New World: Aeternum - nickibre

In this update, players can look forward to three all-new Artifacts and three remastered ones, each designed to support new playstyles, fresh combinations, and deeper progression paths. Here’s a closer look at what’s coming.

New Artifacts

Plagueherald Mask

Once used by a mysterious plague doctor of Aeternum, the Plagueherald Mask turns disease into a deadly weapon. Ideal for aggressive support builds or disruptors, it punishes enemies with stacking on top of each other, while requiring careful timing and positioning.

  • Plaguespreader: Abilities and light attacks inflict a stack of 3% Disease (max 10 stacks). You also gain 1% Disease per stack applied. At 10 stacks, heavy attacks consume all stacks to trigger a 6s cloud around the target, inflicting 20% Disease and 10% Weaken to nearby enemies (12s cooldown).

  • Gem Slot: Leeching Spectral Ward

  • Refreshing

  • Freedom

  • Random Perk

  • How to get: Available through PvP Reward Track.

Hammer of Yeet

A spring-loaded relic of unknown origin, the Hammer of Yeet launches foes with explosive force and converts knockbacks into chain-damage opportunities. For War Hammer players who want both spectacle and impact.

  • Yeet: +300% push distance and +10% base damage to all War Hammer knockbacks. Clear Out ignites the first target hit, turning them into a projectile that deals 100% weapon damage to enemies they pass through.

  • Sundering Clear Out

  • Plagued Strikes

  • Alternating Enchantment

  • Random Perk

  • How to get: Available through PvP Reward Track.

Crescent’s Wave

Infused with volatile arcane energy, the Crescent’s Wave gives Greatsword users a magical ranged option with a mana-driven twist. Its unique wave mechanic creates windows for high burst at long range.

  • Parallax: +12% base damage to targets farther than 10m (applies to both weapons).

  • Crescent Wave: While above 50% health, heavy attacks cast a projectile forward dealing 150% weapon damage. Melee heavy attack damage is reduced by 50%. Each wave costs 20 mana.

  • Thwarting Strikes

  • Sundering Stacks

  • Random Perk

  • How to get: Available through PvP Reward Track.

Remastered Artifacts:

Vengeance:

This remastered Life Staff encourages mobility, burst healing, and thoughtful targeting. Built for support players who want to contribute beyond healing-over-time.

  • Life Support: Outgoing healing is increased by 25% when not affected by any Life Staff HoT effects. When basic attacks pass through allies, they gain 20% stamina regen and 30% mana regen for 3s.

  • Keen Beacon - Reworked in this release to grant increased crit damage instead of crit chance.

  • Refreshing Move

  • Enchanted

  • Random Perk

  • How to get: Available through PvP Reward Track.

Grey Wizard’s Hat

A light armor helm designed for fast-casting spell slingers. By managing your mana pool wisely, you can squeeze in more heavy hits with less charge time.

  • Quickened Casting: While above 50% mana, magic weapon ranged heavy attacks charge 25% faster.

  • Gem Slot: Empty Socket

  • Refreshing

  • Physical Aversion

  • Random Perk

  • How to get: Available through PvP Reward Track.

Creed

This rework brings a new layer of power to critical hits from stealth, headshots, and backstabs — ideal for precision assassins and light weapon users alike.

  • Ambush: Backstabs and headshots deal 20% increased crit damage and apply 10% Weaken for 5s. You also gain 10% Empower and 10% crit chance for 5s. (Target cannot be Ambushed again for 15s)

  • Gem Slot: Empty Socket

  • Refreshing

  • Freedom

  • Random Perk

  • How to get: Available through PvP Reward Track.

Artifact Tuning Update

We’ve also made a minor but meaningful update to Trsna:

  • Consume now applies 25% life steal not just to knocked-down enemies, but also to stunned, rooted, and sluggish targets.

This broadens its usability across various crowd-control-based builds.

Looking Ahead

Season 9 introduces a new rhythm for how we approach Artifacts: fewer releases per season, with a tighter focus on impact, creativity, and player utility. By adding a mix of new items that open up fresh builds and reworking underused Artifacts, we’re aiming to keep gear diversity high while making sure older favorites don’t fall behind. We hope these additions give you more flexibility in how you play. As always, we’re looking forward to hearing what you think. We'll see you in Aeternum.

New World: Aeternum - nickibre

Change is a constant in Aeternum — and as our world evolves, so must the structure that supports it. Today, we’re announcing a set of upcoming world merges aimed at improving player population, matchmaking, and overall activity across all regions.

A Stronger, More Connected World

Updated July 23 After thorough consideration of community feedback received about the planned world merges, the decision has been made to retain one world in the AP Southeast and SA East regions. The decision to merge worlds is made with consideration for many areas affected by player population such as queue times, and availability of opportunities to take part in multiplayer content. Our goal is to provide the best experience for players possible, and we understand concerns around latency and how important performance is to players. We thank you for all of your feedback, and for the enthusiasm from the New World: Aeternum communities in the AP Southeast and SA East regions.

