Star Vortex - Zorg

Having finally finished Sector 3 I took some time to reflect on some of the suggestions I'd received. I was forced to ignore them while prioritizing content but now a couple of them jumped out. The turnaround time on them is a reflection of how important I feel they were.

Level Upgrades

When playing the game it quickly became confusing trying to decide what to do with equipment you didn't want. Either you sell it for credits, use it to upgrade the level of another item of the same type or pull a modifier from it. I'm hoping this change will help address that.

Items can now be upgraded for a cost in credits with no additional item requirements. This removes it from the decision-making process. Now when you get an item you don't want all you have to decide is whether you want it self for credits or keep a modifier from it.

Schematics

When playing your storage would quickly become a mess of items you were keeping for one modifier or another that you planned to use later. Then finding the modifier you wanted or even remembering why you kept an item to begin with was a bit of a nightmare. This is to try and solve that problem.

You can now purchase blank schematics from the Mothership. These schematics can be given a custom color/name and each holds up to 6 modifiers of any type including duplicates. Schematics are free to transfer modifiers onto and are not destroyed when modifiers are taken from them.

This should allow you to bring some order to the chaos and sort modifiers you're keeping in your storage. You can also find and purchase pre-loaded schematics on your travels or even gamble for them on the black market.

  • The cost of increasing equipment level doubled but destroying an item is no longer required.

  • Added schematics that can be used to freely store modifiers for later use.

  • Schematics can be given custom names and colors.

  • Blank schematics can now be purchased from the Mothership.

  • Random preloaded schematics can now be purchased from the Black Market or dropped by enemies.

Balance Changes

  • Weapon recharge rate is now reduced by -30% when boost invulnerability is active.

Quality of Life / Accessibility

  • Complete side missions now display above incomplete story missions in the mission panel.

  • Higher rarity sell all buttons now remain active if lower rarity items are in your cargo.

  • Updated Polish translations.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed missing encounter rewards at Verdara in Sector 3.

  • Verdiction leaves no longer grant experience in Sector 3.

  • Left modifier selection no longer resets when changing the right modifier in Assembler.

  • Unscanned items are now dimmed when modifying equipment.

  • Basilisk now spawns stretched out instead of curled up in a ball.

  • Friendly ships in Warzone encounters now display sensor arrows off-screen.

  • Ship designer now only zooms with the mouse wheel when your cursor is over the main design area.

Avorion - Hans without flamethrower
Beta Branch Note: These changes are currently available on the beta branch. The beta branch is for testing experimental changes and for finding and fixing errors.

This is how you get access to the beta branch (USE AT YOUR OWN RISK):

Right-Click on Avorion in your Steam list, Properties -> Betas -> Select branch 'Beta Branch - Newest Changes & Experimental Features'.

Gameplay
  • The co-pilot now automatically becomes the new pilot if the former pilot leaves the ship
  • Wormhole Generator does not float away anymore if a ship collides with it or it is shot
  • Escort AI
    • Escorting ships no longer consider collisions as intentional attack
    • Escorting ships no longer attack allied ships if they are damaged by them (same behavior as when the escorted ship is damaged)
    • Escorting ships no longer fire at enemies that have stopped attacking them for at least 15 seconds (and have not attacked the escorted ship before)
  • Disabled boarding of player or alliance ships if in a neutral zone or if player-to-player damage is disabled
  • Black Market DLC: trader missions no longer start with a forced dialog; instead the player is hailed and can accept or decline
  • The pause menu can now be accessed while playing the tutorial

UI
  • Added a continue button to the main menu
    • Note: This will restart the last played session in the same configuration.
    • This means, if you were hosting a local galaxy it will start the galaxy in hosting mode and others can connect to your server.
    • If you were playing on a remote server, it will try to connect to the remote server. Does not work if the server has been restarted.
    • The server's password is remembered. This way you only need to enter the password once.
  • Improved Saved Designs Filtering
    • Filter "Just Fighters" now no longer includes turret designs
    • Added new filter "Just Turrets" that includes only turret designs
  • Windows using a Saved Designs Selection now use an appropriate default filter
  • Strategy mode: available rift missions are now shown in mission overview
  • Fighter Factory now selects another turret of the same category (if possible) and keeps the previous point assignment after building a fighter
  • Removed ship menu for fighters as it did not contain accurate or helpful information

Modding
  • Fixed an issue where the client could get stuck in loading screen for single player instances and locally hosted multiplayer
  • Improved how servers try to update workshop mods on server start
  • Clients now try to actively update mods when connecting to a server with newer mod versions if the automatic update through Steam has not happened yet
  • Added more information to the info box shown after connection errors related to mod configuration

Scripting API
  • Made UIBlockDisplayer's clear method public
  • Added new callback to UISelection that is called when sorting is finished
    • overload member "onEntriesSortedFunction" to receive the callback

