! (who knew?) with over 31000 self-hosted servers detected by us. There is also a great server files discussion going on our official Discord, so if you have any questions or need help, you can find it there. The community has also been really busy expanding their capability such as which platforms they can be hosted on. We ourselves are quite excited to see what's to come, and to ease any doubts support our community in their efforts.

NPCs

We can see that the majority of you enjoy the new threat on the island, and the major consensus is that it is a great first step but needs to be more refined and added to it. We agree, and improvements are planned so you have even more to look forward to.

Touching upon it as well, are the reports of the spawning system messing up again. We are looking into it and your feedback is the most important here. So all your recordings and included details such as system spec and server/SP settings, even if vanilla, it helps us pinpoint how and why it occurs.
Some of you might wonder why are we asking for this, are the reports not enough? Well, we hear the problem but unfortunately in local testing, it is hard to reproduce it unless we break the server settings. So the more details we get the better the chance that we resolve it.

Glad you guys are loving it so much. There are mixed feelings about the new bunkers we are monitoring the situation and looking at next steps.
We are also looking into other feedback about it including those pesky bugs you've been reporting in.

Reviews

Hey if we can have fun with some of them in trailers, we can also address some of them here as well. For now, focusing on those which are there due to some of the features that did not arrive with 1.0. As addressed in the Community addresses, we are not running away from this responsibility and acknowledge our part in this. We will be still working on the game until those are fulfilled and more. This also goes into the roadmap we released last month. We do however also see mentions of "promises" that were actually never made, such as switching the game to UE5 which became an urban myth. So no this is not a call for changing your review.

All that and more feedback you guys have been giving us, we assure you we are looking at it.

For even more questions and answers you might be having, we are here, on our forums and in our Discord as much as we can. We are also doing a Developer playthrough stream with Q&A in chat this Thursday on our Twitch channel.

  • Fixed the issue where admins were not able to log in their servers when they were full.
  • Fixed the issue where prefarb stoves and refrigerators would disappear.
  • Temp adjusted trench foot gain (nerfed) due to wetness bug.
  • Fixed the issue where admins could not remove locks with admin unlock.
  • Fixed global raiding times on official servers.
  • Fixed ping limit on global official servers.
  • Fixed the issue where solo/duo servers squad limit was not set correctly.
  • Fixed the issue where HC servers had 3rd person enabled.
  • Fixed the issue where PvE servers were not set correctly.
  • Fixed the issue where you could not hear other players voicelines.

Known issues:
  • Using photo mode while in vehicle, can cause vehicles to disappear. Avoid until it is fixed.
  • Character voice line subtitles will be shown to all players who can hear the voice lines.
  • Due to reimporting kitchen stoves and refrigerators, you might lose your cooking progress. It was either that or a wipe.
  • Servers sometimes not showing up in server browser.
  • Admins still cannot remove locks when lockpicking is disabled in global config.

Let's get on with the big one! With 1.0 the whole Island and environment have been reworked, revamped, and optimized. You will find massive changes from revamped POIs, brand new greenery, foliage system, snow biome shoreline, and much more. But do not worry, the POI location layout is exactly as you remember it. Your Zagorje is right where you left it, only different.



Not only are there changes to the environment, but we also have a completely new wetness system. Including how it visualizes on terrain, gear, and other things such as reduced visibility. Giving a whole new atmospheric feel to the island.



It will also take some time after the rain has stopped for the terrain to dry procedurally as well. This might seem like a small thing but when you see it in action your jaw will drop.



Not only that, but with the Island rework also comes so much terrain bug fixing as well, listing them all would be impossible. A major one is that with new optimizations and streaming speed, it means no more vehicles falling through terrain or buildings when driving at high speed.

Another big change are the bunkers, as there is another type of bunkers active!
Secret bunkers are now spread on the island, requiring a keycard to get in. Lower in loot but a safe option to gear yourself up. Do not think you can just linger in them and farm loot though, same exploit security system is in place just like in other bunkers.




This also means reduction in AB bunkers making them high risk high reward end game content they were intended to be.

With all this and so much more, it is truly SCUM Island 1.0.



Get ready to take cover! Armed NPCs are on the island, roaming, just waiting to get your head.



These new NPCs are a game changer on the island in both SP, PVE, and PvP because you never know when they will strike. Including multiple Tiers of NPCs, depending on the Tier, they will come at you with different gear so expect the unexpected.



Well, not just you, as you could also find them fighting puppets, as well as trying to survive.



Keep your head on a swivel, observe everything, admire nothing.



Return of the kings! Mariner and the Tractor are back in thier modular glory!



The Mariner, a well-known Seaplane, capable of taking off/landing on both land and water is the ultimate fast transport to wherever you wish and def choice vehicle for you Island dwellers.



Tractor is back! Not only that but it can now also be configured to be a force to reckon with. You have the standard version.



And naturally, we have a version for reasonable men, forced to do unreasonable things.





With 1.0 also you are able to make your own quests for your server or SP game. We already touched upon that on Saturday releasing the documentation and the tool early to give you time to get yourself familiar. You can find it here:

Some big news in the weapons department as well. There have been many upgrades regarding them. To start with all weapons have got a fresh new crisp texture work and a really heavy pass of animations.



This includes not only animations on weapons but also shadows, on both melee and ranged weapons.

A change has been made to the way they are presented in the first person as well. We moved the camera around a bit more so that when you are moving around with a weapon in your hands it no longer takes up much of your screen, so you can still see what you are carrying and have good visibility.



This change not only goes for weapons but all items carried in hands.



Massive improvements have been made to First Time User Experience as well. From new tutorials, searchable codex, better tips and tricks everything. SCUM has always been and always will be a complex game to get into. We want to keep that, yet we still wish to help as many people as possible to enter ultimate survival.
Not only that we are opening a new set of Official servers with settings that will suit beginners, so if you are new or a returning player there is no better time to get into it.

To our beloved SCUM community,

Way back when in 2018., we embarked on a journey that no one could have prepared us for. Fueled by hope and ambition, we set out to create something truly special and remarkable. We were a small team, but we thought and dreamed big.

To take it up a notch with realistic survival gameplay.

As with any journey, there were plenty of bumps along the way. Those that were with us from the very beginning know what we’re talking about. We had our ups and downs, we made great updates and had to make some unpopular and crappy, but necessary decisions.

Regardless of everything, you awesome guys and gals stuck around, through thick and thin. You believed in us. You’re the reason we’re still around. You’re the reason we got all the way up to this pivotal point.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything. For all the feedback, for all the hours spent in the game, for all the communities you’ve built, for micromanaging your bowel movements, for all the tears you wept when your car filled to the brim with gear fell through the map (it’s fixed btw). Thank you for the patience, love and understanding you’ve shown us over these long seven years.

Even though we’re done with Early access, 1.0 is just the beginning. You saw our roadmap. We’re not just about to call it quits and leave the game as it is. There still so much we can add, improve and rework and we can’t wait to show what we have planned for the years to come.

The release 1.0 launch is cause for celebration, you can damn well be certain we’re going to properly honor the occasion. We’d also like to invite you to celebrate with us by making those puppet heads roll, to take down those pesky sentries and dropships and to ruin your neighbor’s day by blowing up their base.