Cross-Play Evolves

Platform-exclusive Xbox worlds will be merged into regional cross-play environments. This will allow console players to enjoy all the challenges of Aeternum alongside a larger player base, creating more opportunities for adventures, alliances, and epic conflict.

One PlayStation-exclusive world will remain in the US East region for those who prefer platform-specific play. All other PlayStation worlds will be merged into that world, giving players the freedom to choose their path — whether it’s sticking with familiar territory or stepping into the broader cross-play world.

The Worlds in Motion

Here are the specific merges taking place:

  • To El Dorado (US West):

    • Aquarius & Pleiades (US West)

  • To Delos (AP Southeast)

    • Cerberus & Crux (AP Southeast)

    • To Devaloka (SA East)

    • Alkaid & Chertan (SA East)

  • To Aries (EU):

    • Iroko (EU)

  • To Pangea (US East):

    • Sundew (US East)

  • To Tumtum - Playstation Only (US East):

    • Nihal (SA East)

    • Taiyi (AP Southeast)

    • Mardi (EU)

    • Kronomo (US West)

Important Dates to Remember

To ensure a smooth transition, please note the following:

  • Tuesday, July 22

    • Brief server restart for retiring worlds

    • Character creation and transfers will be disabled on those worlds

  • Sunday, July 27

    • All Wars on retiring worlds will be canceled and refunded

  • Wednesday, July 30

    • Access to retiring worlds will be disabled

    • Characters and companies will be relocated to new home worlds

    • Territories on retiring worlds will be refunded to owning companies

    • Reimbursement begins for transfer tokens used in the last 14 days

Just a heads-up: inactive players from affected regions will be placed into either a crossplay world (for Xbox) or the dedicated PlayStation world on US East, depending on their platform.

We’ll continue to monitor world populations and performance closely after the merge, and we’re committed to staying adaptive as Aeternum continues to grow and evolve.

A New Dawn Awaits

These world merges are about more than consolidation — they’re about crafting the best version of New World: Aeternum for every adventurer. Whether you’re gathering with friends for a dungeon run, waging war over territory, or forging your path through the unknown, we want your world to be dynamic, challenging, and brimming with life.

We’ll see you in Aeternum!

The Castle map is a large, symmetrical arena built with high-risk objectives, vertical movement, and tactical creativity in mind.

We sat down with the development team to break down the map’s design, the unique gameplay mechanics it supports, and how player feedback has shaped its evolution since the Preview Weekend.

Castle Map Design

The Castle map was designed to offer a more expansive play space while still supporting the fast-paced, objective-based gameplay central to Capture the Flag.

Layout and Key Features

Central High-Risk Path: A short, direct route runs through the middle of the map, providing the fastest path to the enemy flag—but also the most dangerous.

Elevated Side Lanes: Each side of the map includes raised platforms, obstacles, and multiple paths. These areas feature jump pads for creative movement and quick escapes.

Symmetry with Visual Distinction: While the map is symmetrical for competitive balance, one side has been visually marked with corruption effects to help players keep track of orientation during matches.

“We were inspired by the Dynasty art style of Ebonscale Reach,” the team shared. “We added corrupted elements to one side of the map to create clear visual differentiation and help with in-match navigation.”

The open midsection creates opportunities for long-range combat, while the sides offer cover and flanking routes—giving all weapon types room to shine.

Jump pads aren’t just for mobility—they play a strategic role in flag runs. Power-ups are placed along the perimeter of the map, encouraging players to take alternative routes that reward clever movement and timing. Following the feedback during the first Preview Weekend, several power-ups were adjusted for clarity and effectiveness:

  • Damage Power up: Empower duration increased to 30 seconds

  • Heal Power up: Healing now provides a flat 10,000 health

  • Speed Power up: Haste duration increased to 7 seconds

Challenges and Solutions

Designing a symmetrical map presented some early hurdles. Players often found it hard to identify which side they were on, especially in the heat of battle. Adding corrupted visuals to one side significantly improved orientation. Similarly, early testing revealed it was difficult to track flag carriers due to the map’s scale. Adding a visible beam on flag carriers solved that issue and helped focus team objectives.

Live Tuning Tools and Season 9 Innovations

The team has implemented flexible live-tuning tools that allow them to adjust key settings on the fly. These include:

  • Flag respawn and lockout durations

  • Player respawn delays

  • Power-up spawn timers

  • Scoring rules and win conditions

These tools will allow for responsive tuning during Season 9 and beyond.

What’s Next for Capture the Flag

The team is already testing additional variants and rule sets for future updates:

Neutral Flag Variant: In addition to the enemy flags, a neutral flag spawns in the center of the map, with both teams racing to capture and score.

First-to-Three Scoring: Alternate pacing and match lengths to suit different playstyles and competitive formats. Advanced Rulesets: Competitive-focused formats such as sudden death or a one-flag mode are possible future variants.

With new mechanics, improved balance, and live-tuning flexibility, Season 9 lays the groundwork for deeper competitive play and evolving variants in the months ahead. Whether you’re coordinating a team push, pulling off a last-second escape, or fine-tuning your loadout for the perfect flag run, this new mode brings fresh opportunities for strategy and skill.

Stay sharp, and we’ll see you on the battlefield.
