SCP: Echoes - Virtual
Road to an Alpha Build

We've been working to get an alpha build into the hands of players, but there are some things we're still working on before we release an alpha build.

A general list will be provided here.

The current to-do list:

  • Removal of SCP: SL assets

  • Fixing many of the physics related bugs (Ragdoll lag, physics prop flying and exploits)

  • Updating some of the user interfaces

  • Finish the initial Light Containment Zone rooms

Future Plans

Everything here is subject to change, but is not something holding us back from an alpha build.

This is also not a complete list.

  • More Items (SCP-500, SCP-207)

  • More guns

  • Radios

  • Cuffs

  • Melee weapons

  • Achievements and rewards

  • Server list filtering and tagging

Clips

Finally, here is a clip of a bug we found funny when testing physics props. Note that it has since been patched. (Thanks to closequarter for the clip)

Half-Life: Cross Product Multiplayer - hiphopparappa

We are excited to announce the Closed Beta for Half-Life: Cross Product Multiplayer on Steam.

This beta is a major milestone as we bring the game to Steam for the first time. Selected players will be granted access via a Beta CD Key, which can be redeemed and activated on Steam; testing spaces are limited, so join early if you'd like to be involved.

HOW TO JOIN

To apply for access, join our official Discord server and follow the instructions in the channel named "closedbeta-apply" once you have verified your membership.

WHAT'S NEW IN 2.9.2 - STEAM RELEASE UPDATE

Among testing against general network quirks, and the many gamemodes we have to offer, here's some of what you'll be testing in this build:

  • Kasino: now uses texture-based lighting for enhanced performance and visuals.

  • CTF maps: now playable across all gamemodes.

  • Displacement gametype is now on the Instagib gametype—an accurate enough shot gets you a frag.

  • Bullet-hole decals now display as expected.

  • New sound effects for the Shield/Suit Armour Regeneration, and the Shock Rifle.

  • Full Steam Input support—controller vibration, PlayStation Light Bar support

  • In CTF, flag carriers are now marked with a flag icon on the scoreboard.

There are more details about 2.9.2 in the Discord Server, once you have been accepted into the Closed Beta program.

WHY A CLOSED BETA?

To keep testing focused, all participants agree to a short set of testing terms which are nothing heavy or complicated, but just a few rules to ensure fair play, respectful feedback, and a consistent experience across testers. These also help prevent unfinished content from being shared or misinterpreted ahead of our full release. Before diving in you'll be given a moment to review these terms.

GIVE US YOUR FEEDBACK

Once you're in, you'll see dedicated channels on the Discord Server which are available for bug reports, suggestions, and gameplay discussion. We're looking for all kinds of feedback, big or small, so don't feel you have to hold back.

So, what are you waiting for? Apply NOW! https://discord.gg/mGr94ZqDWU

And we hope to see you on the virtual battlefield!

Until next time...

HOTFIX: Just a few small fixes today:

  • The button to dismiss group member 1 has gone missing, I've returned it to its designated location.

  • The "Bell Puzzle" in Bellwain was not bugged but it was also possible to get stuck on it due to the first and last notes being the same note if the player fiddled with it prior to inputting the correct solution and left his fiddling on the correct 'first note'.

  • Our fantastic composer has added a new audio track for Abyssal Lake. That's in game now.

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu - Nacon

It took no more than a single look at that monstrous and insidious cylinder to make me realise the dizzying gulfs that yawned between all men of the known earth and the primal mysteries it represented. Before that gulf Pánfilo de Zamacona and I stood side by side; just as Aristotle and I, or Cheops and I, might have stood.

– H.P. Lovecraft, The Mound

We wanted to share a few thoughts about the literary and philosophical approach that lies at the heart of The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, and how it relates to Lovecraft’s work.

How The Mound inspired a new kind of descent

Our story starts with The Mound, a brilliant but lesser-known Lovecraft novella about an ancient underground civilization hidden beneath a burial mound in the American Midwest. It’s a strange, haunting tale of the slow decay into monstrousness of a civilization that has shut out the world, abandoning reason for an increasingly cruel hedonism. A fascinating story-within-a-story, with ambitious themes and science-fictional ideas. For our game, we’ve taken that story and transplanted it into a different time, not to lessen the game’s connection to Lovecraft’s vision, but to engage with that vision from a different angle, one rooted deeply in the themes he was exploring.

An age of transformation

The 17th century was a time of discovery, conquest, religious zeal, and intellectual foment - an era when ancient beliefs clashed with the rising spirit of the Enlightenment, which provided a new and often terrifying understanding of the cosmos and our place in it. A time when scientific curiosity often walked hand in hand with colonial brutality, and many were caught between the comforting stories of the past and the frightening vistas of the future. Nowhere is this more clear than in the explorers and conquistadors of the Age of Discovery. Our story follows a group of such explorers as they encounter a world that will challenge all of their beliefs, scientific as well as religious.

Collaborate to survive

To handle the writing, we’ve brought in our old friend Jonas Kyratzes, who also worked with us on The Eternal Cylinder and Clash: Artifacts of Chaos. You may also know him from The Talos Principle I and II, both of which explore materialist philosophy. Unsurprisingly, Jonas counts Lovecraft as one of his biggest literary inspirations.

Lovecraft's Legacy

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu isn’t a one-to-one adaptation of Lovecraft’s story. There are differences in characters, in the setting, and in the era itself, but every one of these changes was made to create a story that will stay true to our commitment of taking Lovecraft seriously as a writer and thinker, and to create a cosmic experience that we hope old HPL himself would’ve found thought-provoking and terrifying. (After he learned how to use a computer, of course.)

Some stories don’t need to be retold to stay alive. They just need to be reawakened.