Multiplayer
  • Some types of connection errors will now be detected faster

Bugfixes
  • [UBR] Fixed a crash when trying to upload a turret to Steam workshop
  • [UBR] Fixed an issue where Black Market missions could include sectors from the other side of the barrier
  • [UBR] Fixed an issue where serveral story missions could incorrectly include sectors from inside the barrier
  • [UBR] Fixed an issue where delivery missions would select target sectors on the other side of the barrier
  • [UBR] Fixed an issue where accepting a rift mission near the barrier would end the "Crossing the barrier" mission
  • [UBR] Fixed an issue where headhunters could appear during rift missions
  • [UBR] Fixed an issue where a ghost block would remain in the sector after building a new ship
  • [UBR] Fixed an issue where the tutorial mission "Ships, Strategies & Captains" could get stuck after deleting Lady Adventurous during the mission
  • [UBR] Fixed an issue where a required container would not spawn in the "Hackathon" mission if the player had a docked container

Katana Punk Playtest - BOON
Hello, I did something crazy, I changed fundamental rules of the game and now you will notice you can play more cards each turn.


The theme of this Patch is:

WHERE ARE MY FREAKING MANA CARDS!!! / TOO MANY MANA CARDS!!!


Have you been affected by only having too many or too little mana card! Well don't you worry because the following changes have been made Just for you!


You now start with the passive: Overclock in every run.

Overclock
Once per turn, you may play one card without paying its mana cost, then Overclock it for the rest of the run.
Overclocking the same card twice disables that card for X number of combats.

Why This Change?

  • I really like the safety net it provides in early fights to protect you from getting mana-screwed, but you can also use Overclock aggressively in fights you went out of your way to make harder.
  • Greedier options make the game more interesting. Do you Overclock early to stabilize or save it for a boss fight?
  • Being greedy with resources is just fun. When you decide to use it is on you.

Starting Deck Changes

Grow has a new keyword:

Grow: Give a random red card in your hand +30 Attack.
+You may exile this card instead of playing it to gain 1 mana.

Grow often felt clunky when you didn’t have red cards in hand. That would be fine if you drafted it, but considering that it's in your starting deck, it was just too punishing for a decision I made for you.



New Keyword: Cycling.

Cycling added to 4 of the 8 mana cards in your starting deck.

Cycling: Instead of playing this card, you may pay 1 mana, discard this card to draw 2 non-mana cards.
  • This helps when you only draw mana cards, letting you dig for armor or damage instead.



    Removed 2 armor cards from your base deck.
    Added 2 Bento Box cards to your starting deck.

    Bento Box
    Gain 15 Armor or 3 Eat Tofu.

    Eat Tofu (3 uses): Instead of playing this card, you may discard it to draw 3 cards. Permanently remove 1 Eat Tofu from this card each time.

    Modifying your cards mid-run is one of Katana Punk’s best features. Like I said the theme here is to play as greedy as you want. Do you want to consume the Bento Box in a hard fight to improve 2 mana cards, or a mid-boss to get better rewards.


    Pet Rework

    Busy Bee
    Old: Increase your crit chance by 15% after doing damage.
    New: After playing a yellow or pink card, your next damage will crit.



    New Event: Pho Shop

    Spend 3 yen to buy a bowl of pho, granting a good random keyword to a random card.

    You can also steal it if you don’t have money but that might backfire.



    - Replaced the Wheel of Keywords with events that instantly upgrade random cards with keywords.
    The wheel animation was too long, this is my attempt to speed up these two events.




    Keyword Reworks

    After many playthroughs, I found some keywords weren't pulling their weight. Here are major changes:

    Dress to Kill → Lipstick
    Old: If you have 30 Glass Attack, play this card twice.
    New: Gain Armor equal to this card’s Attack.

    Dress to Kill felt too conditional and rarely satisfying. Lipstick is op af, it's going to be much more expensive but satisfying if you can get it.

    Midas Touch
    Old: When this card kills: Gain 1 yen for each pet you own.
    New: When this card kills: Gain X yen. (X = number of Midas Touch stacks on this card)

    Now simpler and more scalable. Base Midas starts with 2 stacks, so it’s easier to start farming.

    Crit Curse
    Old: Crit but deal 50% damage.
    New: Crit but deal 75% damage.

    Crit Curse is an enabler for cards that benefit from crit triggers. The old version felt like there was no reason to get it in non-crit builds. This change lets you maintain synergy while still being ok in non-crit builds.


    Vampire Fangs
    Old: When this card kills an enemy, gain 15 health. Exile after use.
    New: When this card kills an enemy, gain 30 health. (No longer exiles on kill)



    New Card: Salmon Hosomaki

    At the start of each turn, add 1 mana.
    Cost: 4
    This card has 2 Finality.

    Finality: You may play this card without paying its mana cost. If you do, remove 1 Finality. If no Finality remains, permanently remove the card.

    Enemy Balance Update

    All enemies have been rebalanced.
    They have more health and deal more damage to compensate for Overclock being available from the start.

    Quality of Life Improvements

    • Drafted mana cards now appear at the bottom of your deck when viewing cards.
    • If you try to play a pet and have no open slots, it now replaces your oldest pet.


    Bug Fixes

    • Crit animation now correctly turns off at the end of your turn.
    Too many to count and list here, sorry Bug Fix Fans.
