Hey everyone, just pushed a small update to (hopefully) fix an issue where some maps weren’t showing up in the search results.

What changed:

Tweaked how maps get indexed so they should appear more reliably in search.

Since it’s just me working on this, I can’t test every possible case — so if you still run into missing maps, please drop a note in the community hub and I’ll dig in.

New Gameplay mode

-Colosseum mode now available. This is a non-story mode that can be played separately with your characters. All experience/items/gold received here can be transferred over to the main story line.

-This is a combat-only mode that can have upto 16 of your characters pitted against NPCs of all strengths.

-There are no negative faction hits on any opponent fought in Colosseum mode.

Welcome back!

I had a heck of a move-in back to college, but now we're back with a new devlog, and I've got some exciting tech to show today:

Live Playback!

Playing a level in the editor now causes music to play where appropriate, and as a bonus, the parser moves around and is accompanies by some simplified effects + sounds to simulate playing the level!! Be sure to play this one with audio on!

There were some issues with the old playback system where it would go out of sync, but this one (still using ease) relies on a timer to keep the player in check, even if there are lagspikes. The whole thing is also compatible with any BPM which is a huge relief to be done with as well!

At this point, thanks to this feature, the editor is pretty much capable of being used to map songs if you're a dev with access. A lot still needs to be manually changed, but now for the first time, as long as you plug a lot in, you can effectively have a mapping session :) Yippie!!!

Next week..

Stuff™ is occurring this week for me as always, but I should be able to get more done on the editor. Now that the player is effectively done, we can move on to actual UI pieces for adjusting BPM, offset, title, and more. I can't wait to talk about it! And now, I'm going to lose a little sleep mapping some of my favorite songs on this thing lol.

While we're still hard at work on the 1.1 feature update, this patch includes a few bugfixes we wanted to get to customers in 1.0, sooner. This includes:

  • Fixes a softlock when performing certain world map traversal actions

  • Fixes a hang when fighting a certain enemy in Cordelia's chapter

  • Fixes a hang when providing unexpected input during a minigame in chapter 9

Montabi - Bochi

Hi Trainers and Montabi friends,

I hope you’re all doing really well. Once again, thank you for following us, and special thanks to those of you who joined our playtest last month.

In August we focused on adding early drafts for all planned Montabi in the game. In the demo there are 9 species lines of Montabi that players can try, including their evolutions. Now we have added early drafts of 13 new species lines, with evolutions included, making a total of 39 new Montabi.

Disclaimer: all of this new content is still in an iteration stage. We are currently using placeholder illustrations and icons. The main goal is to test playstyles and validate them with the community. Speaking of validation, we held another community playtest session after gaining a lot of insights during the one at the end of July. So once again, if you're interested in trying out content in development, join our Discord and stay tuned for the next playtest opportunities.

Compared to the last playtest build, this version allows players to try more content:

That brings the current total to 22 species lines of Montabi, with 66 Montabi in total including evolutions. Each Montabi above has its own primary playstyle, and many of them can be combined for fun mix-and-match strategies and synergies.

What’s Next:

As mentioned in the previous devlog, our main focus is still on implementing Montabi, iterating, and making them fun to play. This August playtest helps us collect valuable feedback and opinions about the new Montabi. Once again, this was a closed playtest, but you can join our playtester group on Discord.

We will also be focusing on adjusting and adding new content to support these Montabi:

  • Adjustments to existing charms and equipment

    • New charms

    • New equipment

    • New supplies

    • Additional Elites and Bosses
