We’re Potato Kid—a brand-new indie game studio, and we’re thrilled to introduce our debut title: Talaka. It’s great to meet you!

We’re a small team pouring our hearts into crafting a game that’s unique, memorable, and genuinely fun—for you, the player who’s going to dive into it.

Who We Are

Though Potato Kid is new, we’re not exactly rookies. We’ve been making games for over 13 years under other studios and brands. For the past six, we’ve focused on premium console and PC titles, working with publishers and clients on work for hire projects we’re proud to have delivered—on time and on budget.

But somewhere along the way, the joy of making games... slipped away.

Deadlines got tighter. Approvals got harder. Creative freedom shrank. We found ourselves buried in meetings, certifications, team scaling, and stakeholder juggling—drifting further from the games themselves with each passing day.

Then came the post-COVID industry crash. Projects dried up. Everything we’d built crumbled. We weren’t just back to square one—we were at square minus one, with bills to pay and big questions to answer.

2023 and 2024 were brutal. We hit our breaking points. We asked ourselves: Why keep doing this? Why make games? Should we move on to something else?

Looking deep down, we realized we still had something to say. Something to build. Our own game. Our own IP. A project born from everything we’ve learned, everything we love, and everything we still believe in when it comes to game development.

Enter Talaka

Talaka has its own wild and winding origin story (we’ll save that for another post), but at its core, it’s a love letter to action games and game-making itself, while reflecting on the clash of cultures that we live in nowdays.

We are going for all the things that make us tick in games: bold art, tight mechanics, fun combat, a unique setting, awesome characters, a provocative story, that roguelite one-more-try magic, and, most of all, meaning behind every single detail we add into the game.

We’re working hard to bring Talaka to life, and we’re incredibly grateful to be partnering with Acclaim and their amazing team. They’ve given us the support and space to make Talaka the best it can be.

This is just the beginning. We’ve got so much to share—and many exciting things cooking behind the scenes.

Paws Against the World - Patch Notes: Kangaroo Kickoff UpdateHey Adventurers,
Hop into action with a new hero, new mouse support, and polished visuals! Here’s the latest:

  • New Character: Kangaroo: Bounce into battle with the Kangaroo, wielding unique abilities and Primal Relics, plus a new Steam Achievement for completing runs.

  • Difficulty Completion Icons: Unlock a special image for each difficulty when completed, showcasing your furry triumphs.

  • Animation Upgrades: Slightly improved animations for all characters for smoother, cuter combat.

  • Sound Enhancements: Refined audio for weapons, abilities, and zombie moans for a more immersive vibe.

  • Mouse Support Added: Keyboard/Mouse players can now use left-click for placeable weapon 1 and right-click for placeable weapon 2 (e.g., Sunflower Plant, Cactus), and move the character with the mouse movement.

  • Bug Fixes:

    • Fixed Penguin not granting item bonus rewards upon run completion.

    • Corrected missing display of Penguin’s times beaten stat.

Jumps increase speed, flatten out and slow down at the end to make it easier to land

Bugs & Crashes:
  • Fixed a crash that could happen when loading into certain hunts.
  • Fixed a crash caused by an entity's GUID becoming invalid.
  • Fixed a bug where you could become stuck on the Gem Screen while using a controller.
  • Fixed a crash caused by a room change timeout happening while a player was still speaking with an NPC.
  • Fixed cases where projectiles (such as those spawned by the power Shrapnel) could cause poor performance or even crashes when hitting closely packed targets.
  • Fixed a bug where some legacy saves could be prevented from crafting proto-weapons until they progressed their relationship with Hamish.
  • Fixed a crash when joining a game in progress that was in the game over hunt summary screen.
  • Fixed instances where the UI that previews how much Anomaly Progress you will gain upon exiting a room would not appear.
  • Fixed a case where then Imbued Gooseberry explosion would not deal any damage.

Changes:
  • Changed the first Hunter's Path challenge in the Thorned Quagmire
    • "Purchase a Power Item from Nimble!" -> "Take a Power sold by Nimble!"

新版本改动较大文件变动比较多相当于将游戏重新下载,第一次启动新版本将会有短暂的CPU跟内存高占用是正常现象(编译材质生成缓存)缓存文件生成完成后将恢复正常

2025年9月11日0.5.7版本更新

  • 引擎版本从UE5.5升级到最新的UE5.6,升级DLSS、FSR、XeSS等插件到最新版本

  • 新版本场景资源加载速度有一定提升可以减少飞行时加载场景的卡顿情况(飞到高空从天而降到美术资源较多的中心区域依然会有短暂加载卡顿:例如一炁宗主殿)

  • 重构底层运动系统和优化战斗系统

    • 重制男女角色的基础移动动画(走跑跳待机),女性角色使用女性化特征更强的移动动画

    • 新增玩家女性模型专用的基础移动,之前版本创建的女性角色可以在背包页面角色模型的上方的角色编辑功能中切换一次女性模型会更新到新女性动画

    • 地面、空中攻击自动索敌、朝向优化(在新武器中体现)

    • 空中战斗时,允许按下冲刺按钮立即打断当前动作向目标方向移动

  • 新增特殊武器:嗜魂刀,武器可升级解锁不同机制,以及一整套专用的动画,古修遗迹掉落

  • 重构目标锁定系统,鼠标中键显示准心,Tab锁定准心方向的敌人,再次按下取消锁定,锁定目标下一定距离后自动取消锁定,敌人死亡自动取消锁定

  • 早期发射类功法、弓箭追踪优化,优先追踪准心朝向的敌人

  • E键范围拾取修改为境界越高拾取范围越大

  • 游戏设置中增加修改镜头抖动强度的设置

  • 合欢宗场景修改美化,NPC位置会有变化,在修改前的版本接取的合欢宗委托提交时的目标追踪位置是旧版本的,新接取的不影响

  • 自动存档由原先的5分钟改为间隔15分钟,自动保存时会出现短暂卡顿,可以在游戏设置中关闭,增加自动保存开始执行时的提示文本,告知可能短暂卡顿

  • 修改一炁宗宗门功法兑换引导的需求功法

  • 客卿长老修改为不允许已经加入宗门的弟子参加考核,客卿长老是留给外部人员加入的跟宗门内部其他考核有冲突,有部分玩家越级考核成为客卿后导致已经参加的级别更低的内门/执事考核无法完成

  • 修复种植上限只有5株灵植的异常情况

  • 修复巨剑术极意御空飞行过程中释放shi动画异常

Currently, the server browser always displays 0 players, even when players are connected.

This is a display bug only – you can still join and play normally.

A fix is being worked on for an upcoming update.

Minor fixes and stability improvements across networking and gameplay.
