Today, we’re standing at one of the biggest turning points in the history of Castle of Blackwater. After months of updates, experiments, and tough conversations, we’re finally ready to share the decision that will shape the future of this game and its community forever. :heart:

Let’s rewind for a moment.⌛

Over the past few weeks, we launched the Bloom and Gloom update, redesigned the map for more player interactions, added new animations, and completely overhauled the lighting to make the Castle feel spookier and more alive than ever. The response from those who joined during the Steam Summer Sale was incredible. Players were loving it. 🤩

But despite the best version of Castle we’ve ever shipped, one challenge remained: player liquidity. Even with a discount, even with more marketing than ever before, there was still a barrier stopping new players from trying the game. And without a critical mass of players, matchmaking wasn’t as healthy as it needed to be.

We asked ourselves some hard questions. Is our mission just to squeeze out a few more sales? Or is it to create the thriving, chaotic, and hilarious community that Castle of Blackwater was always meant to have?

The answer was obvious.
So here’s the big news: CASTLE OF BLACKWATER IS GOING FREE-TO-PLAY! 📢 ✨

Yes, you read that right. Starting tomorrow on Wednesday, July 23rd 2025, the Castle doors will be open to everyone. 👐

What This Means For Current Players
If you’ve already supported us by buying the game, you’re the reason we made it this far. We’re not leaving you behind. In fact, you’re getting some special rewards that free players will never have access to.
  • You’ll keep the full collection of 21 starter cosmetics from the tutorial (which will soon be massively reduced for new players).
  • You’ll also receive an exclusive Mythical Cosmetic, a one-of-a-kind reward that will NEVER be made available again.

We are pleased to bring you the 7th official update (v1.07), with continuous optimizations to enhance your gaming experience. Here are the details:

  1. Optimized robot behavior logic
    When robots perform tasks such as land reclamation, building construction, or building demolition, they will first complete all pending tasks of the same type before moving on to other tasks in the task list. If power runs out, they will still prioritize recharging.

  2. Optimizations for farms

    • Adjusted farm values

    • Improved judgment of robot transportation positions for farms

  3. New reminder feature
    Added unlock reminders for Level 3 buildings to help you track progress more easily.

  4. Adjusted early-game building costs
    Optimized the purchase prices of some buildings in the early stages to make initial development smoother.

  5. Fixed robot stuttering issue
    Resolved the rare case where flying robots get stuck while constructing buildings.

  6. Other optimizations
    Fixed some known issues and improved content formatting.

Hi! Thanks for your continued Word Play bug reports. Here's what's changed in 1.06:

Added more words to the Word Play dictionary

Added tutorial message if player clicks, but doesn't hold, on refresh button

Diamond Tiles are de-prioritised when typing on the keyboard

Re-balanced:

Buffed Modifier "Add 3 Bonus Points. Increases by 1 when you add a new tile to the Letter Bag". Now +2 on new tile.

Buffed "If two adjacent tiles share the same letter, both score double", to both score triple

Buffed I, E, and O, and Letter Pair challenges. Now +4, and lock at +40.

Buffed "Add 1 Bonus Points for each unused Upgrade" to be +5

Buffed "Increases by 2 whenever you re-roll the perks" Modifier, to +5

Certain Special Rounds (including Special Tiles Nullified) are less likely to appear

Fixed:

Our team is currently developing the hardcore co-op shooter \[BLACKOUT].

\[BLACKOUT] is a side-scrolling cooperative shooter where you become the last special forces unit and fight against infected threats in the Earth Federation.

To be honest, it's been a while since we launched the Steam page... but due to school and development, we haven't been able to engage much until now.

However, we've all graduated now, and we’re fully focused on development!!

From now on, we plan to communicate regularly and bring you a better game.
