Godhood is out today in early access, the latest deity simulation from the fittingly theological-sounding Abbey Games. Not the first time they’ve taken on the concept of being a god (and in the game), but instead of steering the world-altering titans of Reus, this time your influence is a little more subtle. Create a god, set what virtues and traits you want to embody, then try and nudge your followers into going out and converting others to worship you, whether through music, violence or sexy dancing. Below, a debut trailer showing the undoing of a god of light and peace.

Reusheader

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time.>

I ve left so many possibilities in Reus unexplored. It s a God game where you control four elemental giants, and terraform a planet for the benefit of unruly human settlers. (more…)

Renowned Explorers was like an oasis of calm and colour in the cavernous halls of Gamescom. It s a game about travelling the world in search of impressive artifacts to show off at the World Expo, but rather than making the journey into a nightmare of scurvy and resource management, developers Abbey Games have opted for a sort of turn-based tactics adventure that combines Tintin, Indiana Jones and Jules Verne. It s a game in which scientists wield Tesla guns and the Mexican contingent of the expedition is a lady Luchador who can pin pirates to the ground while her buddies charm the peglegs off them.>

The RPS chatroom, earlier.

It’s almost hard to believe there was a time when we weren’t being constantly bombarded with cheap games, but it’s true. When I was a lad, I had to save up for two months, walk miles through snow to the nearest PC World, and turn my coins over for a game that probably wouldn’t even work. Now every hobo with a bindle is buying bundles of games for only a single week’s pocket money.

Humble Bundle X is the tenth bundle in the “main” series of Humble Bundles, and it contains To The Moon, Reus, Papa & Yo, Surgeon Simulator 2013, Bit.Trip Runner 2 and Joe Danger 2: The Movie. Which is a better, more interesting selection of games than I’ve seen in a bundle in a while. I’ve written more about each of them below. (more…)

I think they missed a big opportunity in choosing not to call the game's resources 'Reus Pieces'.

Hey, kid. Yeah, I’m talkin’ to you. You wanna buy some- oh jeez, shush! Police and/or an out-of-touch politician! OK, phew. They’ve passed now. Anyway, might I interest you in some videogames>? Oh, don’t worry: they’re real. Fresh out of the oven too, if you know what I mean. Heh. What’ve I got? You’re in luck today, kid. Yes indeed. Ever wonder what it’d feel like to be god >- and also a planet, and also some manner of crab giant? Well then, Reus might just float your boat, if you know what I mean. Heh. No good? Brain too rotten from your “Call of Honorfield” murder machines? Hm, then how about Renaissance Heroes? It’s got all of the guns and none of the plausibility! Go to beauteous portions of 16th century Renaissance Europe and then blow them up! That sort of thing. Oh, you want trailers? Mr high-roller, huh? Fine, fine. Go past the break and they’re all yours. If you know what I mean. Heh.
