Biorage - Ecliptica

Hey everyone!
If you've finished Biorage and you're still piecing together what the hell just happened—or if you're just lore-hungry—this post is for you. Let’s dive into the true story of Lucifer, the multiverse, and the collapse of everything.


The Multiverse Is Breaking Apart

The universe—no, the multiverse—is unstable. .Strange anomalies occur. Worlds collapse into themselves. And in the middle of all this? Lucifer.

But here’s the twist: Lucifer isn’t causing it.
He’s just walking. Experiencing the instability firsthand. And everyone else? They blame him—because there’s no one else to blame. Tempest, the time-dominating organization, labels him the source of chaos. The multiverse turns against him. But in reality, Tempest themselves caused the breakdown—their experiments, interventions, and control triggered this spiral of destruction.


Lucifer:

Lucifer isn't some all-powerful being. He's not a magician or an SCP. He's an observer. A being who has survived enough reality warping to keep moving—but even he isn’t immune.

In Level 12, one of the final zones, Lucifer screams in pain. He’s not above the destruction. He’s just able to keep walking while others get stuck, disintegrate, or vanish in time loops.

He experiences time differently. While millennia pass for the multiverse, only days pass for him. His slow, silent walk across collapsing universes becomes something truly terrifying to those watching. Imagine seeing someone move through time, from universe to universe, over thousands of years—and they don’t stop.


Tempest’s Role in the Collapse

Tempest once had control over Lucifer—they managed to teleport him three times during the chaos. But after that, even their control unraveled. The instability took over, and Lucifer was no longer transported by them, but ripped through layers of reality by the instability itself.

And it wasn’t just him.
Entire infinite multiverses began tearing apart. Universes dying. Stars vanishing. The very structure of existence unravelling. What we see in the final levels of Biorage is what’s left: a pocket. A dead husk of everything that once was.


The Ending:

By the end of the game, Lucifer is likely the last being alive. The last witness to what used to be everything. The multiverse is gone. He walks through the final pocket of existence.

And then, he activates the last detonation—a final bomb, erasing the remaining multiversal fragments.

A final wipe. Nothing is left afterward. Not even Lucifer.

It's impossible to fully comprehend the scale of this. The death of everything is like trying to imagine your own death—abstract, terrifying, unknowable.


Why Wasn't some of this in the Game?

Pretty much because you play as lucifer, from his POV. There is already a lot of dialogue as well. I felt like adding more in AND it being from a narrator's perspective instead of lucifer's would be....meh.

So instead, I’m giving you this post.

We are glad to welcome you and thank you in advance for your time! This time our message will be brief, but at the same time quite important.

As you may have noticed, next to the “End turn” button there are two more interesting options, the usefulness of which may not be clear right away. The “Block” button is pretty self-explanatory - instead of taking an attacking action (most often at the moment when he can't attack the enemy), the character stands in a defensive stance and gets resistance boosts. The block can be used in many different ways, and I'm sure you'll have no problem naming at least two uses of this option.

But what about the “Wait” button? At first glance, the character simply skips a turn and gets nothing in return. It may seem that this option is for giving in to your opponent, but that's not the case. A skillful player is able to use Waiting in a way that can turn the outcome of a battle around.

The thing is that this option doesn't skip a unit's turn, it puts it at the end of the round. You can move a unit by spending movement points, but you can't attack it by using Waiting. Then you can continue your unit's move at the end of the round without losing the OD you have saved.

If you use “Wait” with a unit with a high initiative level (an archer or wizard, for example), you can essentially move twice: at the end of the current turn and at the beginning of the current turn. Let's say it's your crossbowman's turn. He has a repulsion shot, but there is no one to use it on. You see that an enemy unit can move to a place of strength or stand next to your warrior or leader. You press “Wait” and at the end of the turn you push the enemy unit away from the place of strength. If the pushed unit was standing next to your warrior or leader with a free attack ability, it gets a hit in return.

And that's just one of many options. Don't be afraid to experiment, and you'll get some pretty spectacular victories.
Escape From Mandrillia: Local Asymmetric VR vs PC - Germanban
Hello there! It's been some intense weeks but I'm back with the second extra zone (out of three): Waste Disposal. Every game needs a section with pits of glowing green goo.
WASTE DISPOSAL
You can't just store your green toxic waste in high-pressure barrels forever; there's a point where you have to dump it back into Mother Nature. And that's what SPHYNX does at the Waste Disposal area. Don't breathe too hard!

The zone is divided in two sections, connected by a small bridge, the sewers and the control rooms.



The sewer section is dark and oppressive, with three parallel tunnels leading to the first possible yellow keycard location.



The control rooms add a bit of verticality to the mix. Two ramps lead to the main control room; just outside it there's the second yellow keycard spawnpoint and a drop back to the entrance. This drop can also be taken advantage of by the Robot, but just on the way down.



This update also brings a new breakable object: railings. They're the only thing preventing you from falling into the waste pits, so maybe you should refrain from destroying them.



Because there's now two extra zones, I've finally made the switch and set "random" as the default "extra zone" match setting. This also affects the solo/coop challenges, with some of them having extra zones disabled (Beginner, Infestation) and the Expert challenge having them all active at once.

DYNAMIC SPAWN REWORK
"Dynamic Spawn" is one setting that I've always felt never clicked to me. Until now, it gave you a "dynamic respawner", allowing you to freely move (starting on the position you died) and choose your spawn point. Usually combined with shorter spawn times, this setting usually ended up in Mandrillians endlessly respawning at the spot they died, in a sort of stunlock with the VR player. Because of some of the quirks of the new section I had to take a look at this setting again, and decided to convert it to the same system I use for the Mandrillian Bots when dynamic spawn is enabled: instead of freely moving around, you'll get a randomly assigned point near the Robot's location. This shoud shake things up a little bit and keep pressure on the Robot without it turning into a repetitive loop.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS
As the map increased its size with these last few updates, I've been wary of possible performance issues. Small hiccups can get exponentially worse as cameras get added, and in Escape from Mandrillia there can be a lot of active cameras at the same time (2 for the VR eyes, and an extra 1 per player). This update includes some performance improvements on the GPU side, so players with less powerful graphic cards will notice some better timings. Sadly, CPU usage stays the same for now, so older CPUs can still struggle at +120Hz with two PC players active. I will still try to iron that out in future updates!

COMING UP NEXT
Escape from mandrillia is now very close to being a finished product, with only a couple more things left to do before leaving Early Access! Starting of course with the third and final zone.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
The final zone, showing off the labs where SPHYNX experiments and tests their new inventions. While not as "unique" as the Warehouse or Waste Disposal zones, I have some neat gimmicks planned for this zone. And of course, and going with the theme, I have some shiny new toys all ready for it...

ALTERNATIVE GAMEMODES
After all zones are in place and every mechanic is locked in, I'd really like to try out some concepts for alternative gamemodes instead of the usual "get magenta keycards > open checkpoint gates > get yellow keycards to elevator > activate elevator". I won't go into much detail, but I have some stuff I'm really hyped to try out. If you wanna be part of this last stretch, don't hesitate to go into the experimental branch of the game and leave your feedback either here or at the game's official Discord server!
