Thanks to all the new players so far in Next Fest. This is the first time I've had a game in Next Fest and so far it's been great! I've had a chance to chat with some of you so far, and looking forward to seeing how things go going into the weekend.

I wanted to take some time to do a quick update to the demo now that some more players have come through and checked it out.

DIFFICULTY CHANGES

So far I'm keeping the changes to the game difficulty to a minimum, but always looking for feedback from all players. Whether you're a precision platformer pro or new to this game, maybe the cozy graphics pulled you in. I'd love to hear from anyone that has feedback for the game! Discord, Reddit or Steam Communities are all great places to get in touch.

That being said there are two small tweaks in this build to help with some difficulty or potentially more edge cases that can feel a bit unfair outside of the design of the game.

Here's an outline of the changes made in this area:

  • Level 1-5 - Moved the early chokepoint platforms ever so slightly apart for a bit more maneuverability

  • Level 1-5 - Lowed the first set of fuel pickups closer to the platform making the launch a bit easier to hit, the fall from higher up in the level is already punishing enough for such an early level

  • Fuel Pickups - Increased the hitbox size on the fuel pickups so it covers the whole model, this will reduce the chances of the game considering it a near miss when the player has actually passed through the pickup and should be awarded a refuel

VISUAL UPDATES

Some small visual tweaks have been made to clean up the visuals a tiny bit for readability, cleaner interactions, and some nice to haves I had lying around.

Updates Included:

  • Fixed an issue with lighting that was reducing a bit of the character highlighting, now it's easier to see sheep on the move (especially in multiplayer)

  • Fixed issue with leaf bursts when passing by trees, they now animate correctly

  • Fixed smoke rings from jetpacks to be more ring shaped, which leads to a more pleasing animation and a bit cleaner effect on the playfield

  • Fixed an issue with shadows on distant objects sometimes flickering depending on aspect ratio

UNDOCUMENTED FEATURE

A (beta, use at your own risk!) undocumented feature has been enabled in gameplay just to test out if you're interested.

Gamepad Only (for now while testing) - In single player levels, after you've completed a level and are sitting at the recap / summary screen if you hold "right bumper" and press "left bumper" while continuing to hold the right bumper you will see a replay of your previous attempt.

You can't currently do anything with the replay but I may use this for ghost saving / sharing, replay sharing, or some other feature as I play around with it (potentially post release).

We would like to inform you about the issue identified in Version 1.79.1 and the UI Improvement Update, both updated June 12th.

[Known Issue]
- An issue where, even when Wild Hunt Heathcliff has met the conditions to activate Empowered Skill 3 with his Defense Skill, the Defense Skill would not activate due to certain issues
- An issue where, when choosing an enemy to Clash with using a Clashable Defense Skill, if the enemy becomes Staggered before the Clashable Defense Skill can activate, the Clashable Defense Skill would activate

We have identified that this issue was caused by partial adjustments made in the Combat Systems logic in the process of making UI improvements to the Clash Forecast function.

Resolving this issue requires the game's code to be changed, and for the UI improvement work to be rolled back, which means that it cannot be resolved via a Hotfix.

This needs to be resolved via a Client Update next week. As for the UI Improvements that were updated this week, we will take more time to review how it affects the current system, re-organize our schedule, and inform you via an future Scheduled Update notice.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
